Gloves

Recommended Posts

I'm in the market for new gloves now. I am in Eagle x70i's now that I love, but are just way too torn up...right now I am looking for a loose fitting glove like the Eagles, but in something like a 13-13.5" and something below the price range of the Eagles. Dropping $120 on a glove again disappoints me...anybody have an opinion or idea on what kind of gloves out there are like this? Thanks

Erik

The vapor X and XV are pretty popular on my team, and i think they're pretty reasonable.

I tried on the vapors and coming from x70i i didnt think they were comfortable at all,and i tried on the 5ks and loved them the fit was very similar to my eagles

How much do you want to spend? That will make a difference in what I suggest.

He said he wanted a loose fitting glove. I have reeboks and compared to my sandes, by all means they are not a loose fitting glove. I dont think the vapor line is real loose fitting ether. Some gloves that seem to be loose fitting are, eagles, sandes, muskokas, bauer sdp line, mission litefit line, a lot of the ccm gloves, and eastons?? to name a few(corect me if im wrong). Some of these gloves are still going to be around the $120+ range. So, remeber to check on ebay for some good deals.

HockeyMidget,

I know it's not easy to try on our gloves, since we're not in enough stores, but I can't tell you how many people have said our 2005 PG1's are incredibly comfortable. At every display I've done, one guy would put them on, then tap his buddy and tell him he's got to try on the gloves.

If you haven't already read it, Chadd wrote a nice review about them, as did Puckmugger on Epinions. They're worth a consideration with an MSRP of <$90.

PuckMugger seems to think the 2004 model were a little better what do they retail at and do you agree with any of his reasons for saying that?

They're very different from each other and there are things I like about the 04 model better, although I've begun liking the 05 more.

The 04 model is thinner, which I like because I think it follows the contour of the wrist better. The 05 is much looser, which HockeyMidget said he wanted, and it has less break-in time. The 04 fits around a stick comfortably, but it took about a month or so for the glove to stretch in the palm to pick up a stick off the ice more easily. Right out of the bag the 05 fits around the stick and opens more widely, which I'm beginning to like more.

I think I'd like the 04's thinness with the 05's mobility, but I think I'm in the minority about liking thinner gloves. The 04's had retailed at $85 and I have them on eBay at $45 on a closeout (10% less for MSH members.)

Too tight for me, I didn't like them when I tried them on. I'm looking to spend something around the 90 and below mark, and as of now, none of my LHS have the RbK stuff...

To Salming. I wish that you guys did have more stuff in shops, that way I could try the glove on, I like the sound of the price of it, and loose fitting gloves are the way to go for me...bummer.

Thanks for the opinions, but if you can, keep them coming. I would like to hear them. Thanks.

DR Legend series are nice as are the 500 series. The 500s have inserts everywhere and are a very traditional glove for $50-$60. The 800 series is shaped a little differently but is pretty similar and around the same price. If you're willing to spend another $10, get the Mission L7's. I'd post links to the DR's but their website has been "under construction" since January.

The difference is I actually used them. Like most of his reviews, his is based almost entirely on looking at the product. They're very nice gloves, I still use them when I'm playing at the rink where my shop is located.

Not even close. The HGT is a much more narrow glove.

thanks for the replies. i'm considering ordering a pair of the cheap HGT's from ebay. unfortunately, i live in a country where there are only 2 LHS and the stock at both of them is severely limited (one currently has no gloves available) so i cannot try the fit for myself.

i'm currently using a pair of 13" Bauer Impact 500...they look similar to a 5000 style glove, or am i mistaken? would a 13" or 14" HGT be a better fit?

Well, after talking to Jason from Salming, I think I may choose to go with the PG1's for a very good price, hopefully I'll like them, I think I will with all that Jason talked about them :) ...thanks for all your opinions.

Chadd,

I don't know whether Puckmugger doesn't generally use the products he reviews, but he definitely used the Salming products on the ice.

Jason

PS I'm glad you like them well enough to keep using them. :D

Chad,

Why all the hate? What offenses have I committed that you feel the need to defame me at every chance? Certainly you are entitled to your opinions on what I write and I don't expect everyone to agree with me. However, I think that the continued personal attacks are entirely unwarranted and malicious.

Just for the record I still use my Salming gloves at least 3 times a week.

No malice at all and I've stated the reasons repeatedly. I've read many of your reviews and they all appear to be based on cursory usage. I feel those types of reviews are often not accurate and durability should be a major consideration in equipment review.

Short term use is not enough for the actual product qualities to shine through brand bias and intial impressions. Most of the time people love whatever new product they use, rarely they hate it. Very seldom does one have a middle of the road opinion on something they just used for the first time. After you use a product for a while, you learn more about the product and find many more little things that you like or dislike. Since a player is going to use that gear for a long time in most cases, those are the things that are going to matter over the long run.

The funny thing is I share some of your bias, but each product has to be given a clean slate as a starting point in a true review. The ones from the manufacturers you like have to start at zero, as do the products from manufacturers you dislike.
