Mission Skates in Vancouver

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm getting new skates pretty soon, probably sometime late this week or early next week, and I have yet to find a store in the Vancouver(B.C) area that stocks the newer Mission skates. I'd like to try on the S400s instead of just blind buying off the internet. Thanks

Yeah, that is a tricky one as I live in Vancouver and I know The Sports Exchange on Burrard and West 5th don't have them. You're right, Cyclone Taylor doesn't either. Scoffs in Burnaby also doesn't appear to carry them.

Only place I've seen Mission skates in Vancouver is Sport Mart, but that's older stuff.

Wow, Canada's third largest city and no Mission skates to be found. Never would have expected that!

it seems like mission is more of a company on the climb, i think about this time last year, the only mission equipment we would see are gloves and m1's.....but i think stores are slowly picking up on mission equipment

i dunno if i'd recommend the S400's anyways. my my 14 year old brother has gone through two pairs this year playing bantam AAA, and the skates look like hell. they're shredded to pieces all over, and he's not even a big kid by no means. you might be better off going for the S500's, maybe they're more durable, or another brand with similar fit

Spend a little more and get the s500s. Lee's right the s400's dont last at all(atleast mine didnt)But my s500s really did the trick. Its a great skate.

$150 is not a "little more"

For the others in the Vancouver area have you ever heard of these shops:

CMS - Kitsilano

2201 West 4th Avenue

Vancouver, British Columbia V6K 1N9

ph: 604-731-6181

Mark Slavin

199 Drake Street

Vancouver, British Columbia V6Z 2T9

The find a dealer thing isn't very helpful because it shows all the shops that carry their low end gear, and I know that none of the shops even stock S400-500 skates, but I have never even heard of the shops mentioned above. I'm thinking Kitsilano is a rinkside shop, and I have never heard of Mark Slavin

Edit:Chadd is right I can't afford the S500s because I will likely grow out of them before I wear them out, atleast that's what happened with my 8090s.

well, going through a pair of S400's every 3 months or so isn't any cheaper

I have seen guys on the ice an average of four days a week since buying their S400s from me back in December and the skates look pretty good. If you treat them like crap, they will break down. If you take care of them, they will be fine.

well he treats them fine and takes care of them (drying them out, removing insole, etc), but the boot just gets torn to pieces. the tenon guard on both pairs could be bent back and forth like a flap. the siding is scraped and cut and covered with toe pro to prevent further damage. although, this isn't the first pair of skates he's demolished. he went through a couple pairs of graf 502's and a pair of 503's on year, and a pair of vapor 6's and 10's another season

I've never seen a bantam go through that many skates in one season. It sounds more like the problem is him and not the skates.

well, they weren't all in one season. the two vapors were in his first year peewee. the three grafs were in his second year peewee. then he went through a pair of the mission pure lites in his first year bantam but could never find another pair his size afterwards so he had to switch to the new missions. and in the S400's, he went through two in his second year bantam

How the heck could someone so young go through so many skates?

The fact that your friend has not destroyed the s500's should be a ringing endorsement to their durability, but the fact that s400's were destroyed shouldn't be held against them. Sounds like he's doing something out of the ordinary to his skates that is much more abusive than normal. Has anyone told your friend that he's not supposed to put his skates in the washing machine after each game?

he just goes balls out all over the ice. hard into corners, crashing the net, everything. its unreal. his vapor 10's are still on the used skate rack from 4 years ago. they're so beat up no one wants them. the pure lites lasted him a full season, but then he outgrew them, and they stopped making them, and he couldn't find a pair his size anywheres, so he had to go with the S400's.

Sorry to dig up this thread from beyond the grave, but have any of the local folks in Vancouver had any luck finding Mission skates? I was in The Hockey Shop on Saturday and they hardly had anything. Has anyone found any in the city? Does BC even have a Mission rep?
