  1. I spoke with Easton prior to baking them in order to confirm that the Ortholite footbeds in the Mako II did in fact need to be removed prior to baking (which they do). During that conversation the rep said to tighten them at 50%, which is what I did. As I stated previously, other than the arches the skates baked well and fit fantastic.
  2. It's funny you should mention this. During one of my phone conversations with Easton the rep said the exact same thing. He said to tie them with 50% to 60% of the tension I was using. I did just that but to no avail. I can only hope that future renditions of the Mako II will offer a boot which extends the heat moldable quarter panels a bit lower down where I need it. I'll try the suggestions above, but given the nature of the pain I'm a bit skeptical it will make enough of a difference to allow me to keep them. As a side note, last night I put my Supreme One100's on and walked around the house for quite a while. I'll be honest, they felt great :-/
  3. I've watched that video several times and followed the directions (heating up that area and pressing it out). However the pain persists. When I have the skates on I can see and feel that the area causing the pain is beneath the area that can be and was punched out. It lines up directly with the carbon composite part of the boot.
  4. I'll give it a shot. I'd hate to give up on the skates cause other than the arches I love everything else about them.... including the forward pitch. I even came to the determination that should I go back to my Supremes I'll probably have some heel lifts installed to mimic that aggressive pitch.
  5. It's possible, but the high point of the arch in the boot hits right up against the highest part of my arch. It would seem that moving forward or backwards would make the pain worse.
  6. I don't believe that I have an accessory navicular bone. I've never had a problem in any other skates and I measure as a medium arch on the CCM arch measuring plate. It just seems like the arch in the Mako skate is just too high for me. I'll try the foam doughnut to see if it helps.
  7. I've been in a pair of Mako 2's for three weeks now. Got fitted for the right size and had them baked at a LHS per the instructions on the box (10 minutes). The skates feel great when seated but my arches are killing me while standing, walking and skating. I tried spot heating the arches with a heat gun but unfortunately the part that I need to press out is the actual carbon composite boot form, not the heat moldable quarter. I called Easton and they confirmed that the carbon composite monocoque boot form is not heat moldable. I've also tried Yellow Superfeet, which I use in my Supreme One100's. They take up way too much volume and regardless they don't alleviate the arch pain. I love everything else about the skates. I had no problems adapting to the forward pitch coming from LS 2 holders. But with the arch pain I can only skate for about 20-30 minutes before the pain is unbearable. Has anyone else had a similar experience and been able to overcome it?
  8. I definitely noticed the advantages to FBV. However when it's not done correctly (ie, uneven edges) the results are disastrous (as stated above by others). My problem is I can't always find someone like JR to sharpen my skates therefore sometimes they don't come out even. This has lead me to buy my own edge checker. Now everytime I have my skates sharpened I hold on to the receipt (which indicates who sharpened them) and check the results myself. If a particular person did a poor job I know who it was and avoid them in the future.
  9. I tried FBV (100/50 as I normally skate on 9/16 ROH). I liked it but as stated above FBV is not forgiving if not done correctly (ie, uneven edges). My issue was that sometimes it was done right (by JR) and sometimes it wasn't (when done by others at RDV). I switched back to ROH because it's more forgiving of uneven edges.
