I wondered if my LHS is ripping me off?

I live in a smaller town and there is only one store.(Players Bench)

There skates are suprizingly cheap even the top notch ones but.....

Everything else is expensive.

Synergy ST $189.99 CND + tax

Synergy 500 Shoulder pads $125.99 w/tax

Synergy 900 Shoulder pads $169.99 + tax

Those are some examples.

And for a sale on the old synergys they took off $20 so they are still over 200 bucks!

Do you guys think they are trying to take advantage of us because that is the only place in town? Because if they are i'm not going to buy from them anymore.

I have been buying everything there even though we travel alot ,so I could get it elseware. But I figured that it would be a good thing to have a good relationship with my LHS because in the middle of the season when you need equipment fast or fixed they are the ones you turn to.

What do you think? What would you do?

I know equipment is expensive, and I am willing to pay the price for it. But not if they are going to charge outragous prices when I can go elsewhere. If it was a $20 difference I'd still buy them here.

the gaps with the internet. I don't think you should feel

obligated to make every purchase locally.

i live in winnipeg and the SLs are like 250 here CND and the synergys are 150. They barly mark down stuff here, the XN10 heres like 300.

In the wonderful world of retail that's called a "high-low" pricing strategy. Some products are sold for cheap, some are sold at high margins. Obviously the cheap get you in the store, then the add on's cost extra.

In the grocery world, milk and eggs are low margin items that they advertise, then the jack the price of laundry soap, for example. Of course, the internet is a powerful tool to learn what's a good deal and what's not.

Fortunately for you something as unique as a skate fit has to be determined at a LHS so good they're priced reasonably. As for the other stuff, it may be worth your while to shop around.

i wouldn't be complaining about the 189.99 ST! thats a bargain! they're 219.99 cdn here in N.S., same price normal synergys were. si-cores were 129.99 cdn up in the city, but were only 110 lidstroms. to me, those prices don't seem overpriced at all, unless you're talking about junior equipment.

The Si-cores here are still over $200 the only store that had them for cheap was sports chek and they had that sale on for only a week!

STs and SLs are abot $220US here. and Si-cores are $190. Stealth's and XN10's are $230US. My LHS is a total rip off!

sls around here are about 179US and my lhs had a big sale on all their old synergys 50% off, it was crazy, so now they dont have any of the old synergys

STs and SLs are abot $220US here. and Si-cores are $190. Stealth's and XN10's are $230US. My LHS is a total rip off!

Wow that is bad. Our SL's are $164.99USD and our ST's are $144.99. Stealths are $214.99 for grip $209.99 for non. We don't carry XN10's.

i'd say try and support your LHS in any way you can instead of always going with the internet hockey sites such as hockeygiant also it takes some hastle out of it

i got all 5 of my sl's for $126.99 usd, havent seen a better price then that ever.

Bauer XXX's are £559 at my LHS which is exactly $981.79 which is the crazy so thats the only reason i don't buy things like skates there the only thing i buy from there is sticks, tape,jerseys and helmets
