  1. The Nexus and Supreme lines are going to "merge" and the Nexus line is slowly going to be phased out entirely over time. Similar to how CCM has the JetSpeed and the Tacks lines, Bauer will start doing the same.

I don't remember where I heard it and it may have been bad info. Apparently the 2S Pro pants will be a continuation of the Supreme line's hybrid style while the rest of the line will be a Nexus-like fit.

It might be incorrect but it seems as if the Nexus pants are more popular than Supremes, so it may be possible.

Meh, I'd steer clear of solvents in general. Anything that breaks up adhesives like you've described is going to be pretty nasty, may even damage the composite in the process.

Best bet, just keep chipping away at it by hand. I find a dremmel tool with a sanding cylinder makes pretty quick work of that sort of stuff.

What a freaking nightmare. I have never seen anyone use any type of adhesive so strong before. I dont understand what they were thinking. It's not like silicone or something to hold it in place. I really dont understand why on earth they did this.

Do you find the more pricey bags such as Conway and Banks which provide a lot of features such as a foot mat, mesh ports for air flow, dividers in the bag for partitioning gear, etc to be worth it? My current bag is pretty much falling apart now after 15 years of use and I'm looking to upgrade. I see a lot of decent looking bags out there for $50-$60 and wonder if the expensive bags are worth it. Other than skates & gloves, I tend to keep anything until it literally falls apart, so I'm much more concerned about durability, practicality and features such as small pockets to put tape in and so on, rather than price. I'm 100% willing to pay double or triple the price for something that lasts me many years and is quality, as opposed to cheaply made garbage I'll be replacing in 3-4 years.

    Let's hear your experiences below.

I own a  Conway and Banks bag and absolutely love it. Previously I had a Grit AirBox which was also nice but it did not wear very well. I think the  Conway and Banks bags are well worth their price for the quality of the product. We sell them in our store and all of the customers who have bought them have been very happy.

    Howdy,

If you're ditching the holders anyway, perhaps some judicious cutting / grinding would help?

Where you go from there will depend on how well the adhesive is bonded to the boot.  If its really on there, I'd probably just sand it down until it was just a very, very thin layer.

Seems like it will be tedious / time consuming.  May not be worth it if time is turning into money in some manner.

Well, I'm already committed to getting it finished and while going the mechanical route is an option I was hoping there might be a solvent option.

Whatever they used it's super strong, I threw the skate in the skate oven for about two and a half minutes and didn't even soften whatever that adhesive is.

  5. A customer brought in a pair of skates that had a broken holder and wanted them to be replaced.

After removing the rivets I'm finding that the holder is also secured to the boot with some type of construction grade adhesive, something similar to a liquid nails.

Any suggestions on how to get this off?

I tried using some non-aggressive solvents to loosen it and they didn't work. I don't want to damage the composite of the skate, which is also why I'm afraid to try and just pry it off.

I asked him to reach out to the shop that did the installation to see if he could find out what specific adhesive was used so that I could contact the manufacturer so I can use the right chemical to soften it for removal.

This is a pair of TUUK Edge holders on AS1 skates.

Which grit/density of Gumi stone do you use?  Both Nash Sports and Tydan are offering Gumi type stones for Black/coated steel, but neither list the specs on it. Both are a brick color, so I'm wondering if the color is specific and that's the one I need.  They're cheaper on Amazon.

    I use this one:

  7. I have a customer who is wanting to order these. I haven't personally seen anyone using them in a very long time. I gave him the option with going with items we have in store, Bauer LS Edge and CCM XS Holders, but he seems to think the QuikBlade holder is far superior to the others. Just looking from some general feedback from individuals that either use them or have services skates using them. For those unfamiliar with the holde, here is their website.

I’m using a P28M now it’s a ADV pro stick 82 flex with a P28M curve name on stick is wideman is an awesome stick I love it but it wasn’t cheap I still paid $235 with shipping

The P28M and P92M are my favorites patterns. One you go with a max height blade you can never go back to a standard type.

My son is 14 about 150lbs.plays forward. Hes always been on a contour with an ex equipment manager for hockey Canada , skate is marked 3.5 , 1.0.

He recently went to the pro shop to try a quad zero and the guy really recommended the zuperior m saying it was the most popular. So hes trying the zuperior now, he likes it says he feels more blade on the ice but I'd like him to try the quad zero as well. What are the benefits to a quad zero compared to Zuperior? And has anyone compared the two? Hes a really good skater, the zup seems to have lengthen his stride alot. Thanks for any insight!

What size skate does he wear?

How much should I expect the FT1’s to give in length after baking? I just received my pair in a usual 8 D like I wore in every other Bauer for the last decade and they’re extremely tight to the point where I’m contemplating going up half a size.

I find the jet speed fit about 0.5 sizes smaller than others. For example, I wear a 7EE in Vapor and a 7.5 EE in jet speed.

Looking into the one piece goalie skate. Of course I have to see if I could install an Overdrive blade on the skate; if so- it will be bought for my business! I have to have a pair to show that it can be done!  Bwahaha!!! Anywho- I will be very interested in seeing how the scan process will be compared to the tracing process. I am kind of hoping they could refer to how my last boot was built, as it is damned close to perfection! Do they still take into account all of your sore spots? Has anyone here ordered the one piece goal skate? If so, how do you like it?

What are these Overdrive enhancements? I went to your website and am still not clear on what they are and what they do.

Sorry orthomoves are what I don't like.

As for the first gen SP, the ones I have had not cracked and I've had them for a few mths and have rebaked them at least five times due to swapping out skates etc. I heard they improved the durability after the initial roll out revealed issues with premature cracking.

I also have never the had Gen 1 or Gen 2 fail. I think the Gen 2 is more comfortable but I do like how firm and responsive the Gen 1 SP feel.

I allow it to dry for more than two days. When it's dry it's locked in. But because water CAN get in from the top because it's not sealed, when it does it'll cause some slippage.

It seems to be more of an issue with my true stick vs my Bauer due to shaft shape. Even buttendz is aware of this and tells you to have the stick blade down while on the bench.

I find their grips are too thick and prevent me from having enough puck feel.

Seriously- the nano particles do increase the carbon to resin ratio, which can increase the durability. At the time that I had learnt about nano particles, I was not able to get any, but using graphite powder, whilst not as engineered, gave great effect in a wet lay up (which I doubt has been used in stick construction EVER), so I can’t imagine how well ENGINEERED nano carbon helped in an applied application. It was most likely engineered into the pre-preg (as I do think sticks were ALWAYS using pre-preg from day 1), so the cost was most likely a factor, as well. But oddly enough, the nano particles of carbon fibre (which has a specific shape) and powdered graphite had similar effect as far as helping enhance the length of the fibrous chain. Obviously the nano particle was symmetrical (unlike the powder, which is ground with random shapes), and it’s consistent shape is what made it VERY expensive.

Please pardon the geeking out; I LOOOOOOOVE the subject of composites construction! Now if my mould making skills could come back, I will be a VERY happy bunny!

The idea of adding nano sprinkles to the resin has been tried before, not with shabby results, on the Easton CNT Stealth. There was a lot of praise for that stick, especially for its durability, which some speculated was good enough that Easton killed it because it didn’t have the appropriate obsolescence time for its pricepoint. I wonder how this would compare. I’m not into the vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate curves Kode offers, so I doubt I’ll try it (I’m more of a butter pecan or real pistacio guy).

What is a nano sprinkle? It sounds delicious and something I would add to a cupcake 😉
