In Joe's defense, Lindros is a machine and has always beena very good fighter.

That was a case of head moving down with fist coming up. Heck, noone takes every battle. But I've seen Joe destroy guys too.

Lindros, the single biggest reason why Colorado has been a top team for the last decade. The best thing that happened to Quebec/Colorado was Lindros NOT playing for them.

I never said he didn't get him good but it was a decent fight until Joe got off balance and Lindros caught him with the one good punch that did the damage.

I haven't whined about Lindros, merely stated a fact. Lindros refusing to play in Quebec is what put that team over the edge from competing to dominating.

I don't play the what-if game. It is a fact that Philly gave up way too much for Lindros. Not to mention that Forsberg developed into the better player of the two.

But we do know how Philly and NYR has done with Lindros and how Colorado has done without him. Lindros is very good but he has become a shell of his former promise.

Ponty,

The difference between Bonds andLindros is that Lindros has stopped being a momma's boy since leaving philly. Bonds is just a steroid taking superstar who can't handle the limelight.

To be honest that whole fight is a blur to me, I was just stating that Lindros was a beast. I remember when he first came to Philly they had to discourage him from fighting.

There's too many variables with te Lindros/ Foppa argument. If he stayed in Colorado/Quebec he may have a good head on him and be a machine, where Foppa could've been eaten alive in their hard hitting style. Not saying this is what would've happened, just that its a difficult thing to argue. Especially since Lindros is playing still and Foppa may not be. Overall, I don't see how anyone can argue that Philly won the deal, but I can see people arguing that they were a better team with Lindros than with the other guys on their roster.

I remember when Clarke started blasting Shawn Antoski for not fighting and sticking up for the other guys on the roster. Antoski's response was basically; "Nobody has my back out there, why should i have theirs?" The early Lindros years had some major chemistry problems.

Definately, I just remember him fighting ALOT when he first came there and they basically told him to stop. I think he either hurt or had a scare of hurting his hand and that was all they needed to scare the hell out of them. Drop half a roster on a kid only to lose him fighting some Bum.

Lindros was always a "shell" of his former promise....he never came through in the clutch, and he was actually never the "tough guy" Philly tried to make him into...regardless of how he made out in one or two fights....He became more percieved as a cheap shotter, using his size to hit people who were not expecting it. Hence the retaliation efforts to clock him whenever possible.

This happened in large part because his role did not suit his real talents in Philly and he had to "step up" physically when that was not his primary instinct. To do so he had to "choose his spots". Actually early (pre NHL) I believe Lindros was more of a Mario Lemieux type player, than the big rugged tough guy he was portrayed as.

I have always felt that had Lindros stayed in the Quebec/Colorado system, they would have used his skills differently from Philly, and he might just have reached his potential. In fact Lindros's case is to me one of the classic situations where players who have been developed in one farm system, are then shipped out to a different system due to the draft, and can become "fish out of water" because they end up playing a role completely different from the one they grew up with.

Teams realized all they had to do was send a fourth liner to antagonize him and he would either fight or take a dumb penalty. He was probably the worst guy in the league for using his stick for quite a while. I recall him hurting a lot of guys with his stick.

Since going to New York Lindros has pretty much been a good soldier. Even when they had him on the fourth line, he was still skating harder than anyone on the first two lines. A good way to show how far Lindros has come is the hit Doig laid on him last year. He took it, got up, and went after him. Any other "star" probably would have just stayed down and waited for a whistle.

+ I hated the guy, and thought he was just a whiney girl. But then I saw him actually wanting to play and contribute in NY since I get stuck watching so many rags games a year. If I were them I'd much rather be paying Lindros than Holik.
