Modo Sakic

Recommended Posts

I play competitive ball hockey on smooth cement and we use rock hard plastic balls. I have been using a Modo curve for this season and I do like it however it wears a little too much at the toe, so I assume 5.5 would be a better fit and one thing is that I have problems raising my slappers, in warm up I usally put it into the goalies chest and in games all my shots are low like stick side and pads, I dont view this as a problem however I would like to be able to snipe the top corners, when I shoot with the modo I have a high high follow through but its still not lifting as much. I was just wondeirng if this is a big switch from modo to sakic, I have heard good things about both and since sakic is a moderate as opposed to slight this will give me more curve and possibly raise it more and I also like the fact that its curved more towards the toe then a heel curve which means a better toe drag. On breakways I usally finish by putting the ball in with the classic one side then put it in backhand on the other side I was wondering will a sakic have a horrible backhand control because its more curved on front hand so will it be horrible or just a little worse then the modo on the backhand?

Thanks

Well the Modano curve tends to keep shots low. A Higher follow through will help. I did make a Modano- Sakic change as well, although it takes some getting used to, it does pick the shot up more, and stickhandling with it is great. (toe drags took alittle getting used to though).

If you think the Modano to Sakic is too big of a switch you can go to an Iginla instead. It is not as big and would probably do what you want.

Just been outside shooting and the Modo is just bruttle, my follow through was high like I wanted to lift it way above the net and the shot is still pretty low, I taped the stick up and looked at the wear, its horrible all concentrated at the toe and close to 0 wear at the middle and heel so I am thinking a 5.5 will help due to its lie. In my pass expiernce iam thinking dept of curve will raise a shot beacaue i had a jagr curve which was heel: deep and every shot went over the net and in games this was just insane I couldnt manage a good shot on net at all, so right now I am looking for a good curve that suites me its been flightless with modo and over the net with jagr so I think I might give sakic a try.

They'll be alot of loft on the Sakic. You may like it, but I think the Iggy would be a more natural transition. You may want to look at the Recchi, Mogilny, Lindros and Messier as well.

So is loft or dept the determining factor for height of shot? I also wanted to kno if cruves can help improve ur shot cuz iam hoping for a better wrist shot and snap. I kno its in the technique but having a blade that works with me would be nice.

Im guessing loft is face angle, cause if thats the case then yeah, a blade like a Lidstrom(with a very open face angle) with bring your shots higher than a Modo(slightly open face angle) but follow through is still a factor.

So I made the switch and my shots are still mediocre as I havent gotten use to it yet however the lie is perfect now. Does anyone have any tips to using the sakic curve like rolling the wrist over and under when taking a shot etc....

Most of the people I see using the Sakic around here just cup the puck/ball and fling it. Poor form but they seem to get the best results that way.

Gopher the Iggy or Mission Hull, I found the Sakic to be too open and the modo to be too small of a curve, the Iggy/Hull is perfect for me. It all comes down to a pp and how you play.

Chadd, that is very interesting could you describe in detail how a cupped wrist shot would be like? I am trying to develop a better wrist shot.

Thanks

I had the same problem last year and I made change from a modano to a lindros and i havent looked back, if you want to be able to get the puck/ball higher, more loft would help with that. but if the lindros is too high of a lie. you could try an iggy or a nash. all three helped me to get the puck a little bit higher.
