I realize you're a big fan of tsr, but I believe that you're paying an upcharge for pro colors, and on those gloves, perhaps the gussets. I think you're fooling yourself if you think there's any significant difference. And btw, I can stitch samsonov's name on a custom order and make a replica of his gloves too. And in case you haven't noticed, that's what tsr does with most of their pro colored Bauer gloves.
-
That's the important thing. There's a lot of times that people seem to get hung up on the words "pro stock" thinking that its superior and here's a case where there's really no difference.
-
Well, other than the color (red, instead of black) on the back of the hand and the printing that says dri-fit and vapor xxxx pro on the inside on the retail ones, there doesn't appear (or feel) to me to be any difference in the material used on the TSR ones that you're calling pro-stock. It's dry-fit on the TSR ones too. Read the eBay listing you posted. So I think that when it comes to TSR vapor XXXX gloves vs. Retail pro xxxx gloves, it comes down to the color, unless you've got a different palm or gussets. I think if you had several examples of each glove in front of you (like I do) you'd probably agree with me.
-
I can only do so much on an iPad.... As far as the retail xxxx pros and the pro stock ones coming from tsr, I own both and other than the color variations, am not sure there's much of a difference. I have pro stock ones that are exactly the same as the retail pros. I also have ones that have Nash gussets instead of the elastic. But other than that, I'm not sure it's worth quibbling over.

It seemed clear to me that I was backing you up. You told him what he doesn't have. I told him what he does have. Jeeze.

I think you'll find that you've got these..... Good glove. Not pro stock. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CB0QtwIwAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Defy3CNymoSI&ei=bSGOTar-NMHYgQfKw8WfDQ&usg=AFQjCNFKUAgqhXP1aJhAJPAHGXwM1dfOVw

I like the look too, but honestly, having played with both the custom cuffs and the blooming cuff, I think the blooming cuff is actually more mobile. Or certainly a tie, and so unless you really like the look, its $50 you could save. But then again, if you're paying that much anyway, get the cuff you like. Also, I think you can see in this picture that the cuffs really aren't much shorter, if at all. The one on the left is the Savard cuff. The blooming cuff is on the right. The cuffs do alter the geometry of the glove though, as I think you can see. -

Well, hopefully having a thread with pictures of what these cuffs actually are and how they work will help people decide whether they want to pay the upcharge. Frankly, I like the way the one piece cuffs look. But I just don't think they actually work better for me, therefore I won't pay that upcharge again. But I didn't know until I tried. -

Yes, I'm aware. I have a pair of his Eagles too. The explanation isn't necessarily just for you, by the way. As for whether it lends itself to any additional wrist mobility, I tend to agree with you. The Savard gloves are short enough that they're very mobile, but the ones with the bit longer cuff are less mobile than the blooming cuff they're now using. I know that people pay more for the other cuffs because they look cool (I admit, I was one of them), but having used both, I found the blooming cuff more mobile and wouldn't pay the upcharge for the Savard cuff unless I was also going to get it shortened too. -

The Hossa cuff and the Savard cuff are two different cuffs. This is the Savard, because it is actually a pair of Savard's gloves: and ironically (since you used that word), here is the same cuff on a pair of Derek Morris's gloves. Savard's actual cuff is slightly shorter than Morris's, but it is the same cuff design. Whatever Warrior actually calls it, what I can tell you is that if you contact Joe from Warrior and tell him that you want the Savard or the Hossa, he knows exactly what you're talking about. And the Hossa is different. Uclahockey707 has that one on his Red Franchises. The major difference is on the inside of the wrist. -
Black India Ink and a thin brush is going to look a lot better than a sharpie will. A sharpie will end up looking purple and leaving a visible line and it wears off the thread quickly, but not off the tufftek. India Ink won't. I agree about the number font. The last pair I did, I did Black numbers on Black (on the Creepers, somewhere in this thread). Nice gloves, by the way. I like the black gussets on the black gloves. Did that on the last pair of Franchises I did and on the Creepers.

Yeah, just like that. LOL. Along with maybe a recommendation of which of those would be a good place to start.
-
Yeah, as much as I've tried to keep track of this 143 page thread that this has been merged into, I don't think its been addressed. I know there are guys here who probably just know this stuff off the top of their head though.... I'd ask, "If you're 190 and skating on good, hard ice, then this is a good grind to start with. If it bites too much, then try this.... If it doesn't bite enough, then try this..... if the ice is softer, then try this..... " I think that would be helpful to dummies like me who want to know but just don't have anyone to ask.
-
Me neither. Realizing that skate hollows are pretty subjective, depend on the ice condition, etc, but also that not a lot of people really understand what flat bottom grind really works best without a lot of trial and error, it would be interesting if there was a basic guideline to get somebody started. If I'm a decent skater, weigh 190 and am playing in two rinks that are totally different surfaces, (one hard, one pretty soft), what should I be looking to do? I'm fine with having different blades for each rink. And I have to admit that I have no idea, which is why I'm asking

At one point TSR was selling Bauer 4 Rolls in Winter Classic Brown. I have a pair. They're nice.
-
"Minnesota Pro Style" with Navy Tufftek and White classic cuff roll and side guards. Golden Yellow bindings. Matches my Michigan Wolverines style jersey pretty well.

I wouldn't worry about the peanut gallery.... this thread is 141 pages long! Get what you want and post the pics. Most of us are interested!

Thanks. I went with the plastic inserts on the Creepers. The digital palm cost the same as the performance palms, I just selected kangaroo, but made a notation in the comments section to substitute the digital palm. I liked the pearl mustang for a palm, but when they went to the yellow mustang I had poor results and started using the digital.

These are a pair of Marc Savard's, and they're much closer fitting than the Creepers I just had made. These are obviously a couple seasons old though. Its too bad, because I was looking to update this pair.
-
Not really "custom" but to answer the earlier question about what some india ink, a pair of AK27s and a whole lot of time and patience looks like: I haven't taken them out on the ice yet. Need to get over the fear of leaving a black ink trail across the ice.... Custom 14 inch Creepers: Black Tufftek, Carbon full cuff roll and middle stripe, digital palms and black gussets. I was surprised the thumbs came in yellow and not in white - I have the same exact color combination on a pair of franchises, but the thumbs came out white. As I said before, I was a little surprised at the volume on these gloves. They're much roomier than I expected. I was expecting closer to the X:60 glove in fit. Frankly, these are bigger than my narrow Franchises and are pretty close to standard Franchises. Anatomical? Not so sure. I actually prefer the fit of the AK27. If only they would make those in this color scheme....
-
TSR Hockey in Salem, NH. Or Al's Pro Stock Hockey on ebay.
-
Very nice collection. Let me ask you, how do you find the volume on your custom Creepers? I just ordered and received a pair and I find them to be surprisingly roomy for a supposedly more anatomical glove. I have a older pair of Marc Savard Creepers and they're cut more narrowly - which had a lot to do with how I thought the custom Creepers would fit. By comparison, my Creepers are closer in size to the standard Franchises, definitely roomier than the narrow Franchises. I have to say, I'd have liked the Creepers to fit a little tighter. How do you find yours?
-
Contact them and ask. I got my pair in Vancouver Blue Tufftek, and it isn't on the customizer either. All I did was ask nicely.
-
I used India Ink too. And I think that it would be very difficult to work it around Warrior on the cuff. I think it would bleed and run. And that's why I didn't do my cuff roll or the thumb. But the rest of it ended up black.
