Ok here's what goin on. I posted a while back about buying a new pair of gloves. Well, apparently, my high school is going to get the teams custom gloves and new helmets. Now i have cash and since I only use one pair of gloves, have decided to use it on some skates.

The problem: I don't know whether to keep saving the money I've saved for gloves, and get some high end skates (like XXXs, Flexlite 12s, 8ks, or something) or spend the money I have now and just get a pair of the Nikes or the Vectors.

How competitive is the hockey you are playing? What skates do you currently use?

I'm currently using CCM 852s

The games get pretty competitive. There are a few big rivalries between some of the schools around here. In the off season, I play for a pretty competetive travel team.

get the v-12 if it fits for you and you like it. The "newer, better" skates aren't worth the money.

Not starting an argument..but why do you say this? Unless you have demo'd the product, that is purely a hype comment. Unless of course you have tried them..?

I think what he was getting at was that for the most part, a top model skate from a year ago on closeout has a better price/performance ratio that the brand new stuff from this year, which is for the most part not significantly different.

I've worn vapor XX and quest v-12. I guess I can't judge on the XXX and synergy, but honestly, if they were that revolutionary, people would say how much better than the XX they are.

..and that's understandable. I see where you're coming from :)

If you do go with the Nikes, then get the V-force. They have the stiffest boot out of the Nikes available.

Try to get the Flexlite V10...Mission L5...Pro tack(03 or 04)...but please don't get the Vector...durabillity is shit!!!really bad...Tack are way better..Only thing i like about Vector is the lace lock(really...maybe the design is cool...but oh well)

In my opinions...last year model(closeout) or ''one step-lower model''(i.e: Flexlite v10 compared to Flexlite V12) are the best performance/price ratio!!!

I use 1152 tack (02) paid half price(350CND) because it was last year model...2 year i use them..and still nice!!

if you need a pair of skates very soon, then go for the cheaper top end models from last season, but if you can hold out, see if you can try out the current top end skates and see what you like. IMO, if you don't need to buy a skate right away, you might as well see if something interests you down the road when you really do need a skate

If you're using 852s, I'd go with the 8Ks. I bought them about 2 weeks ago and they fit like a glove. Very lightweight, probably not as light as the XXXs but they're no slouch either. They're solid skates and don't seem like you'll need a new pair after a few months.

Try looking around for a deal. I got my XX's for like $400CAN because of a cosmetic blem. And really it doesn't affect the skates performance so hey!

I was in your predicament, then an Idea hit me that I should spend half on skates and half twards college. At the time I had $500 so I baught $250 skates and put $250 into savings. Unless your getting a full ride or not going to college I'd save some for education.

I would avoid the vectors, but that's just me. The new Tacks like the 892 are an affordable option and seem to offer more features than the comparably priced Vector. Keep in mind the skate and free stick deals will be coming up in another month or so.

Try on a bunch of stuff and see what fits your foot best then go from there.
