  1. anybody had a chance to try the new 6K shoulders? They look pretty nice - perforated, and slim enough http://www.greatskate.com/product/id/8654/...ulder-Pads.aspx how heavy are they & how is the range of motion comparing with Sherwood 5030?
  2. I thought the new collection will only become avilable as of April 10, and in stores as of April 15? Who told you that? I had sent an email to greatskate.com asking about the actual dates since the line is available on the site for pre-sale the answer was "shipping on April 15" why? Is this incorrect? If so could you please enlighten us? Thanks!

  4. here we go - straight from the horse's mouth (just look at the table & compare bite angles of FBV to a regular circular hollow) http://www.flatbottomv.com/technical_data.pdf
  5. have you had a chance to look at One95 girdle? How does it compare to One95 (on paper changes appear to be minimal)? also re shins - aren't they 20% lighter then One90s (which were already pretty light)? these are only 2 pieces on the line I'm interested in & so would appreciate your feedback (since I was going to pre-order these 2 items) Thanks!
  6. Most people I have put into the FBV say the 100/75 has more bite than 1/2", and I would agree. The 90/75 is right around 5/8 or 11/16 in terms of bite. 100/75 is definitely a LOT more bite then 5/8 - I'd say to me it felt in between of 1/2 or 3/8 - more like 3/8 100/50 is more bite then 90/75 for sure, it's somewhere in between of 5/8 & 9/16, more like 9/16 so basically I agree with Chadd :))
  7. yeah - I agree... 7, maybe 8 - 10 is way overkill re "lasting just as long" - what cut was it? would you say this across the board or only for 90/75 & 100/75? like I said before 9/16 used to last me over 15 hrs on ice 100/50 lasted maybe 5 - quite a bit of a difference! 100/75 seems to be holidng up better, but it's too deep so I don't like it well - would you call One95 skates performance? they seem to be holding up quite well
  8. as far as I know the price hasn't been finalized, and even the service hasn't been made officially available to all customers $10 is way too much, and last I heard they were thinking the same way, especially considering that FBV doesn't last as long as conventional sharpening
  9. Because one number corresponds to the flatness of the blade and the other of the bite angle. 100 would mean that there's more of a flat, therefore, the edge on the 50 will be more pronounced than the same edge with a 90 flat. Make sense? I also read the brochure & understand what both numbers represent, that's why I knew that edges on 100/50 would have sharper angle then of 90/75 BUT laws of physics still apply - given enough pressure (hence question re skate's weight) a longer (and this is what the second number represents - depth on the edge) but duller edge would still cut deeper then sharper, but shorter one? anyhow - complexities a side I'd like to know whether 100/50 would last nearly as long as 90/75 & 100/75?
  10. my feeling exactly, but 100/75 is just way too deep coming from 5/8... what I don't understand is how 100/50 would have more bite then 90/75? sure - the angle of the edges is sharper, but they just aren't deep at all?! curious if heavier skaters (200+ lbs) would actually do better on 90/75 due to the fact that edges are deeper & given the weight would dig better?
  11. if he was skating on 1/2 then 90/75 was definitely too shallow! I skated on 5/8, and tried 100/50 (see my post above) - felt nice, but only for a short period of time 100/50 feels pretty much exactly like 5/8 I'd imagine 90/75 would feel like 3/4 (seems to be right if you look at bite angle in the spreadsheet from flatbottomv site) but here's the kicker: I tried 100/75 - too much bite :( so by the look of things I might have to either convert back, or be stuck with 100/50 & sharpenning once a week - NOT something I was really looking into since I used to sharpen only once in blue moon :(
  12. this might very well be the case - I have heard it before (and it was already mentioned in this thread) that the first sharpenning over the old circular hollow isn't that great... good point - I'll try 100/50 for the second time & see where it takes me...
  13. after trying FBV for several hours I agree with what many said - really nice, but not mind blowing I went with 100/50 - the bite is about the same as 5/8 the problem that I have (which was echoed by a few people here - Chadd for instance) is that the edges definitely don't hold up as well the regular circular hollow... since the glide is quite nice I might try 100/75 - why not get the best of both worlds (glide + bite), plus maybe I wouldn't need to sharpen that often with a bit deeper hollow
  14. my understanding is that 100/75 from the bite angle alone is closer to 3/8 - not 1/2 just check yourself @ http://www.flatbottomv.com/technical_data.pdf
  15. fair enough - but at least was my line of though correct? I'm just not sure how 100/50 would actually offer more bite then let's say 90/75 - sure edges would a have a bit sharper angle, but they'd by 33% less deep?!
  16. sorry to repeat a question, but since I've got not answers here it goes anyways - what about 100/50? since it's right in between of 90/75 & 100/75 in terms of bite why aren't anybody mentioning it? more importantly why is everybody suggesting to move right up to 100/75 if 90/75 doesn't provide enough bite? to me it'd only sound logical to move 1 step up (instead of 2) in bite which from 90/75 (roughly 3/4 bite) would be 100/50 (roughly 9/16 bite) am I missing something?! or does 100/50 need to be refreshed more often because it's doesn't have pronounced enough edges (meanins they aren't very deep, despite that they're angled as 9/16 cut)?
  17. curious - did has anybody tried 100/50 & if so how was it in terms of bite?
  18. and One95 protective line will be released on April 10th as well? I thought somehow it'd be late march no?
  19. hopefully this wasn't in response to my question, but regardless a very insideful & meaningful comment - thank you for your valuable contribution! B)
  20. any early feedback on One95 girdle? other then the new liner what else is changed comparing with One90 girdle? is the protection still pretty minimalistic? if so then the weight is also pretty light? how does it compare with XXXX core pad?
  21. I'm second to that - this is exactly what I did converting 1500c to roller (didn't want to mess with drilling carbonfiber) - should probably post some pics here :) on the other hand there're people who did it themselves - just instead of riveting they used bolts...
  22. In fact by the end of the playoffs they all had it and I had come to find out they use a Triple Profile on all Players were the Penquins use only the double. There was some very interesting things there. Penguins (hardly anyone on Step and double profile) Redwings (all on Step and triple profiles) Triple profiles - is that different radii for the front, mid, and back of the blade? And, is it blended in by eye, or are there triple profile template bars? also what are the benefits of a triple profile?
