Purchase Hockey Skates Online?

Recommended Posts

If you get shopped, just tell the uniformed customer that the skate thats 2 sizes too big actually fits and encourage that they order the size 9 when they really need the size 7 online.

Good on you JR!

BTW, $45 is cheap. You should have said $1 per rivet removed, $1 per rivet installed. :-)

Hey, I was just on e-puck. They sell the Vector 6.0 for $179.99 and 7.95 for shipping. $188 total price. I sell it for $199.99, $11 more. So, for that $11 you would get from me, a perfect, correct first sharpening, hot bake, lifetime adjustments and free blade tightening, straightening, and discounts on future repairs. Also,I never charge for an eyelet, rivet, or screwwrepair or replacement if you bought skates here. And if you wanted to convert to in-line, I'd do that for half price.

Don't forget a perfect fit.

I actually thought about that, that would be sweet. I'd love to see the look on their face after they get on the ice.

Fortunately for me, I'm the best skate sharpener in the area and they have to come back to me for sharpening. They don't think I don't notice that they have new skates and that I remember that they didn't buy them from me. Just like JR, when they come back for a repair or service, FULL price! And no priority service.

BTW, I love it when they get one of those factory seconds skates, or the ones with the mismounted holders that seem to end up at the internet sites.

Thanks guys for all the info. Jimmy, your shop anywhere near MPLS? I need to find a LHS like your place.

I guess I get the best of both worlds. I purchased my last pair of skates online because they were a pro stock closeout and I saved like 200.00. Since I saved so much I didn't mind spending another 50.00 to get them fitted and sharpened at my LHS. Now I do spend a lot of cash in my LHS, I will purchase online as well but not to just save 10 bucks. Why buy something for 50.00 online, wait for it and pay shipping when you can have it right away for 60.00 from your LHS? Doesn't make sense to me.

Anyway I bought my skates online, and called my LHS to see what the heating and sharpening would cost and the guy told me 30 for the heating and 15 for the sharpening. I still saved 150.00 on the skates so who cares. I went down and when he realized that it was me, he did the heating for 15 and sharpened them for free. When stores repay loyalty like that, they earn more loyalty.

I'm temped to buy a shaft online...

In store is very expensive. Very.

I bought my Z-Air skates from Just hockey for more than $100CAD more than online... but the guy there was just way too nice, talked to me a lot and made me feel as though I was a friend more than a customer.

But when it comes to shafts... I can get tha Typhoon online for so much cheaper than at LHS... :(

I do this too to good customers. They aren't the ones sneaking around having me size them, and wasting my time. When a customer is honest, and a good repeat and loyal customer, I do molding at reduced prices or even free for them.
