I just purchased R1s. I don't play roller hockey at all, but I'd like to skate on wheels as closely as possible to exactly the way I skate on ice. I'm confused by their description of one insert as being "most like ice" and another as providing the "smoothest"  heel-toe transitions and maximum control. To me, those are somewhat synonymous, so I'm confused by that. Obviously, I skate much better on ice, because of thousands of hours on ice skates vs. < 50 hours on wheels in my life, mostly on O1s during the Pandemic. If my goal is simply to set up the same hockey drills on concrete that I typically use on the ice, which inserts will probably allow me to skate most proficiently on concrete the first time that I try out my new R1s? Thanks in advance for any input; I appreciate it.

If you already have the O1s and don’t play roller hockey, why get the R1s?

any other tf9 users kind of hate how stiff the tongue is? i've tried adjusting to all different heights and it constantly digs into my foot. considering swapping it out for the felt tongue that comes with the tf7. just hate the idea of buying the more expensive skates and then spending another $70 to swap the lesser models tongue.

I picked up these replacement tongues for my ice TF9’s (kept the standard tongue on my rollers). Got free embroidery for my number too. Not sure if that’s still offered as I got them back during the height of Covid

I picked up a pair of these a couple of months ago (thanks to targeted ads that got me 🤬) and honestly I'm beyond happy with them.  They're on thge thinner side but do have some extra material in certain areas and also offer some compression, they also offer a cut resistant version if that's something that interests you.  I was skeptical but seeing how Peter Forsberg was involved I decided to give it a try (he's got a pretty good track record with products, even if his other major product is hideous and I'd never wear them... Crocs).

Marketing got to me too. Picked up a pair of the anti-cut skate socks and tested them out last week. I didn't notice the padding or anything and I mean that in the best way possible. The cut resistant portion was very snug, but could still fit around my calves. Biggest problem, for me at least, is that I really dislike socks this tall. The cut resistant material also holds onto heat so my legs were much warmer than usual. I reached out to the Aycane team and apparently they're in development on a mid-shin sock which would be right up my alley

Same with Bauer shin-pads. I have a pair of 1S shins with Curv Composite protecting the shin and I don't believe Bauer uses Curv in their shinpads anymore and have gone back to hard plastic throughout. Yet prices have only gone up and not all due to inflation.

I love my Bauer 1x shin pads. Like the 1S, they're made of Curv Composite and have this hinge at the ankle. Bauer ditched both in what I an only assume are cost cutting measures

My impression of Bauer skates is while prices keep creeping higher every year, the quality of materials used in the skates construction is decreasing with each passing generation. Sure each passing generation will likely get lighter and stiffer, but will you get the comfort and usage/durability out of skates that customers have become accustomed to? I'm not so sure.

This applies to more than just skates and not just Bauer. Both Bauer and Warrior seem to be cheapening their offerings for the last 4-5 years. An example would be the APX2/1X glove got downgraded in the 1x lite and that continued into the hyper lite glove. Warrior's latest LX elbow pad is a substantial step down from their DX elbow pad the year before. Same applies to the quality of their gloves since the QR1

All of there stuff seems pretty interesting. Can't bring myself to pay that much for base layers though

Didn't you just buy the new Bauer stuff that's more expensive? 😉 Speaking of which, I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on them whenever you get around to doing a review

2023 Bauer will be introducing a new titanium cage with the Profile shape.

Looking forward to this! Preferred the fit of the profile ii years ago when I used them. Have gotten used to the reakt after sizing up but will definitely want to try out the new design when they release it

  8. If you can find one, I’m a huge fan of the Reakt titanium cage. Had to size up from the profile ii size so it was long enough, but much preferred it over the CCM titanium cage. Been using the Reakt cage for 4-5 years at this point with various Bauer and CCM helmets

I use the felt t-guard tongue (https://www.hockeyvancouver.ca/products/true-t-guard-felt-replacement-skate-tongues) and haven't had any issues with lace bite. I don't really tighten my skates at all until I get to the third eyelet, the rest are just barely snug against the tongue.

I use the same tongue on my TF9s and also ordered it from Hockey Vancouver. They did free embroidery which was pretty sweet, but that may have been a Covid thing. Like you, I don't have issues with lace bite, and don't crank the laces, just leave them taught
