  1. I'm a guy that needs his forefoot laced but not tight and conpensates with the ankle so the skate doesn't flop from side to side. I can't tell you how many times it made me feel like my knees were locked.
  2. im sure the forward stance helps with lace bite too as the laces go forward and arnt holding and biting you back.
  3. im using missions now. first skate in a while i used that is keeping its stiffness well but im 250lbs and its a higher end AC2 model that i splurged on to make sure it doesnt go soft too soon. so far so good. while i was looking i looked at alkali due to Justins presence here and the great reviews ive seen and at the time they didnt fit my foot as well as the missions and i didnt want to put the cash down and hope a bake fixed everything. though ill say when i inquired justin offered to show me how the skate felt on my foot after a bake, the problem is that i would of had to fly from NY to CA :P . But the newest line looks to have a huge improvement to it from a technical standpoint and if i was looking for skates today i would get my ass to a place and try the new line out. im really interested in the stance as i tie the top laces tight and even with the mission hi-lo i feel my legs are very straight and at times there is a feeling that my knees are locked by the straight up skate and stance. i also like the straight 80s but the recessed wheel should do a lot to keep the agility up unlike the reeboks and ccms. but hopefully for my wallets sake i wont need to look any time soon.
  4. No i wouldnt do that. A proper boot will fit comfortable when not baked. Baking is to get it to mold to you foot shape better but if it's too small it's too small, too big same thing.if it's something like everything is perfect but one spot keeps getting a hot spot while skating there are thing like boot punches for that when trying the skate on I would make your laces are almost all the way loose and you can get your foot in easily and to tie them and give it a stand and see where your foot is and how it feels not just sitting. try on as many as you can. I personally need a wider higher volume boot as I have a boxy chunk of a foot. Bauer vapors are way to small for me. And the reeboks I had broke down too fast and didn't have enough volume. Remember there are wide widths available for most skates but don't jump to them to over compensate for what a bake may do for you.
  5. I go in expecting not to get any deals but sometimes/rarely you get lucky. but i also wanted to pick up something else, which slips my mind right now....
  6. With sales and the black Friday / cyber Monday craze coming up I'll keep my eyes peeled for the new stuff and hopefully they'll be out and listed asap
  7. I'm still highly anticipating the new TEAM pants as they look very nice at hopefully a comprable price range. I'm hoping for a good holiday bonus this year to pick up the new pants and maybe a new compression undershirt.
  8. Is this Tucson AZ. I know some places don't do daylight savings but I would check the date.
  9. So my friend got the same exact glove as mine and I'm noticing some big differences in the two. My gloves threading is tighter around the webbing but it seems to be a bit "softer" as in the fingers are easier to bend back and the palm padding is a bit less/not nearly as thick (i got this one at sports authority bc it felt good on my hand). My friends threads are a bit looser around the webbing to where it you can see clearly through spots around the edges, but the fingers are stiffer (in q good way) and the padding is notibly thicker, to the point where the fit of the glove feels snugger bc there is more padding in the upper and lower palm.it had more padding than any of the similar gloves at SA. (he got his from homerun monkey, hockeymonkeys sister site) Does either glove have anything wrong with them?
  10. That's actually pretty cool. I think I'll be priced out of the top tier stuff anyway but I'm really liking how the grey and black teams are looming in the mock up. I try to avoid as much white as possible as it stains easily and sweat and everything miscolors it, not so much for pants but it's just a pet peeve I've been hung on.
  11. Yeah the wood bat I have is old thus it being Adirondack wood. I'm pretty sure the Adirondacks have been off limits for wood for a while either that or they don't use that wood for bats anymore. Trying to remember things I may have (mis)heard as a child is tough. So back to relevance I purchased the Easton natural elite nes13 13" for myself. I went into a sports authority to try the fit between mizuno and Easton out and they surprisingly had a nes glove there both the old logo model with the cow in the palm and the new vector logo one with the words natural elite in the palm. I tried that on in all sizes as well as a couple of mizunos and the easton 13"er just felt good on my hand, it was a little softer but the fit was just better for me. The mizuno ones were nice but how it felt on my hand wasn't, it was very tight on my fingers which initially felt nice but in reality it was pulling my fingers and my hand in a way that was leading to cramping and it just wasn't for me. If I didn't have beefy ass hands and fingers then it would be ok. One of the mizunos were so off to me that I couldn't get it on right even after opening the wrist fully. The gloves sent bad, just not for me. So the new won me over I guess. I also picked the newer one with the new vector logo on it bc it felt a little softer/broken in from the start. It also felt like it was a tad lighter though that may just be a mental thing. But I'm really loving getting a glove that still has that lighter tan color to it, it reminds me of little league everything now is either brown or black.
  12. I have an Easton black magic from my little league days still in my bag, but it was for baseball though. I think my sister had the softball version though, or she may have had a better bat bc my dad always spent a little more for his "little girl". And the magic was considered a value bat. Right now one of the guys has a dimariano stadium series, the white one with the balanced load. Even though I'm a strong guy I like it bc it doesn't put strain on my shoulders swinging and it really has great balance. I got to say I wish I could use wood in my league but they don't allow it. I have a wood bat I restored as a kid and I use it for warmups and somewhere in my garage I have a softball bat made from Adirondack wood. But then again new bats are soo loaded it's scary at times how the ball flies off. Also is there a way to slow myself down, I've been used to balls flying by all my life now I'm trying to hold back for a lob, I do get hard hits each time but only a hand few are really great. I tried even stepping up in the box but the places we play have DEEP holes especially in the rh batters box. Like a good 4-5 inches deep
  13. Yeah I remember as a kid working the "tony Gwynn" glove my dad got me and he got me all the right oils and taught me how to work it in and the old ball and rubberband trick. I still have a bit of rawlings oil left from those years. Do you guys suggest anythinghing else, I'm thinking of picking up that lanolin stuff suggested in the hockey glove thread. But I guess gloves don't really have a rabid following per brand such as the hockey stuff, geez are we hockey guys that odd? I think I'll be looking at the Easton natural and the mizuno franchise bc they are going to be less and reviews are saying they're both good gloves. Somethinghing about that light natural leather look of the NE keeps drawing me in.
  14. Hmm maybe I'll look into that size as well. And yeah I wasn't suggesting a wide fit just trying to show my hand shape and what fits me well, if that is even a thing in baseball/softball gloves. Fit and fit preference is such a huge thing in hockey I just assume it is in every thing. With the gloves are there certain things I should look for or avoid? I'm guessing with those gloves I listed theyre decent but there must be so much I don't know about picking a glove.
  15. Didn't know this subforum even existed and I just made a post about softball. If a mod sees the other post feel free to move or delete it. So here it goes .. .....So I started filling in regularly for my friends rec softball team and have been playing well. But the problem is all my stuff is from my teenage years playing baseball and it's either town apart or starting to dry rot. I was looking at new gloves for playing mostly 2nd or catcher and I have no idea how to shoose them. It's not like the wealth of knowledge I built from playing hockey. If any one can give me info it would be great. Also, can anyone recommend a good forum for baseball/slowpitch softball ? Something like MSH where its good for asking things like "should I get xx or xx glove?" And people will actually help and not call me a noob...... Ok since I see you guys are pretty knowedgable maybe I'll ask here as well. My glove is pretty much dissintergrating from dry rot after years in my bag and I'm about to buy a new one for some slow pitch. I'm looking in the $40-50 range and I see 3 options. The Easton natural elite, Easton rival, and mizuno franchise. Any opinions on these? Also I'm thinking 13" as I think 14 would be too large. I'm also not sure how hand size plays into this I use a warrior franchise 13 which has a nice wide feel.
  16. Any date yet for the new pants? Specifically the Team (is that your 2nd tier) one? I see the current ca series is on sale but I'm weary of the contoured sizing especially with big but short legs like I have. Is your new fit closer to what mission uses because my old mission helium 10000 fit nicely and I would like something as close to that as possible. Also in the new line what's the big difference between the platinum fabric used on the top end ones and the pique fabric used on the Teams?
  17. We have guitarists here? I should hangout in the off discussions more often. I have been doing guitar work on the side for myself for a bit of time now, since I was about 18. Built a couple of my own too, maybe I'll post pics if I remember. I've also had the pleasure of being able to hangout at a friend's shop where I have seen and heard some guitars that would make your headspin. But if any MSH member needs some guitar work done I would be happy to do it and I would give a discount to members. I don't want to say too much as I know the forums may have rules about this, as I'm technically pimping my "business" but good guitar work is hard to find. Also chadd, look up bcr music (i believe that's the name) they're right outside Harrisburg and are a great shop, their work is phenominal as well. Speaking to Greg there will really brighten any musicians day.
  18. I would like to update the review by downgrading the durability to an 8 or so. with about 8 game in from last season and playoffs, i went to put the re-akt cage (ill review that separately once i have enough games with it on) onto my helmet and noticed the suspend tech was looking weird. i touched it and the back arm that connect the middle of it to the back had come loose, i thought at first there was an adhesive that came loose, but then noticed a stitch failed. im wondering now if i should report it to bauer see if its taken care of under warranty, stitch it back myself, or leave it because it sits where it should. either way this is a no stress part of the helmet that shouldnt of failed so early.
  19. It nice seeing manufacturers noting that players usually cut their sticks by having their rated flex 3" in and how warrior does theirs as well.
  20. So after my old helmet started to show its age, and the inside gel pads started to move with the hot summer and the immense sweat i decided to go with something a little newer and hopefully has a bit more ventilation. It was this or the e700 but the easton did not fit my head. previous helmet was the H8000 in large, Im keeping it as a backup as there are no issues and i upgraded for better ventilation. Length of use - 2-3 months Fit - GREAT!... for my head that is. For helmets you really need to fit your headshape for the helmet. not only for comfort but that is the best way to protect your dome! Absolutely zero pressure points anywhere on the helmet and its great feeling around the temples/sides due to the block of PoronXRD padding there. I thought my old helmet was comfy but this is legit pillows on my head. I also usually wear a L and got a Med on this helmet and i ended up adjusting it down a lot. Well fitting, comfy, no bulk. Only issue was my ears hit against the ear guards and its not comfy there are all, my old helmet had a grey foam there and it was great, this just has hard clear rubber and it bores on my ear. 9/10 Protection - Feels sturdy and looks like it can take a hit, but JR put it best "New technologies, new foam, new concept. Unfortunately, there's no way for me to prove/disprove that it does as advertised." N/A Weight - Light! Surprisingly light bc there seems to be a lot packed in, with a half shield i can hardly tell its on. its still noticeably lighter than the e700 but it wont bother you in game. i have to get a cage for the upcoming season and im putting on the matching re-akt titanium cage so im not worried about that 9.5/10 Durability - Nothing as of yet, helmet came a little scratched but that may have been a from handling and isnt a structural concern. all screws and moving parts still move well. 10/10 Edit: 8/10 see bottom post for more info Intangibles - One of the big things for me is the heat management. it did this fine and bye bye stinging eyes of summer and visor full of droplets! the hot spot on my forehead form my other helmet is gone and i couldnt be happier. the new inhaler was announced after i bought this or i would of held up. one issue for me was how the black looks, its not a true black. 80% of the time you wont notice but I have OCD and i just catch it in the light sometimes and it erks me. more on this in the pics below. 9/10 Conclusion - I pull no bars in protecting my dome, i need it for a long time and there are no ways of getting around it. i feel comfortable and protected in this helmet. it amazes me how much lighter it is and yet i feel more secure. Im hoping the day that it gets really put to the test never comes but if it does i feel prepared. it also is a great looking helmet with good ventilation. real streamlined but has classic looks. 9.5/10 Final score - 47/50 = 94/100! Pics - very deep black like in the stadiums and on tv right? well sometimes it also looks like this, and JR feel free to remove this but i found in this pic you can see from afar the helemt has a muddy look to it. it never seems to have a real deep "dip your hand into it" liquid black look to it. it looks like real dark dirty oil after an oil change, not saying it looks dirty but thats the best thing i can compare it to. back of the helmet with my "H" logo waterslided on. looks good IMHO
  21. Lousy pic but it's better than nothing. looks pretty good on the helmet, it seems a little big but i think thats the angle. I really need to pop it off and clean it. one thing i forgot about is the ends are pointy, they will poke you, not draw blood but it will poke.
  22. Oakley Pro Straight Visor VR903 (clear) Helmet used: Bauer 8800 & Re-akt Fit: It fits both helmets perfectly. It doesn't pull the sides of the helmet out where it attaches either, so it does not affect the fit of the helmet. It actually made my 8800 fit better because the sides werent getitng squeezed in by the cage anymore, i hope being forced back to a cage wony cause problems with the re-akt. Spacers are provided and the side slots allow you to position the visor how you like but the instructions say to push it all the way forward. It also stays in the same position well but i have had some movement on hits, nothing major but it does happen here and there. 9.5/10 Protection: Its a straight cut visor so its really for your eyes but it does protect a good part of my nose. it has saved my face though by being out and blocking a stick blade that would of otherwise hit my face. it doesnt however deter asses on the other team from trying to throw their elbow at your chin. you know those ones the refs never catch. 8/10 Optics: There is no distortion or anything. I have worn this visor in both well and poorly lit rinks and there was no problem. a little hard to keep clean for someone with OCD like me but shouldnt be a problem for most. 9/10 Fog: I use the AFR oakley cleaning spray as recommended and havnt had a problem. i will say on the bench heavy breathing does fog up the bottom lip and that does sometimes solidify as water on my visor. but that could be easily wiped away. i usually wait to the end of the game to wipe it as others will use my towel as a sweat rag, or i will smudge something onto the visor and that will drive me more nuts. 8/10 Durability: I take care of my visors and purchased a micro-mesh helmet bag for trucking around. The visor is strong and there are no visible marks or swirls. even the stick i took to it didnt leave a mark. I use a 100% cotton wash cloth and the afr to clean it. i also dont put the cloth in a wash with fabric softener in it bc sometimes chemical reactions occur. i also dont use softener for any of my gear bc it temporarily destroys the wicking abilities most pieces have. 10/10 Intangibles: This visor has helped me keep my head up believe it or not. i no longer have the bars of the cage blocking the puck in my peripherals. i love it just for that alone! 10/10 Conclusion: Pricey but i love it! comes with all the hardware needed to go and its a fairly easy set up. two hands are better than one for mounting and holding things down while youre tightening the screws but its an easy 1 man job. Overall rating: 54.5/60 = 91/100! Great stuff!
