Fletch

Donnie Darko

I finally watched this last night. Holy friggin' crap it's a trip...lol.

The whole film is very strong, especially the script and acting. It's kind of complicated though....I was checking out some message boards on it to answer some questions I had. I highly recommend it though.

Oh, and the score is AMAZING. I gotta go out and get the CD.

Also - The house they use for Donnie's house is about 10 minutes from my apartment in Long Beach, CA. I drove by it the other day and took a couple pics of it with my cell phone.

- The house belonging to Patrick Swayze's character in the film is right down the street from Donnie's house and I got a pic of that one too :)

- The Ferris Bueller house is also on the same street. It looks a lot smaller in person than it does in the film.... <_<

And on a funny side note: A few years ago, I went to the Whisky in Hollywood to watch my friend's band play. After their set, he says to me "Hey, my friend Jake is having a party at his house. Do you want to go?" I said sure, and headed over there with him. We get there and it's a small home in Hollywood, right off the Sunset Strip. We're hanging out and as we walk into the house, he sees "Jake" and says hi. He introduces me to him, and I shake his hand, say "what's up?" etc. We were talking for a few minutes and then headed off to go talk to some girls that my buddy knew. I ended up taking off a bit later, but the next day I was talking to my friend and he said "Did you recognize Jake? I never see him anymore because he's always on auditions and stuff."

I then realized that "Jake" was Jake Gyllenhaal. Donnie Darko himself :)

I'm not a huge fan of the movie myself. All the 'tards at my school who think they are really intellectual and deep went apeshit over this movie. There was a span of about two weeks this fall when someone would bring this movie up in at least one class, everyday. So when I watched it, I of course didn't like it. Then again, I don't think I would have liked it, regardless of how good or bad it is.

And I also watched it at 6 in the morning, hungover.

I liked the movie quite a bit actually. This type of movie is right up my alley. The acting and storyline were both really good and the ending leaves a very wierd feeling. The music was also quite good. "Mad World" by Gary Jules is fabulous.

Yeah, that song is awesome. It fit the ending so well.....it's pretty sad watching everyone's emotions as you-know-who is being taken out of the house and being put into the you-know-what.

which version are you talking about? I haven't watched the "new" version yet but I heard its not quite as good as the "original" version. The directors commentary on the original version is classic too.

It was the Director's Cut. I want to see the original version now because I have also heard from other people that it is better.

I think Best Buy has the original in part of a 2-or-3-for pack with some decent movies. If it's alone, it's probably under $10.

Granted having not watched the new version I would imagine it isn't too much different from the original with the deleted scenes added.

Yeah, but I hear the scenes they added take away from the pacing of the original.

My friend emailed me tonight and said "I hated the original version but the Director's Cut won me over."

So, to each their own I suppose. :)

Great great movie. I wish more studios were ballsy enough to let young directors with creative aspirations make cool films. I'm so sick to death of hollywood and the cookie cutter garbage they pump out week after week and year after year.

The problem is the masses of people who go to the car chase and big explosion movies.

I rented Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind last weekend, started off with a punch, I was totally messed up but after about an hour I really got into it, especially when they were running away from the erasers and in the end they meet again, totally amazing.
