CCM 100k pro skates: early impressions
SolarWind replied to SolarWind's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Is it safe to say skipping eyelets is not necessary in 100k? If you had a chance to compare how does the experience in 100k maps to skating in a stiff boot like AS or 2S pro with top eyelet undone? -
CCM 100k pro skates: early impressions
SolarWind replied to SolarWind's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I have a history of ankle sprains dating back to high school 30+ years ago. So I do like extra stiff boots a LOT, and skipping the top eyelet allows me to not worry about not having good forward flex. And after almost 40 years of skating I don’t really expect it to change much lol I really like the idea behind 100k, as well as the overall design as it’s a very sharp yet conservatively looking skate. But as PBH said I totally suspect it’s going to be a love/hate type relationship, so without any demos available I’d certainly hate to fall on the wrong side of that coin after shelling all that dough on the skates. -
CCM 100k pro skates: early impressions

Thanks for the insight! since I’ve never had any experience with any of these 3 skates you used as a reference but have a pretty good idea of their core specs how would you compare stiffness of 100k with true? or any Bauer skates? -
CCM 100k pro skates: early impressions
SolarWind replied to SolarWind's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
That’s the thing: I specifically said several times “to each his own” to avoid Any generalizations! Nor I expressed any interest in receiving unsolicited advice on skating from ppl who never saw me skate. I referred to MY experience since for ME a certain level of stiffness is required. So all I was asking was to comment on the skate itself, and so far none of the posters shared anything in this regard. Most if not all posters apparently have never even seen the skate, so perhaps this thread should be closed since it’s clearly fallen off the rails. -
CCM 100k pro skates: early impressions
SolarWind replied to SolarWind's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Correct, that’s another way I’ve heard this referred by when the side of the skate is hitting the ice. Clearly not a very scientific use of the term. Maybe for some it’s a technique or strength issue, not trying to generalize, just referring to my personal experience. It’s been over a decade I’ve skipped the top eyelet and leveraged quite a bit of ankle flexion. Last time I had it happen constantly was with S15 once the glue gave out and they got really flimsy. It didn’t occur with my custom NSG (+1 stiffness) or 2s pro skates but they feel considerably stiffer than 100k. Total custom plus in Canada for these shares with blacksteel is almost $1600 so it’s a lot of $$$ to just roll the dice on! -
CCM 100k pro skates: early impressions
SolarWind replied to SolarWind's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
To each his own I guess. I’m not the heaviest guy out there but still over 200 LBs and flex my skates hard, so all things being equal I found that there is a certain level of support that is required. Otherwise the ankle flex toon angle becomes too sharp and the skate literally bottoms out kicking the edge out. It has nothing to do with balance or the edges. -
The new skates are slowly tricking into the stores and I was told some were fortunate to get the demos. curious if anyone had a chance to try 100k pro skates on ice? curious if the claims of agility holds up since up close there is nothing extraordinary re the skate’s build quality, plus squeezing the quarters they feel very soft… the latter is expected I guess but I’m curious if the skate bottoms out in hard turns or just feels flimsy when flexed hard?

Does CCM total custom plus allow for cosmetic changes to skates?
SolarWind replied to Vuronov's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Has the scanning process changed recently? There has been posts that the tower is no longer used so for total custom plus is the mold of the foot still printed and used to shape the skate around it? also for 100k skates what are the options for changing stiffness? Can the bottom stiffness be increase separately from the top? thanks! -
CCM P46 seems quite similar to Bauer P14, and given that P14 is a more of a toe curve neither P88 or P28 feel the same as these are mid curves. I really miss P14, by far my favourite curve! Why the heck did Bauer have to get rid of it vs simply renaming it it Toews has fallen out of popularly?!

I’ve been on Step Blacksteel for several years now and feel strongly that it provides better glide than black edge steel, which in turn provided better glide than LS4 steel. something else must be off, probably longer profile on the old blades or something (step blacksteel is 10’ neutral profile as far as I know)?

Do keep us posted since they say there is multiple level of stiffness - retail, pro and extra stiff or something like that. however given that retain one-piece skates are already stiffer they two-piece even Jetspeeds are stiffer than Ultrasonics and Vapors...

"if it ain't broken don't fix it", we as parents tend to overthink things quite a bit when it comes to our kids, even when there is no objective reasons to do so. @ 18 yo a player generally develops pretty good awareness of their preferences, I'd not mess with it. Look @ McDavid ignoring last 3 generations of skates & still skating in original JetSpeeds which are Much softer than the current versions of FT2/FT4 pros... As everyone already commented on 2S Pros are plenty stiff even for very large strong men, so unless completely neglected there is just no way they would become 'too soft' for an 18 yo after a year and a half.

Interesting find. Carbon is stiffer and stronger than fibreglass, which explains why Tacks are stiffer than Jetspeeds & Ribcores. Makes me wonder what they do at the factory for Total Custom orders when a customer asks for the same stiffness on the latter as the former? Change the material or just layer it thicker?

I’m too interested in 100k skates, but there are only 2 brief reviews on YouTube since skates are only coming up in July. Since I’ve been in extra stuff custom Bauer skates for the past decade I’m concerned about the potential lack of stiffness in Ribcor as well, too bad there is no demos in any LHSes anymore… There is a lot of hype building up since it’s the first one piece skate in Ribcore line, so let’s hope CCM hits it out of the ballpark!

That much I know, I’ve used it for the last 10 years lol just curious what these advantages and disadvantages are.

Hopefully a quick one gents: before getting Bauer customs about 10 years ago I spent years in incorrectly sizzled skates (size 9 both feet vs 8.25L/8.5 in customs) so I was used to size 280 holder. Based on the new size Bauer was originally going to put the standard 272 on them but I requested 280 just to keep things the same. it’s time for new skates now so I’m wondering: are there any actual benefits to having longer holder? Same length of the steel on the ice anyways. As opposed to draw back coz the towers are spread further away from the centre of my foot? If someone could share their experience experimenting with holder sizes (whether it’s upsizing or downsizing) would be much appreciated!

Thanks for the detailed explanation Pucks! didn't realize True was reinventing the wheel so much with their holder?! comparing @ the store side by side it looked lower, but it might be misleading if the foot sits lower in it. what I found surprising was that Chara skips the top eyelet in his Trues, but I don't recall him ever doing it in Bauers he was all these years before switching to True?! does anyone else around here skip top eyelet in Trues? I've always been doing it in Supremes but was under the impression Trues flex differently so skipping isn't required? -

Thanks a Lot for the detailed response pucks! Given the state most LHSes are nowadays due to covid I feel bad getting them through extra work white TF9s just to try the holders out (picking the size, baking, sharpening and then returning back)... wish they just had some demos or something 😞 -

what was so different about Shifts that you had to revert back to Tuuks? Was that a height of the holder or the pitch or something else? Looking at holders side by side they seem very similar in terms of height/pitch but it obviously impossible to confirm without skating on it so any further insight would be appreciated. From what I gather a lot of riveting issues stem from swapping holders (especially if re-drilling is involved & of course LHS is a whole wild card in of itself) and the factory does a decent job installing Shifts. So I was hoping to avoid this issue altogether if somehow I can make Shifts work. Too bad there are no demos available anywhere and it's not possible to "try before you buy" so as others said I very much hope True still supports other major holders. -

No thanks, that thread existed since the beginning of time and is really about “everything and the kitchen sink” for True skates. My question is specific to the durability of the current version and any publicly available info re any upcoming upgrades. -

SolarWind replied to dsjunior1388's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Apologies if it's been already covered, the search didn't reveal anything relevant so here it goes: I've been looking at custom True skates for a while, but the concerns around their durability (specifically rivets getting lose sometimes on a monthly basis) held me back. Now that my current skates are falling apart I'd like to pull the trigger but curious if anyone can comment on the quality/durability of the recent True customs - have the issues been resolved? Also any thoughts on the new Shift holder vs Tuuk LightSpeed would be appreciated as well with regards to height/pitch/flex? Lastly if anyone is in the know are there any dramatic improvements/re-design coming down the pipe any time soon? Thanks! -
I had +1 on my skates (Bauer, tuuk holder) for the last decade, it felt more athletic but as I’m getting older I’m finding it a bit much especially when skating backwards. But even on forward stride/crossovers feels a bit too much on my toes, front of the blade is always ready to dig in which is only useful for running starts. So I plan to switch to neutral on my my next skate.

Are rivers still falling out from True skates (and other one piece boots) on a monthly basis?
-
Has anyone figured out how to trim them to size if you buy a bigger size? My skates are custom so they have 1/4 size

That's right any excessive heel movement causes the body to build the protective mechanism in the form of a calcified callus if your heel is moving up/down with superfeet then speedplates would only make it worse since they don't have 3mm raised heel like the superfeet do. you need to re-bake ur 1x one skate at a time and compress the crap out of the boot around your ankle to ensure the proper lock!
