I don't think they are available for purchase. I'm sure THC patented them for use on hockey skates. You may be able to fing them from some boot or shoe manufacturer. I suggest checking the used skate rack at the local PIAS and see if you can find a pair of jr Vector 4's for cheap and just revove them. Then sell the skates back.

It is definitely not a patented item...These exact type laces have been used in hiking shoes for years...Kudos to CCM for bring it to the hockey market. I actually really like the concept...

I am sure you can find them online somewhere, it may just take a bit of searching...

i took mine off of my vectors, worst idea ever imo.

I think it was a great idea. You can keep your bottom part of your laces loose and the upper part tight to you liking or vice versa.

I can see some ppl liking them, but i've worn the 8k skates in a demo and the lace lock was the biggest pain in the ass ever. I've never felt lace bite before, and for me to have to adjust woulda be a hassle in a game.

But hey, if you like it, thats wonderful.

When I tried on a pair of the Vector 7.0 skates I personally hated the lace locks. I just found them to be annoying and if I want to keep my skates tight i just back lace them.

I've never used the Reebok lace clip, but if I understand how it works I think there are skate designs that might replicate its function. I honestly doubt ours is the only one with this feature, but its the only one I have a picture of, so I've included it below.

If you look just below the top lace, which is actually the third eyelet down, there is a notch in the skate's material. This isn't quite as pronounced as on the previous version of Salming skates, so I don't think it works quite as well as it used to, but it somewhat separates the foot portion of the skate from the ankles. Particularly if waxed laces are used, the player can really tighten the lower laces, while the ankles can be somewhat looser.

Without having used the lace clip, I suspect that is one of its purposes, and you might have good success if you were to find skates with a similar notch.

Of the hundreds of vectors, rbk's and now tacks that I've sold with the locks, haven only had 1 adult who didn't like them. And 1 mom who had a tough time taking them off. I've personally have tied and untied a couple of hundred times while putting them on kids, and don't have any problems myself. I can tell you it has definately been a selling point, and often the tie-breaker.

I love mine!!

The only thing is they sometimes get stuck.

Can't dock them points for that though. No skate is perfect.

Nice skates Salming!

When are you coming to Canada?! :D

Thanks, Sniper.

We are in Canada already. Mark County is the distributor out of Toronto: Salming Canada. You can email him at info@salmingcanada.com to find out what stores carry the products or, if you're in Toronto, go to the Hall of Fame, because you can see our products there.

Based on a transaction another MSH member had with him, if you tell him you were referred by me, I believe he'll match the discount I've offered to MSH members.

Some of the kids around here think it's the only way to have variable tension in your laces. Then I show them my skates. I backlace and they are floppy and loose at the front of my foot and a little more tight at the base of the ankle to lock my foot in place. The only down side is you can really destroy cheap eyelets that way.

Thanks for the tip Salming.

But the S&H would be too much for me to buy something I couldn't try on.

No offence they are awsome looking skates and I am sure they perform well but I am really picky about my equip.

Are you planning on coming to western Canada soon?

What about distribution through LHS's??

I know Mark has been talking to retailers in Vancouver.

We're also working on something which will bring us to the major western cities, but it's not final. When it happens, I'll post about it, because I'm guessing some MSH members in those cities might like to participate.

Well just for my interest:

I wear a 9(Wide) in shoes, which is a 7.5 in CCM's

What would that be in a Salming ?

Zak, I think our sizes run larger than the same size number for CCM. My best guess, based on some friends who have bought, is a 7E, maybe a 6.5E if you like them really tight.

Hockeypunk, the G10 would be easily available at the MSH discount off the eBay price, but you'd either have to contact Salming Canada to see if he has any stores near you or you might have to wait until the event I alluded to before having a chance to try on the skates.

Better act fast there are over 10 pairs  on ebay for $150

That is a crying shame! :D
