Bauer 8090's at HockeyGiant for $199.99

Recommended Posts

Just a heads up - I was over at the store in Anaheim today and they have '04 8090's for 200 bucks. Not too bad, IMO. I asked the guy why they were priced that low and he said it was because they are trying to get rid of the '04 stock for the '05's.

EDIT - the ones I asked about and tried on were SR's. I'm not sure how much the junior model was going for.

Yeah i noticed they had LS1s in the catalog too. But in a proshop at a rink we played at out of state(forget where) they had them with LS2s.

Is that just an instore special, or is the deal available online?

Not sure....I didn't ask. Sorry :(

But there isn't a difference between the 04 and 05...in the cat they have LS1s on them.

I don't think the kid who I was talking to knew that....maybe HockeyGiant doesn't even know that...lol.

Something of note about the 8090's -

I put the right skate on, and when I stood up, I heard a loud "click." It came from the holder. When I took the skate off, I looked at it and tried to make the noise happen again but couldn't.

Also, the outsole seemed to be put together kinda poorly. It looked like it could rip right off the boot.

Maybe I'm just used to my 4000's and Comp's which are durable as hell.

Have there been any problems with the 8090's? I was thinking of just putting a pair of them on my credit card but that crack and the outsoles scared me away...lol.

The bolt probably needs tightening.

As far as the outsole, it's probably the cleanest skate BNH offers right now. I haven't seen any craftsmanship issues with 8090 as far as the boot is concerned. Define "poorly." Gaps?

there is glue showing and gaps showing on my 8090s also, nothing that is going to affect the skate's performance and life at all.

Ls1 vs. Ls2....so at that price vs the 05 price you're paying an extra 150 usd for a magnetized bolt and slightly better steel.

This is what I was talking about.

Ls1 vs. Ls2 shouldn't matter. if the Ls1 steel break you can swap it for Ls2 steel. The skate itself hasn't changed.....

RJ, any I understand the 8090's are oddballs when it comes to sizing.

Right now I'm wearing 10.5 EE S400's that aren't working out for me. Any idea what size that would translate to in the 8090? From what I've read here the 8090 is wide & deep fitting which is what I need, but there's really nowhere around to try them on.

okay, i think i may have a friend in cali pick up a pair for me. someone check my guess sizing math for this: right now i'm wearing 13e bauer 5000s which are kinda roomy even with thick socks on. i'm pretty sure i can wear a 12.5 (if they made one). i can wedge my foot into a size 12 vapor xv, but there's no way i could skate long with them on. i think its possible that a 12d 8090 would be pretty much a good fit? i know i should try them on to be sure, but no one in indiana stocks 12s and they won't order without paying for it (not that i blame them). anyone?

I'd guess you would be ok with the 12D 8090 if you have a bunch of room in the 5000 with heavy socks on. Try pushing your foot forward in the 5000 with the boot unlaced and see how much room you have behind your heel. If you have much room in there it shouldn't be a problem. Going from a heavy sock to a thin sock, or even barefoot, can change your skate size by a half size or more.

standing up with my foot shoved all the way forward with thin socks on i have about 1/2" of room in one skate and 3/4" in the other. i think i can do it. thanks for the help.

i don't know if this is an issue with you or not, but i have wide feet and i find that with the 8090's, my feet can fit farther forward, since there's room for the forefoot width. with narrower skates, i used to have to buy a bigger size, since the toe of the skate was too narrow for my entire foot to go into, so in my experience, i need a smaller size in 8090's than other skates i've been fitted into

the 8090 is a very solid boot. i was told that a president of another company said thats the best boot made for durability and performance
