Do you still feel they support your arches a bit though? Do you suffer at all from any kind of flat feet or over pronation?

Only reason  I use the SF is because they say it helps correct mild over pronation issues to get feet better aligned (which I suffer from). I like the idea of the insole being a little grippy, I do find my right foot slides around just a bit.

For me the arch support in them actually hurts. I have very high arches so maybe that's the issue. I experimented with different sized SF but all of them hurt at the front of the area he, just behind the ball of my foot. Other than high are he's my feet are pretty standard. I'm between a 7.5D and a 7.5EE in most skates, an actual 7.5E fits perfect!

About 6 months ago I stumbled across the best stick tape option I've ever felt: Era Lacrosse Anaconda grip. https://eralacrosse.com/collections/anaconda-grips

Let's you tape the knob you want then wrap it in the rubber.  The black is more of a dense gasket type rubber, which has left my palms a bit black but nowhere near the stiffness/smell/residue of regular tape. The red and green are much more silicone-y if that makes sense(?) but that one hasn't even left coloring - literally no wear to speak of.

They're expensive compared to tape obviously but they'll last the life of the stick, cannot recommend enough!

I'll check this out. Looks interesting. Kinda pricey though.

Do any of those alternatives (Wilson, Alienpros, X speedfit) have adhesive backing or do they rely on the overlap and tape at eith end to keep them in place?

I use 3M spray adhesive and then use the wrap. Its waterproof and easy can be removed with over the counter solvents. Typically I only tape my stick end once and then never need to do it again.

Check out the new Kode sticks. I worked with the founder in the industry and he really knows what he is doing. One of those guys behind the scenes that you never see, but has developed some of the most amazing equipment the sport has seen. If you are interested in quality and performance over of marketing, give them a shot. Gloves coming soon I heard.

Not sure if I read anything of significance here. Most resins and carbon or composite technologies are first developed for companies that specialize in the space, marine and aeronautical industries before those technologies either go mainstream or the patents allow for others usage. So when I read about some "game-changing" technology being released I am very skeptical.

Can you compare them to SF? I've been in the SF for probably... over 10 years? or about ten years give or take. I like the idea of molding an insole to ones foot but I also think that if it molded to people with flatter feet, it wouldn't quite provide the support needed?

At $50 it's sort of a pricey experiment for me right now.

    I absolutely hate SF. Sorry.

Confirmed what I had originally thought. That is lazy.

Makes me wonder though if a player actually feel that slight off mounting? I was poking around online and found some other Pro Stock skates with oversized holders. To be honest, they also look like they are mounted very far forward as well. One of them was a pair of 280 holders on a 7.5 skate, for example.

Bump for more input and response from nicholas g regarding ft1 vs ft490.

I recently bought ft1's (after about 20 years of grafs).  I need to have them profiled to put me more on my toes, but the right foot feels amazing.  Super light and just about as perfect of a fit as i could want.  The left side (my bigger foot) needs more room all around.  Might need to go custom unless the ft490 heel pocket has a little more room to let my foot settle in more.

The FT490 has slightly more room in the heel and ankle than the FT2 since there is less padding, I feel like the FT490 fits more like a Super Tack AS1 in the heel. Overall, the FT2 is slightly more snug. However. neither are as snug as the FT1. If anything, I think the fit of the FT1 is ideal for a players foot like mine and no other retail skate fits like it, including the Vapor. The only way for me to get the same level of fit is with TRUE.

I have been skating in FT1 for over a year. I have a narrow heel with wide forefoot. The fit has been perfect for me. I did switch out the CCM footbed for Superfeet as I have been using SF for years. I'm just curious if those guys using FT1 are still using the stock retail CCM footbed. I think the footbed will ultimately play into the fit and comfort of any skate.

I personally use a Bauer Speed Plate in all of my skates. I love them.

The back and front of the outsole have been reinforced with two layers of carbon and one layer of glassfiber.

I bought the skate barely used but had a small crack just outside the holder. The crack was repaired and to prevent more damage to the very weak outsole I decided to reinforce all the poorly made parts. Some of the plastic in  the toecap was removed to get some extra support.

860 gram after the repairs (8EE). What is the original weight??

The repairs was made by Sharp4.se

What was the cost on that? The work looks very good.

They changed to be more inline with Bauer a few years back. The numbers aren't exact, but they are pretty close, a few mm off.

And BTW, the easiest way to tell if they were mounted properly would be to pull the footbed and look at the holes for the rear tower. If they didn't drill new holes, then it's off by 9mm.

I'll have him snag a photo and email me it. When I get it I'll post it.

At this point, just put the factory installed 263 holders back on and go with a longer profile. Saves the boot from the scrap bin. The shop should sould toss in an extra set of steel for the hassle.

    FWIW, 263 on a 7.5D seems about right, 272 on a EE.

I have him that as an option, for us to install a set of 263 holders, but that's not what he wants.

i've used this stuff on my hockey sticks in the past. they're 0.55mm so essentially the same thickness as lizard skin. they do shift a bit because there's no adhesive but they're so cheap i just overlap them a bit more.

I put a layer of cloth tape and then the over wrap on top. The other option is to use some 3M glue spray and the put the over wrap on.

To be completely honest with you, I wouldn't touch that job at all.

Now you're putting a third set of holes that are really close to each other, or further expanding an existing set of holes. If the shop can't handle doing oversized, they shouldn't take that job on.  If I were the skater, I'd want new boots.

Correct.  They saw the back 6 line up and drilled new holes in the front.

Agreed. I'll let him know. I am not sure if the shop that did the work is gonna replace the boot though for their shoddy workmanship. He said they were quite defensive when he first asked them if they mounted the holders too far forward basically telling him they do it all the time and other shops, and the online community, are overall clueless. I am trying to be politically correct by specifically not naming the shop.

Agreed. The mount is too far towards the toe

What’s also bad is those rivets were CRANKED.  You can see each one has warped the holder.  Looks like someone doesn’t know how to use a pneumatic riveter.

Yeah, IMO those holders are destroyed and he should seek to get his money back from the shop who did the install. He also should be refunded for the installation too.

Can I have him send you the skates to get the holders mounted properly?

I am having the guys at the shop check and see if we have another set of 272 holders in stock so he doesn't have to drive all the way back up to Vancouver.

  14. We have the FT490 and FT2 in stock, but are obviously not selling them yet. What do you want to know about them?

    1 hour ago, BlueNux said:

I would try both the FT2 and FT490. Different price points fit and feel differently - sometimes it's not even subtle.

By the way, the embargo for retailers just dropped on the top 3 lines of the new Jetspeed skates. You can check them out here at Ice Warehouse. Each skate has video showcasing each feature from different angles.

Personally, I'm not a fan of how the new heel pocket looks. They said they expanded it a little, but looking at the pictures and comparing them to the previous Jetspeed skates, the new heels are cavernous across all price points.

Has any store owners here tried the new skates?
