top guitarists

the fact that hendrix played a right guitar upside down jus makes it all sound amazing. if u ever watch ne of his videos ull really see how good he is.

despite playing most of his guitars upside down, they were all strung left handed (ie. normal). still one of my favs though. same for ben weinman of dillinger escape plan. omar lopez of mars volta is quickly climing for me. he may be sloppy, but his rhythms are getting more and more complicated. francis the mute is very very good.

I'll probably get slammed for this one, but I don't like Hendrix. I think what made him a guitar god was the fact that he died so early in his career...

IMO Hendrix was to guitar what Bobby Orr was to hockey. In his time he was very innovative and raised the bar for the next generation of players coming behind him.

Back in the late 60's Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Pete Townshend and Alvin Lee were the sht and they all said that Hendrix floored them.

I'll admit that I don't like alot of his stuff that they play on the radio but his live albums make the hair stand up on my arms.

That guy could PLAY. Check out Villanova Junction on the Woodstock album.

Breathtaking.

I really like Travis Meeks of Days of the New. He is an ass hole, but makes some great music. You have to listen to all three Days of the New CD's to get his whole range of music.

my picks:

1 - B.B. King - He makes the guitar talk, doesn't have to be fancy.

2 - Tim Reynolds - I've only heard him on the disc with Dave Matthews, and that was pretty cool.

3 - Paul McCartney - As a guitarist in probably the most influential, succesful band ever, and a great song writer... c'mon.

and throw Pat Metheny in there for some jazz influence.

McCartney played bass........ George Harrison played guitar.

Hendrix, Vai, Vaughn, Johnson, Clapton, Dimebag, Satriani, Malmsteen, the guy from Iron Maiden, the list goes on..... Theyre all amazing guitar players.

Dang it, you're right - my bad! (drummers don't pay attention to what kind of guitar it is!)

Too many to count.

I was listening to a song done by Vai and Malmsteen, some of the sickest guitar ive ever heard. Also I heard "Somewhere over the rainbow", its basically an instrumental of the Wizard of Oz song, done by Steve Vai, incredible. Just the sheer skill of steve vai is amazing, considering he was tought to play by SRV so that he could do the movie Crossroads.

You can definetly tell how old people are in this thread :D

Amazing how ages vary...

I have a few of my own, guys that I grew up listening to. Sure, there are the Hendrix, Clapton's, Page's, Vai's, Satriani's, EVH (his son is a goalie). However, I have found few that can rip you up with an ass kicking solo and then melt your heart down to nothing with a soft, melodic solo than Neal Schon from Journey and Steve Lukather from TOTO. I've been a fan of both for more than 25 years and the new sounds that they come up with are nothing short of incredible.

Neal's new stuff with Soul SirkUS kicks ass and TOTO, though not so popular in the U.S., is finding incredible success in Europe, Asia and South America.

Also, some of my other personal favorites are Dave Amato (now with REO Speedwagon; previously Ted Nugent and many others), Vivian Campbell and Phil Colleen (Def Leppard), and Rik Emmett (formerly of Triumph).

Since getting involved in the music industry, many of these guys remind me of the hockey players I have worked with for so many years. Just plain old great guys.
