  1. I, personally, can’t think of any skate that would last me 6 years. I did love my TF9s and are probably still the best feeling skates I’ve ever used. Yes, I replaced some rivets, but part of that was due to the poor initial installation and part of that was taking a clapper to the holder which popped a pair of them. I did have the carbon crack on one heel but it only appeared to be the outer shell and didn’t affect performance.

I play at least double the amount of games you play each year so based on that kind of math, these skates could have theoretically lasted 4-5 years

  2. Tried the spray during a game last night and feel my experience echos the others. Definitely kept snow off the blade the entire game, but that’s about all the positives I can say about it.

That being said, I did have an off game after a 3 week break so that could also have something to do with it. I’ll leave the spray on the stick for the next game and see if my mind changes

  3. Interesting. I used a Profile II before switching to a Reakt and do remember preferring the Profile’s ‘profile’ but the reakt’s weight savings was too much to ignore. Had to move up in size with the reakt so it was long enough on my face and then bent it a bit so it fit my helmet. Patiently waiting for the updated titanium cage Bauer is supposed to be releasing in the Profile shape

  4. Waiting to see Vegas’ placement, but the Panthers is horrible. The patch has always been on the right chest, has it not? There’s enough space under the ad patch to still accommodate it there. Just another reason advertiser patches are the worst.

On an unrelated note, while I like the new style SCF patch overall, I dislike that it doesn’t say ‘SCF’ anywhere. The style is more generic for the playoffs or like a patch the team would wear after they won

  5. I’ve been wearing a Super Tacks X helmet for the last 8 months or so. Was able to find a new pro stock for just over $200 in my color/size and couldn’t be happier. Extremely breathable, easily the most comfortable helmet I’ve ever worn, and I hit my head on the ice a few weeks back and it did a good job protecting me from the impact. I’d never pay retail for one, but $200-250? I’ve spent that on worse

Are you having issues with pucks or with falling?

Thanks for some of the tips guys. Keep ‘em coming!
I do not have an issue with falling, but do play D so I take my fare share of pucks/blocked shots. Figured it was worth a shot to see if I notice anything. Worst case it does nothing and I can either leave it or remove it altogether

  7. I can't seem to find the threads anymore, but I'm looking for help/guidance for those who have added D3O to their existing pads. While I attempted to purchase a sheet of material, the cost and shipping were pretty absurd. Thankfully I found some shot blockers that I took apart and figured I could easily cut them up as needed. My plan was to make donuts to put on the knees of my shin pads for some additional protection, but maybe it's better just to throw a slab in the center of the kneecap? To those of you that have done something similar, do you have any pics and tips?

Would be putting them on these Bauer 1X shins

  8. Had a chance to check out FT6 Pro protective gear at the LHS this weekend. Pants and elbows were a big 'meh' from me. While I'm going to hold onto my Bauer 1X shins until they crumble, one thing I did find interesting about the FT6 Pro shin guards wasn't the aer-tec mesh panels, but rather the plastic insert that runs the length of the shin to further separate your leg from the outside of the pad. Gotta imagine this will also help in some shock absorption which is pretty cool. The shoulders were the piece that impressed me most due to the amount of holes cut in the foam for breathability. When my CL's bite the dust, I think this is what I'll be upgrading to. I disliked the FT4 Pro shoulder pads as they ran really hot for me, but the newest generation looks like a massive improvement.

  9. I wear a medium Super Tacks girdle, but don’t think I’ve been able to drop down in any shell. PP10, PP90, PPTK are all mediums. Warrior QRE I actually have to size UP to large for them to fit properly.

PP10s I really keep for pants moreso than girdles because they fit baggier/boxier. My preferred shells are PPTK and QRE because they’re more streamlined, have zippers on the thighs so it’s easier to get them on/off, and have a better belt system to keep them secure.

Why don’t you want to buy girdle shells?

  10. Not that I’m in the need for new skates, and historically the Jetspeed line has not fit my feet well, but I’ll admit the features of this new model look very compelling. Really want to check out the tongue and possibly mod it for True skates. And as much as I dislike the new logo, these look way better than the horrendous FT4s in every aspect. Only wish they would have gone *down* in flex, not up. ASVs are already too stiff and now the FT6 is the same stiffness?!

  11. Thanks for the new video. I think they *look* like they have much more ventilation compared to the previous gen. The FT4 pros ran really hot for me so I went back to CL shoulder pads. Sounds like the FT6 pro isn’t really any better so that saves me money!

Wouldn’t the bend in the padding help contour to your body? That was my initial reaction. But I do agree with you that if all that’s creating a gap is how stuff is sewn, the aer-tec ‘system’ will inevitably stretch out and lose whatever benefits they may have offered.

Maybe a paint marker?  Should be more durable than something like a Sharpie, but I've gotta say, any time I've seen gloves that people have blacked out branding/accents you can always tell.  Depending on where the accents are/size/shape, maybe just covering an area with pad-skinz in black might look better?

Same. All I can think about is…

I bought some almost new True Catalyst 5's I wear size 8R in Grafs and CCM's, I got 8.5R in these.

I’d you went UP a half size from CCM, these skates are pretty much guaranteed to be a half size too big. Cats should be the same size as CCM/Bauer. The TF line was a half size *smaller*

  14. I have a pair of Bauer 1X shins that I absolutely love. Curv composite, the flexible piece at the ankle, and solid coverage on the back of the calves all while staying pretty streamlined. The kneecaps and shells are still in great condition, but the removable liner has seen better days and I’m wondering if anyone has ever replaced their liners. If so, what did you do? I tuck my tongues and the lower part of the inside of the shins is beat up. Has anyone repaired this area?

Every tutorial I’ve come across online seems to focus on straps or cracked kneecaps
