most exciting non-nhlers

Recommended Posts

somebody mentioned simon gamache in another thread and it got me thinking. who do you think are the most exciting players not playing in the nhl? obviously nobody is playing in the nhl this year, but i mean normally. a guy like spezza doesn't count. i'm thinking of guys who have spent pretty much their entire careers (so far) in the minors or in europe. i'll throw out kyle wellwood of the baby leafs/marlies. tons of offensive talent, a great shot, and he's only 5'10. (as the smallest kid in school pretty much until college, i have a thing for short players.) i'm also thinking of pavel rosa, who's been a dominating scorer everywhere but the nhl. i'd like to hear your opinions.

Maxim Sushinsky out of the RSL.

Francis Charette out of Rimouski.

Slava Trukhno from the Q.

Eric Fehr from Brandon.

Robbie Schremp

And all the super obvious ones, Crosby, Malkin, Lehtonen, etc.

i think many of you guys missed the point, hes talking about minor league superstars that either cant cut it at the next level or who dont seem to get a shot...

id have to say myself. im 6'4" 235lbs, i can skate, shoot, (im not a skilled dangler)pass, and i love to fight. in fact last night at drop in (mostyl jr players and such) i got into a nasty tilt. me and some dude dropped em, i skated as quick as i could to the center circle and tossed both elbow pads and the lid off, let em fly, man it was great. when i play and people pay to come to the games i make it worth their money, i mean come on now, these people spend money they worked for, also SPHL try outs are in the works

If we are going to go for Minor league guys/European guys, I'll go again:

Pavel Rosa (if he played any D at all, he would be amazing)

Maxim Sushinsky (just a huge dangler)

Bruno Gervais (out of like the SPHL or CHL I think)

And to whoever said KT, good thinking, he's a killer out there.

The players who create the most excitement are bad defensemen. Without them giving up breakaways and odd man rushes the game isn't as much fun.

How small is he really? I've heard 5' flat, to 5'5".

Joe will be in New York when the NHL plays again.

As far as the discussion goes.....I'd throw out Alex Perezhogin's name (yes, the stick swinger).

He played in the Russian Super League this year (for Avangard). He didn't lead the league in scoring or anything, but for a 20 year old he had a strong season.

GP G A Pts PIM +/-

43 15 18 33 18 +14

BTW, 47Pts led the league...so he was up there.

I'm assuming these are his Playoff numbers:

GP G A Pts PIM +/-

9 2 2 4 8 0

Terrance Tootoo! The older brother of Nashville Predators winger Jordin Tootoo. Every shift you knew someone was going to get hit very very hard. Unfortunately he shot himself because of some serious personal problems. He played for the Roanoke Express of the ECHL for only a short time, but was easily the favorite of that team. He might have made the NHL if he was bigger and had more control while he was on the ice. He took bad penalties but goaded the other team into at least twice what he racked up. He was a spark plug!! So much fun to watch and root for.

I hope Jordin makes the right choices and honors his brother's memory with a good career in hockey.

I watch TooToo play alot here in Milwaukee. He is pretty scrappy, but not much offense and his penalties are sometimes careless.

For my money, the two most exciting guys to watch on the Milwaukee Admirals are Simon Gamache (And he is brilliant) and Darren Haydar, two very skilled non-nhl-ers.

I attended two games of the Memorial Cup and there were many amazing talents. Besides the obvious answer of Sidney Crosby, who is simply amazing, I would have to say that Danny Fritsche, who has NHL experience with Columbus, and Robbie Schremp, who most OHL fans would already know of, are two very skilled players who didn't dissapoint despite my high expectations. Danny Syvret is one of the most talented D-men I have seen in junior and was very sound positionally. I'm not much of a Perry fan and I think he is slightly overrated because of the way the team has been built around him over the past four years but regardless he is another great player who has a lot of offensive upside and could turn into a Hull type. Francis Charette of Rimouski pulled off some nice dangles but I see no future for him in pro hockey, which is unfortunate. The only other name that springs to mind is Jozef Balej of the Hartford Wolfpack who showed great offensive skill while playing in Hamilton.
