Rink rats chunking

Recommended Posts

Got about the same problem with front and rear RR wheels.

Surface : wood floor

My weight : 190

If you are over 170-180 and if u skate on "demanding" surface, you should consider changing your front and rear wheel for a harder RR model.

This, I think, is the best compromize betweeen grip and "no chunk" policy.

Dont use them on a wood floor!!!!!BAD BAD BAD

thats why they chunk, they are intended for sportcourt type surfaces....

It's not like we have the choice of floors....

In Belgium, we only have smooth painted concrete and wood floors.

Most players have never seen a sportcourt in their live...

Nevertheless, RR are still quite solid in terms of longevity and grip.

Just have to choose the right durometer= 78A instead of the 76A's for the players over 170.

When I played ona wood floor a few seasons back, Dynastys seemed to work great for me (over my Millenniums, and my Hypers). I havent tried my RR Horents on a wood floor yet, and After reading the last few posts in this topic I probbly wont. Factory also makes some nice stuff. If you are looking for wheels you might be able to find Last years Dynastys for cheap.

I mainly used single pour wheels on wood floors. I found formula Gs worked real well. Wood + Roll on was the surface.

Wood floors generally have so much grip, that you do not need the more expensive ultra grippy wheels to hold the floor. RR Hornets, can be torn up on wood floors, as with most of the softer "grippy' compounds from many manufacturers, but will last for months on dedicated sport floors like Sport Court or Ice Court, or Spider Court..and others you would see in Europe but not here.

Mid durometers,76 - 80 usually work well, in Formula "g's", "Mr Stickies", Labeda grippers(original white..soft and mediums not X-Soft) Also remember that RR Hornets 76/62 are not the same as regular 76A durometer wheels, as they give you a larger footprint and a lot more grip.

Well here is the exact "cocktail" I use :

Weight : 190

Surfaces : from painted concrete to wood floor

RR Hornet 78 for front and back wheel ... gives me the durability

RR Hotshot 76 for middle wheels ... gives me the grip

Hey Guys,

My direct line is 401 946 4400 ext 3050 at Rink Rat World Head quarters. Call me any time.

Now on to the wood floors. It has been my experiance that our World Cup wheel probably works best on the wood surface and lasts a pretty good amount of time. A couple of teams in Australia play on nothing but wood and I haven't heard of any problems with those wheels...Wood is very tough on all wheels so if our Hornet wheels chunked on the wood floor try the World Cup wheel that just might solve your problem. In any event call me on Monday or drop me a quick email at mhunt@mearthane.com and lets see if we can help you with your wheels...

Like I have said before I'm always here when the talk is good or if the talk is not so good to answer your questions, I always try to do it in a timely fashion but with my travel it is sometimes hard to get right away...But I will always answer your question on the open forum and not behind my PM..

Thanks guys,

Michael Hunt

We have been using RR wheels for about 2 years, and even when they begin to crack...for us about 3 months, they seem to still mantain their grip until they finally begin to chunk out...maybe after 4 months.
