Issues with repainting Itech cage?

Recommended Posts

I'm wondering if I'm going to get crap from refs or not be allowed to play because of repainting my cage. It's a couple years old, it was left in a moist bag for a while and it's all rusty in the intersections of the cage, so I want to repaint it. If I repaint it and the little CSA sticker peels off like it's obviously going to, is there any chance they could not let me play because of it? I've played in the same roller hockey league for 4 years without any stickers or ear guards on my old helmet, so they're pretty good about stuff like this. I'm nervous and just need som reassurement

If they didnt do anything when you didn't have the earpieces and the stickers on i say go for it.Not having the earpieces is worst than repainting your cage.

Just be careful, you don't want paint chips flaking off and getting in your eyes. Make sure you sand it down pretty well.

What I'm gonna do is use this stuff we have called "Aircraft Paint Stripper", it works like a hot darn. Used it on some valve covers last year, you spray it on, let it sit for 30 minutes, and the paint all peels and bubbles off

If your cage has rusted, the integrity of the steel could be affected. You might be better off buying a new cage... but if you can sand all the rust off and you don't have to take off much metal, then you could try it... and make sure your paint doesn't chip off.

Where do you get this Aircraft Paint Stripper at? I want to get some for my hockey stick.

Ogie is right, it's only for metal (specifically steel) and will do quite a number on wood, etc. Last time I used it I sprayed the parts on top of a piece of cardboard and the cardboard started to bubble and fizz and look all sickly.
