VH Footwear/TRUE by Scott Van Horne
BRUINS_FAN_74 replied to dsjunior1388's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I'm 6' 1" and 174 pounds. I've never had any issues with stopping or speed with 3/8, but will see if that's different with VH. I'll drop down to 7/16 if need be. The ice over here is constantly different, I guess do to the Australian weather, but on average pretty hard ice. For sure not even close to how good the ice is back home in the US, but will do until we move back to the US in a few years. -

I got the thicker felt tongue with enhanced metatarsal guard, but coming off pro stock skates prior, it's not very thick compared to those. These are pretty flexy, but I wear my shins over the tongues. I think it will actually feel a bit better not having such a crazy thick tongue. I'll find out Friday once I finally get to skate in them! Really looking forward to it. I normally use 3/8, so I hope I don't feel sluggish in my VH, which I never did in my TACKS or RBZ. -

I don't know how Scott puts his on so easy in the video. Tried putting my foot at an angle like he does, then twisting my foot, but still a struggle to put them on. Might be different once I tweak the eyelet area later today. I really hope it helps or it's going to rip my skin up in that area everytime I put them on.Feels odd (not in a bad way) having my toes on my left foot touch the end of the toecap, as they never do in retail as my right foot is bigger than my left. For once my arches feel like they line-up properly in skates, also feels like I'll have good arch support even though the footbeds are pretty flimsy. I can tell, once I get the little issues dialed in, they are going to be awesome. Can't wait to get out on the ice with them, but won't get the chance until Friday... -

Baked mine today and jesus, they were hard to get on! Felt awesome once on, but the shoehorn actually made it a pain to get the skate on. Was hard to get them off too. After cooling down for a few hours, I find it hard to get them on, but once my feet get in, they feel awesome. I'm going to have to heat up the area around eyelets 2, 3, 4 and 5 like the video suggested, so I can get them on properly. -

The red is pretty red in person. "Rounded in the heel" the runner or the actual skate? -

I misread the email from Rob, and yes it is possible :) I'm going to have to see if it's not to late to add it to my order. I don't seem to get quick replys back -

Just placed my order yesterday. I skate barefooted and Rob suggested the black wick liner, but I think I'm going to stay with clarino. My order: New style toe cap New one piece tendon guard Felt tongue with metatarsal guard Color RED CCM SB +4.0 Holder (size 280 with no steel) Tan clarino liner Enhanced impact protection I was hoping to do black, white and golden yellow for the colors, but wasn't and option.... no embrodery available on tongue with a metatarsal guard, but as long as the skate fit and perform awesome, I'll be happy! -
Catalogue Review 2015 STX Hockey Catalogue

My Warrior gear needs to be replaced, and I was going to stick with Warrior (will for gloves, pants, helmet, sticks) but going to try the SURGEON 500. Hopefully I'll be able to have a set sent over to Australia! -
I thought the same thing when I saw the photo
-
Shave them, but just my opinion... I wish they came shaped the same as stock steel, but I would still profile them regardless.
-
I read somewhere (I think on this forum) where someone had it done to theirs match stock steel. I'm going to look into it next time I send mine into no-icing sports. I still wish mine were shaved down a bit more, but still better than it was...
-
The height difference on the stock RBZ compared to the STEP is a fair bit. I also agree about the snow
-
I don't like the heels on them... way too chunky! I like to use the heel of the runner and find the heel area on stock steel way better... I felt all over the place on them until I had noicing sports do a combo radius on them with a neutral pitch, which I love! I did have the heel shaved down on them, which did make it a bit better, but when I eventually send them to have them profiled again, I'm going to have the heel shaved down even more. The extra height of the steel with the extra height of the +4.0 holder is a little much, but used to it now, but still think the height of the steel could of been a little less for the CCM holder. But the quality of the steel is great and sticking with it from now on.

Sharpening: Blade Hollow and the Relationship to Body Weight
BRUINS_FAN_74 replied to Gretsch's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I'm 6' 1" and 174 pounds. I started on 5/8, then 1/2, then used 7/16 for ages, now using 3/8. I had my steel done with a combo radius 7'/12' with a 3/8 hallow but doesn't feel like 3/8 as I thought it would be a bit more sluggish. I felt on my stock steel 7/16 was a bit more sluggish, but must be due to the different radius?- 47 replies
