Us americans are only concerned about the headline stories I think this is kinda sad, in Canada in school we learn all about the U.S and there history, but in the states most dont even know anything about our country when we are right beside them. QandA 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2005 They have a show or some sort of documentary which showed people interviewing Americans and asking them what the Capital of Canada was and for the most part people didn't know. What's the capital of Thailand?
tokes 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2005 They have a show or some sort of documentary which showed people interviewing Americans and asking them what the Capital of Canada was and for the most part people didn't know. What's the capital of Thailand? NZ's capital is Auckland IIRC. I know everyone thinks Australia is Sydney but it isn't. Canbara or something like that. Thailand's capital is Bangkok. I have an Uncle who lives there, so I can't wait to go next summer with friends.

vivaotravez12 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2005 I remember watching a show that interviewd and aired DURING the Afghan war....I believe it was a kid in a coffee shop with a map of the world....asking random people to pick out where Afghanistan was on the blank map...I don't think one person knew where it was, closest person was Iran I believe...it was sad, especially when my 9yr old cousin knows where it is, and even more sad when we have troops giving their lives over there. So yes, your average American is a moron when it comes to geograhy.

Jason Harris 31 Report post Posted July 19, 2005 I was in Toronto for the HOF Induction Weekend which was two days after our election. What I found interesting was how many Canadians seemed more concerned -- and probably even better informed -- about our election than many Americans were.In HS we had to vote for a change to our school calendar. I didn't like either of the choices, so I didn't vote to lodge a silent protest. It turned out the schedule I really didn't like won. I learned a lesson right then and I've voted ever since. Chadd 916 Report post Posted July 19, 2005 Most American students can't name the capital of 3/4 of the US states, why would they bother learning the capital of a foreign country. Most US students fall into three categories:Those who learn everything they can, because they love to learn. Those who learn what they think they're going to need for college/SAT.Those who learn exactly what's going to be on the test, then promptly forget it after the test.Unlike most of the people I graduated with, I could name the vast majority of world capitals, locations of rivers and mountain ranges, etc... The sad truth is, most americans just don;t care because it doesn't matter to them on a day to day basis.
Dangles 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2005 "Talking to Americans" is a TV program that Rick Mercer did. It was fantastic. The stuff Americans know about Canada is ridiculous. Not to be offensive, but some Americans has stupid assholes. Prime Example..Rick Mercer says to a guy.. "we just named our new bridge in Canada the Peter Mans bridge..you know the Peter MansbridgeAmerican: That's fantastic! For those that didnt know.. Peter Mansbridge is the national news anchor. He's the equvilent of Tom Brokaw or something like that.
Hockeyman9621 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2005 I'm Canadian, and I can admit we have some retards too, there was a show on in Toronto where they went around asking everyone to sing the national anthem and half of them couldn't do it. And speaking of dumb americans,(no offense to any Americans, except to those mentioned in the following) I forget which state, but there was a show on where some guy was asking people what they thought of the polar bear hunt in Toronto or save the polar bears or something, and not one of them knew any better. lol

It isn't like as an American I'll ever sit down and watch the Canadian national news. And how much of your knowledge do you think comes from TV? From what I remember, there are a hell of a lot more American channels and shows broadcasted in Canada than there are in the US. In fact, the only Canadian show I can think of is Degrassi.
