DEAL DONE !

Recommended Posts

NBC is signed but I don't think it is for that many games. The big question is whether someone will pick up the whole ESPN deal.

NBC was a game of the week type deal wasn't it? And I think they were going to run promos during more of there weekday primetime shows than ABC ever did (well, what's double of NONE????)

Great idea though. Are you in school for/or do you work in marketing????

No, he posted earlier that he's an accountant, which makes these ads even more impressive!

chippa13...those are pretty good...it'll be interesting to see what the NHL marketing actually puts together...

Nike had the few good lockout commercials...I wonder if they're already working on something...

The thing is the NHL has to start doing their own ads, not relying on Nike and ESPN to do the ads for them.

Definitely, since the only time you see Nike, CCM or RBK ads are during hockey games.

The NHL needs to get out there. Put spots during NFL games, NASCAR races, PGA events, MLB stretch drive. They need to take the bull by the horns and get out there.

Great ideas Chippa! A few weeks ago I had a dream that I was making ads for the NHL and it involved players trying other sports (unsuccessfully) then being relieved when they could reapply their skills during a game.

I remember waking up thinking wow, great ideas, I should write them down before I forget....which of course, I didn't do so I guess we'll have to go with Chippa's :D

About the whole knuckleball thing, Ive been working all summer so far on my pitching, and have been learning the knuckleball from my pitching coach. By no means am I Tim wakefeild and my backstop still cant catch the ball, so I think the knuckleball comercial could become pretty funny. Have veritek in there trying to catch them and getting discouraged, then bring in some young star maybe like fleury, and snag all of the knucklers.

Oh, if you only knew how truly creative accountants are.

Isn't "Creative Accounting" part of the NHL's troubles *L*

Nice!

Anyway, how about reprising those old unemployed goalie ads (Panger working in a burger joint, the goalie working as a janitor, all in full gear) but have them heading back to work - get a big mean guy like Stevens working at McD's in his gear, gets a call from his agent while serving a customer, cheers at the news that the hockey is back, cross checks his boss out of the way and skates off.

And so who is contacting the NHL marketing department to get us all jobs there?

I have never seen anything that makes me believe the NHL has a marketing department.

It was well done, except for the slapshot noises when Naslund was supposed to be shooting.

Sportsnet (Cdn Rogers) had a feature on Jarome Iginla and the Nike 45-second hockey training program that was quite interesting, too.

I didn't get to see that commercial. I'm in NJ, and this place is certainly not a hockey hot-bed. I'm guessing it's really a Canadian commercial for the most part?

I have never seen Crosby play. I have only seen his numbers. And as good as they are, I'm not convinced. Sorry. He's a little guy blessed with skill, but when he enters the Big League, I will be amazed to see if the true talent materializes. Everyone scores in JR Hockey. Look at Alex Daigle. They guy was amazing in QMJHL! His points were up there with Lemieux, he went #1 and look what happened! Nothing! He wound up moving to LA and fooled around with Pam Anderson, which I guess isn't so bad. Seriously, though, he will have a hard time proving myself. He's a marked guy, all teams will be like "There's Crosby, let's get him!" He will have to work extra hard to get around guys cuz they will be gunning for him. I honestly don't see him being a franchise guy. Good yes, maybe a 2nd line top scorer, or first line set up man to a bigger scorer like Iggy, Kovalchuk, etc. But the second coming of Wayne? Cmon. I think Wayne is just humbling himself when he said this kid will be better than him.

I don't think anyone who has seen him play believes he will be on a level with Wayne. He'll be a good solid player. It wasn't in Daigle to play, Crosby has alot more drive for the game. He won't "flop" because he can play anywhere from a #1 to #4 line, but I fully expect him to be like Foppa.

Anyone remember Pat Falloon? Haha! He was supposed to be San Jose's franchise player. He all but disappeared from NHL hockey for years. I think he broke back in on the Flyers 3rd line, for like 10 games.

Will Crosby suffer the same fate????

I don't mind that at all. It's hard being at 18. Most players aren't gived the chance to show their stuff before they are drafted. Alot of the first round guys aren't PPG players in their league. It may take a year away from 1-3 rookies, but it will help solidify player selections a little more, giving players that extra year to catch up.

Pat Falloon now lives the good life getting piss drunk at his cabin and playing Senior hockey. I've played with his nephew before, pretty good player.

He was drafter #2 that year behind Lindros. It was the first time a #1 and #2 overall picks played for the same team at the same time. He was a good complimentary player, but couldn't carry a team by himself.

I love how people are hoping for him to fail, not necessarily you guys but I have read so many things like "next Daigle, next Falloon" etc etc. He's what 18? What exactly has he done to harm those people, why would you hope someone who is 18 fails at hockey? Especially someone as good as Crosby..

I can't imagine many people actually want him to fail. If they do, it's likely due to the excessive exposure that has been given to him. Most likely, people, like me, just don't see how he can ever live up to the hype that surrounds him. If he scores a point per game in the NHL, he was supposed to do that. If he doesn't, then he failed. It's just not fair to have those expectations for anyone.

Had a good idea for team commercials yesterday. Granted I'm stealing it from a movie, a little.

Pick your favorite team..............

Scene opens, Blues Brother car pulls up in front of a building. Thornton and Samsonov (the heights really work with these two) get out of the car wearing full gear but the Blues Brothers hats and glasses. They see Murray behind a counter.........

"Hey Muzz, we're getting the team back together."

And so on.............I think it would be a riot.

They go to the lounge and you've got Boynton, Bergeron, and Raycroft playing as a jazz trio, but wearing their gear.

Ahhh, the stuff that goes on inside this head.
