Weighted end plugs...

Recommended Posts

If it's just a small amount, you can use lead tape under your cloth tape. Most golf specialty stores should have it. When I was a kid I used to get lead sinkers for fishing that came in a matchbook. Something like that would work under the tape as well as they were very easy to shape and mold.

is there such a thing? if not, is there a DIY fix? I need to balance out my redlight with a wood blade

I'd suggest the Oggie Grip.

I spoke about it in another thread. I absolutely love them. They create harder shots; the inventor has been radar measuring and guys have been averaging between a 2-3 MPH increase. If your hand is small to medium, they'll give you a tighter grip -- I never get the stick knocked out of my hand anymore.

According to my shipping scale, they weigh .2 pounds, would place them around 3.5 ounces. Since you might be cutting off some stick length, you won't get all that weight as a counterbalance, but you could place tape on the Grip to create more of a balance.

I'm well aware these are radical, but I've been using them since the Vegas show (early February) and I swear by them.

When I was kid, one of my friends went McGuyver and hollowed out some of the wood endplug, melted something (I dunno, lead maybe......his dad had a little toolshop in his basement) and filled it in.

Even ABS blades felt light in that shaft :P

try hollowing out the end plug and filling with lead. you can use sinkers whole or use a torch and melt it down. to prevent teh weight from shifting use an epoxy resin to cover the hole. be sure of the amount of weight you put as you only get one shot with the end plug and epoxy. good luck

we had some of the oggie stuff in the shop... i liked the foam sticky things that go under your tape, but the curved endplug thing i didnt like. It felt good without gloves on, but i felt it was more difficult to move the stick around with it when gloves were on.

Edge,

Are you referring to the "stickiness" when the gloves contact the rubber of the grip? If so, I know some guys have put tape where they hold the grip to counteract that. If you're referring to the "lip" on the grip, I think he's working on a version that would minimize the lip for players who like to hold their pinkies off the knob.

The sticky foam definitely was popular at the display at the Chowder Cup

Does anyone know of any stores that carry these? They look pretty cool and might work. But I want to try them first. I also hold my pinky off the end of my knob but the classic pattern looks almost like I tape my shafts.

I mean in Canada esspecially BC or Alberta?

He has a Dealer Locator on his website: Oggie Grip. I don't want to speak for him, but I also think he'll let people buy at the website if there is no retailer nearby.

You might not find the Classic Grip at all the dealers, because he just finished testing and is going into production. I think he has some inventory, but the retailers probably don't have much, if any.

Jason at Salming is correct. The Classics are in production as we speak. Very positive feedback from our product testers thus far. They should be available in 4 to 5 weeks.

Although the grips very lightweight and are not weighted end plugs, they are hollow on the inside. It would be interesting to see someone put lead in the hollow to increase the weight. Tape should probably then be placed over the end to keep the lead from falling out before it's inserted into the stick. If someone does this, please let me know how it works out for you.

Thanks,

Joe

not really the stickness, but it felt like I couldn't move my wrists as much. It may just take some getting used to.

instead of tape I was thinkin something like epoxy or silicone or foam sealant or SOMETHIN of that kind...would purchasing a comp end plug be the same thing, since I just need it to be follow?

The lead would have to be secured. If it was loose it would rattle and the movement will constantly shift the balance point.

it is very easy to do. i would recommend using a 2 part epoxy that sets up quickly. using a composite end plug defeats the purpose of addind weight, since the comp end plug is lighter. use wood because it si cheaper to replace if you don't put in the right weight.

When you add the oggie grip on the shaft (since you have to cut your stick down a bit) do you regain the flex lost by cutting it?

The Oggie Grip has a built-in flex point, so effectively you would gain back any flex lost by cutting down your stick.

It seemed I was shooting harder when I started using it, and passed it along to friends who said the same thing. Enough people began saying it that Oggie began radar testing to verify if it was true. I believe he only radar tested the Classic Grip (straight grip...closest to what people are already using) and he told me testers were averaging a sold two to three MPH increase.

was the increase in wristers, snappers, or slappers?

I think he said they only tested slapshots. Something about it being easier to get a reading on them, but hopefully he'll log on tonight to set me straight if I'm wrong....

Jason at Salming is right on the money.

All testing was performed with adult Adult Oggie Grip Classics grips mounted into 100 flex Salming G1's, Easton Synergy Grip's, Easton Synergy Si-Core's, Mission M-1's, and CCM Vector V-110's. Sticks with grips had identical lengths as sticks without grips for accurate comparison. All testers were advanced level adults. Slapshots were only tested thus far on a Skillpad from distances of 15 and 30 feet.

Additional testing to be performed on ice. If anyone in the Massachusetts area is interested in performing additional testing, please log onto www.oggiegrip.com/contact/ and submit your contact information, skill level, age, and team. Testing will be performed in Auburn, MA at Horgan Arena.

We will post results on the website when complete.

Joe
