Are Sticks Painted with Lead-Based Paints?

Recommended Posts

This is a very serious topic. Some of us have young children, I have a 15-month-old. He loves to hold my sticks, especially in the car seat on the way to games. Being a typical 15-month-old he loves to teethe on anything and everything, including my sticks. I always pull the stick out of his mouth and do not allow him to teethe on them, but every once and a while he still swipes a quick suck and last week he actually scraped a small piece of paint off my SL. Now I will not let him hold my sticks at all.

My question is: Does Easton use lead-based paints on their sticks? If so, it would be imperative for parents to know so they can make sure to keep ALL painted sticks completely away from young children.

Lead-based paints have been off the market for some time now. They are still available for certain markets, but most industrial coastings are now either water-based or (poly)urathane. Still not something that children should ingest. There's absolutely no chance that the paint on an Easton stick is lead-based.

I'm in the same boat with my baby. He loves hockey sticks, and even though he has never teethed on one, I keep a close eye on him when he's got a stick. Mostly because he has a nasty habit of knocking lamps over and terrorizing the dog with them!

I can almost guarentee thats its not, they havent used lead paint for stuff in a long time. Even if its not eating paint in general isnt really good for you...I dont think theres been lead in paint or gas for that matter since sometime in the 70's.

Ha, my little guy chases the cats too. It's so funny. And the wife gets mad but I tell her, hey it's winter. He can't go outside because he is too little.

I really, really hope you guys are right. My little guy has been very fatigued the last couple of days and I just get scared. The pediatrican said its a viral infection. I looked up lead poisoning and one of the symptoms is fatigue and I was like holy cow, last week he could have ingested a small piece of paint when his tooth scraped my stick.

If one of the Mods could confirm this with Ryan or someone that would really put me at ease. And regardless, I am not going to let him hold my sticks anymore.

I would only be concerned about lead based paint if the stick were made in China or India. These countries still use lead based paint. Hovever, since lead-based paint is illegal in the Americas, I'm sure stick manufacturers take great pains to use non-toxic in their products. A quick call to the manufacturer would quell your fears. I would be more concerned about your child chewing on a composite stick. Carbon fiber is very sharp, and if ingested could damage their digestive system. It is also an irritant much like fiberglas. If a sliver is able to get under your skin, it will start to itch and then it will get very inflamed. If your stick starts to fray, a quick coating of epoxy will prevent slivers from rubbing on you.

I would also be worried about holding the sticks while in a car seat... Accidents can happen, sticks wont help, only hurt

Don't want to try and tell you how to raise your kids, but wouldn't little plastic knee hockey sticks be better because of the less paint and the fact they won't have as long a reach with the stick :D .

The synergy pacifier... the first one piece composite pacifier. The reacive traits of having a one piece composite pacifier give it unparalled responce and performance. :P
