So I'll be the one who asks...

I'm a Sparx owner. What's the benefit to me as a player to go back to a manual sharpening?

Personally I think pointing out the differences between the two are kind of moot. I would think 95+ of Sparx users go that route for convenience and cost savings, and until manual sharpening provides a much greater than tangible benefit, there’s no need to switch. The average youth and adult player is likely not to notice a discernible difference between the two.
I prefer a manual sharpening because I own my own machine and have been doing it for just under 25 years. But the Sparx owners I know have 3-5 players in the house skating in some fashion 7 days a week. Convenience is king.

After thinking I escaped this problem with my True AX9 shaft that I use for roller, I’ve noticed the grip becoming an issue. For those who spray painted it, did you use solvent to strip the finish beforehand? If so, just acetone and a rag? For those that sprayed it, what specific spray paint did you use?

I used liquid citrustrip and it basically left me with a non grip True stick once cleaned up.
did the same with a Warrior and it took the decals clean off with it. So be careful and also prepared.

edit; when I say liquid I mean this, not the spray stuff

I was always curious what Oakley’s strategy with those gloves was.  They had visors, but they didn’t do hardgoods in any other sport so it just seemed odd to target hockey.  There were a fair number of NHL guys that wore them (I’m guessing paid).  Maybe someone on here who was in the business at that time knows.

They (gloves) were Canadian made, not sure by whom. My guess is they wanted their name visible on gear, so between gloves, helmets, pants and sticks, it was the most financially reasonable piece.

  4. Strength training is all well and good, but throw in a decent amount of plyo and explosive movements as well. I think I'd focus 66-75% of workouts to lower body/back, but that's just me. And ALWAYS make the time to properly warm up and stretch, stretch, stretch. Make sure your diet can handle the increased workload and muscle mass too.

This YouTube page has some great routines to help an aspiring hockey player. Good luck!!

  5. You pay shipping (from 53129), I’m purging the basement stash and hoping people can put some stuff to use

Belle Tire AAA Warrior bag, senior size. Used, some rips, but lots left in it. Haven’t seen too many this style

APX2 boots only. Size 7 C/AAA, the plastic guard on both tongues have horizontal cracks. One tendon guard is cracked, but the fabric around it is good enough that you do t notice unless you flex it with your hands. Holes for 272 Tuuks.
would be decent for a more novice player who isn’t rough on their skates, or someone who wants to do a tongue swap project.

TotalOne Reflex tongue inserts, X Stiff, brand new

  6. As Mark said, don’t get frustrated, the more you improve, the worse you’ll feel you are because you’ll recognize you can do better. But enjoy playing while you do.

if I could give you any advice, it’s that 98% of the things you do on the ice stem from how well you skate. So take every chance you get to work on skating, strength and flexibility. Take every power skating opportunity you can. Utilize a little stick and puck session and before/after practice to throw in some skating drills.

Michigan moves are cool and all but guys can pull those off because they’re fundamentally sound.
