There's an invite/private pickup in Clearwater a couple of days a week, mostly over 50 all the way up to pushing 80. I would say more than half the gear there belongs on the wall of a sports bar or in a museum. I wear an old HM40 cat eye cage, the lighter weight broomball/lacrosse/hockey brother of the HM30 I used to wear a half shield. After getting cut a couple times and the bridge of my nose peeled back I went back to a full cage, hated it. I had an old HM40 left over from my box lacrosse days, I've been wearing it for 7-8 years.

Wow. I feel your pain and share your suffering. I have 4.75 & 5.5 EEE ball and A heel with 254 holders, custom TotalOnes. Looking at VHs for my next skates and my sons. -

Enough of you guys have those now that somebody has to be able to do a review, please. Pretty please. -
Had a similar experience with my Kor skates. Not to the extent of yours. I tend to block a fair number of shots. I have a pair of Shift 1s and 2s, both have several small chunks out of the carbon fibre base in the toe area. Never compromised the integrity/stability of the holder like yours.

The Step Steel for my sons U+12 skates was listed as a mm difference in one direction or the other for his size skate compared to the holder. I forget which, think it was smaller. Fit perfect, not sure why they do that.

Could it be a bent blade, I think this leads to pretty erratic and inconsistent sharpening. If it were a slight bend it might not be visible. I have one on my Fusions, planning on replacing it with Step. Just haven't gotten around to it. I found out about 45 mins. before a playoff game last season. Sharpener spent about 15 mins. on that one skate to get consistency the length of the blade.

We traded out the CCM steel for Step Velocity steel in my sons U+12s. After they started to get a little nicked up and a few local sharpeners got ahold of them, I just gave up on the whole don't hone thing. They look pretty beat up now. I hate trying to get a decent and consistant skate sharpening in this state.

Have a bent Fusion I need to replace as well.

I have been trying to get an answer for pretty much the exact same question. My son has been skating in U+12s. Finally outgrew his old pair as they were literally falling apart. I managed to get him a used pair a size larger for a great price. He is a very technical skater with amazing edge work and I'd really like to get him a pair of Makos. Problem is there is only one store in the entire state that stocks them and they have a very limited supply of sizes. So trying on a few different pairs close to his size is probably only going to be achievable through UPS/USPS.

Just noticed on hockeymonkey that there is now a Junior price that is lower than the Senior one.

My sons U+12s are beginning to really show their wear, not sure if they're going to fall apart first or if he's going to outgrow them. Begining to explore options for his next pair of skates, do you know if the RBZ skate will have Jr. sizes and/or pricing?
-
I guess that pretty much means these skates aren't an option for me.

Should be handwritten under the right insole. Mine has a 5 digit number & underneath that is the skate length, forefoot width, heel width and a T6.

I had a pair of CCM OHL Tacks that had a gold colored titanium coated blade purchased mid to late 80s.

What part of the country do you live in? You're going to pay a fair bit for custom skates. The custom fitting is not crazy expensive, the high cost is a result of limited model selection and the fact that you pay full retail price for the skate. This is a significant investment, you want them to be perfect. Tracing your feet just isn't going to get you the return on your investment you want. There is a lot more that should be involved in the process. When I was fitted for my custom TotalOnes the process took close to 2 hours and involved a good foot measurement, trying on various skates in different models, pencil tests, multiple measurements in different areas of each foot, a discussion of each of the choices available for each customizable option, a tracing of my feet and more. Even after all of this it still took a couple of bakes, a punch out and a slight stretch to get a perfect fit. If you are going to pay the extra $$$ for custom skates you want someone who is very knowledgeable, competent and familiar with the process. I'm from Canada but now live in a non-hockey state. The pro shop near me said I could come in and he'd trace my feet and order some skates. I found another skate choice at that time. Several years later I was going to the other side of the state for a tournament, at a rink that had an employee who was well known for his knowledge and familiarity with the process. I set up an appointment several months before I was in town and got fitted. If you read through the custom fitting posts you'll see that people can drive hours and even to another state in order to get a proper custom fitting. I have feet that are shaped like a ducks and have always had a very difficult time with skates. YMMV.

I skated on Mission Pitch 3s on my Kor Shift 1 & 2 skates. I tried to switch to Grafs. The difference in the quality of steel was so noticeable, that I have a pair of brand new Grafs sitting in my closet. Realizing just how important high quality steel is I got a set of Step Velocity steel for my sons's CCM CLs. I was concerned about the weight as the blade felt almost like it weighed as much one of his skates. He's currently in a camp where the last hour of the day is all small area games. I had the new steel put in during their off ice session and had them sharpened with a regular hollow. He is 11 playing Peewee AA and skates 4-5 days a week, regular practice, power skating, games etc. As I was loading his gear into the Jeep I asked him what he thought of the new steel. He just looked at me and smiled from ear to ear and didn't say a word. Pretty much sums it up.

I broke my foot in 2 places and jammed my toe over at an awkward angle on a bad jump in the military. It left me with a rather large ugly nasty bunion, on top of my already short, deep, really wide feet. JR fit me for my customs. He traced out the bunion and went with up sized toecaps. The area came pre-punched out from the factory, there was a noticeable divot inside the skate for the bunion to fit into. It still had a little bit of pressure and I had the area punched out a little bit more over a few days at a shop with a punchout machine. My bunion/bump is pretty sizeable. Think about a large marble cut in half. I needed customs regardless due to my feet, the work the factory did in that area made a big difference in relieving a pressure point.

I have custonm toe caps. I've had my custom Total Ones for a while now. I have a short foot with an A heel, EEE ball area along with needing a very dep fit. There is simply no off the shelf skate currently availabe that could be made to fit my feet. JR did my fitting, couldn't have been more helpfull. I have custom toe caps. Unfortunately I can't remember if it was width only or if it included a taller "roomier" fit as well. There is some customizing that can be done with the toe cap.

I know nothing about them. I had planned to change the holders on my g7s to Pitch 3s, to get rid of the Graf steel. If the price is reasonable I may try this instead. I live in Florida, so LHS is out of the question looking at their map. Any online source anybody knows of? Hunter
