Helmet Question

Recommended Posts

I am looking for a new helmet....... I have a pretty wide head (5000 and quest really hurt the sides of my head), and was looking at the bauer 8000, and the ccms because I heard they fit wide...How are Itech's width wise? What other helmets would be good?

Get an 8K. They're adjustable front to back and around the sides. Not to mention it's really light.

The adjustmenton the RBK 8k isn't much more than a strap. The Itech 90 is pretty round, the 95 is a bit narrow and the 100 is somewhere between the two.

I have the same problem. The only helmet that didn't bother me was the 4000. I'm getting close to needing a new lid so I tried on the 8K and it seemed to be alright on my giant mellon for the 5 minutes I had it on.

My friend got an 8k, and It was nice...Is the wheel in the back of the helmet the width adjuster?

Yup. It makes the helmet tighter or looser around your head.

The 4000 is fairly narrow compared to the 5000 or 8000.

Really? I had 2 5000's and both were very tight in the temple area.

That's the biggest complaint most people I know have about the 4000.

Strange. I guess it really depends on the shape of your head. I tried 2 5000's before I got tired of them hurting I cut padding out and everything. The 4000 was so comfortable that I thought about just getting another one before I tried the 8k.

Look at the bright side, I have a friend who can't wear anything other than the old Jofa light bulb.

What do you use to cut the padding out a knive? cause my ccm 652 feels fine untill i close the cage on it. it gets really tight on my temples and i thought about cutting the padding but i don't want to ruin the helmet.

Perhaps it isn't the helmet, but the cage then. Obviously, the first thing I'd check is the straps to make sure that you don't have them too tight (i.e., pulling the cage into you).

But, often some players grab the wrong sized cage. Also, if you've recently changed helmets (ESPECIALLY switching from one manufacturer to another), a cage that fit perfectly well before might not fight as well on the new bucket.

Just thinking out loud.

oddly enough my buddy just had a carbster fit him the best...getting the right cage was the issue...ended up with a true

Man its all about trying them on...no ifs ands or buts

I used a hobby knife to cut the padding but as mentioned, it sounds like your problem might be the cage.

The cage is an itech RBE III large and the helmet is a large ccm 652. I might go back to the bauer 4000 or try the nike 0004. I've never had a problem with bauer i just got a good deal on the ccm so i took it.

My son had a problem with his 652, it was too tight above the ears. I heated the sides with a heat gun on low, then I squeezed it slightly (front to back) in a big woodworking clamp till it cooled. Had to re-adjust the length, but he says it feels great ever since.

Didn't have a problem with his 852 btw.
