Believe me, A shorter stick is always better than a longer stick...

Thats just for you. I prefer a longer stick, even though I'm a forward.

oh, and tell that to don cherry, i was watching coaches corner from the first round of the playoffs, and he was talking about st.louis and how he grew up using a longer stick... and how kids should use longer sticks!!! long sticks are the way to go... if you can handle a puck with a long stick, you can handle a puck with anything!

Everyone have their point of view on that one and I don't share Don Chery's one. The Russians are the best puckhandler on earth and they all use shorts sticks.

Don't categorize people like that. Russians train for certain things where as the North Americans originally didn't. You're seeing the gap closing between pure skill now and thats because they are sharing there secrets. Short sticks don't make people better stickhandlers. Going out, getting a length you feel comfortable with and practicing your ass of makes you a better stickhandler. For the record I use a stick just below my adams apple and I play defense. I got it from Kaberle :), before that I used sticks that were upto 6" longer.

Doesn't Zherdev use a really long stick as well?

yah I agree with the long stick variety. I can stickhandle fine with the long stick, and once you get used to it, it's annoying switching back to a shorter stick, since you keep missing the puck as it's too far away. Did that make any sense at all?

does anyone know how long of a stick kovalchuk uses? the avatar of SB39 makes kovalchuk stick seem long...like he uses a 4.5 lie or something...

Nash also uses a long stick, his curves just have a lower lie.

I actually remember Cherry talking specifically about this kid's blade lie on HNIC. He said it was more like a 6-7 lie.

Mine's like collarbone on skates, I play D but I like to move the puck around a lot, but I'm not sure why exactly I have a short stick. I'm switching to forward after this year though, because I get pushed around by bigger forwards too much, even with leg strength/core strength..

You guys should see a pic of Martin St. Pierre, Guelph in the O last year, Bakersfield in the ECHL this year I believe, his stick is absolutely INSANELY long..like 5, 6 inches taller than him.

Edit: My bad, he plays for Greenville
