Jordan6969 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2005 I am getting a new wedge and have narrowed it down to titleist, callaway, ben hogan, or nike but I don't whether to get a lob (60 degree) wedge or sand wedge (56 degree). I already have a 52 degree gap wedge in my bag but I just don't know which wedge is more important in my bag. What do you guys think?
Dangles 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2005 Get a 56 degree TaylorMade RAC. You won't go wrong with it.
sherwood21 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2005 You should have three wedges in your bag, PW/Gap, Sand, Lob.Now, I would personally recommend Titleist Vokey Oil Can's because they are just sexy and I love mine, but its subjective to how each wedge feels to you. Pretty expensive but worth it, plus the grooves can take a beating and come back for more.
Jordan6969 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2005 The problem is that I got a PW and a gap wedge and I think it would be pretty weird having 4 wedges. I like my PW and fairly new cleveland gap wedge a lot so I don't really want to take one of them out. I also don't really want to spend my whole pay check on getting 2 wedges because I am getting a new 3 wood.
Cavs019 710 Report post Posted July 23, 2005 I just got a set of Cleveland CG10s in 52, 56, 60. Great wedges, I'd go with a 56, I can snipe with it from 110 yards and under from any lie. Only reason I like to keep a 60 in the bag is for those short chips with very little green to work with where I need to have the ball land soft with minimal roll, in addition to clearing traps, etc.
Chadd 916 Report post Posted July 23, 2005 I love my Hogan forged wedges, but I prefer the 5609 to the 6012. There's just too much bounce on the 60. The other thing is you really only use a lob a couple times a round at most, unless you are really wild with your approach shots and short side yourself frequently. The 60 is a much more difficult club to hit and a bad shot is far worse with a 60 than a 56.
twiztidwrista10 3 Report post Posted July 23, 2005 I just got a cleveland 588 60 degree and its awsome. Big deep grooves for lots of spin around the greens. This is what i would do, sell your 52 and buy a 56 and buy a 60. That will gap your wedges better IMO. If you dont want to do that i would get a 56, I got around fine with just my 56 untill recently when i got the 60.

Otherwise you will have a 46 or 47 PW and a 56 SW with nothing between them. That is a huge difference and can create some issues on the course. Chances are you would use a 52 far more than a 60 on any given round.
twiztidwrista10 3 Report post Posted July 23, 2005 If he could I'd have him buy the 52 56 and 60 but it looks like he just wants 2 wedges. It seems most people like the 56, 60 combo better.

twiztidwrista10 3 Report post Posted July 23, 2005 I had a gap wedge (53) and sold it back. You can get around fine with a 56 SW. You can just play the ball a lil back in your stance or forward. You can also choke down a lil. 3/4 shots are great for around the green, you have more control.

I really like having that club in the middle. If you don't have a big gap between your yardages, it may not bother you as much. Depending on what you mean by around the green, I use anything from an 8 iron to a lob wedge and a 3/4 lob (60) is still around 50 yards. I generally use a lot less than 3/4 "around the green". The situation more than the distance determines my club useage.
sherwood21 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2005 With the original topic at hand, your going to get sick wedges if you pick any of the clubs you mentioned. I guess what it will come down to for you is which one feels best and pricing.
Dangles 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2005 Also, if you don't want to get three wedges, get a 52 and 58.
Z-Unit14 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2005 Pitching Wedges are generally 48º, so depending on how much you wanted to spend, you could scrap the 52, and get a 54 and a 60 degree. Depending on how many wedges you wanted to carry you could also get a 56 and 60. Keeping the 52 and getting a 58 is also an option. I suggest a Rac Black... very soft. If not that then a Cleveland CG10 black pearl.
Jordan6969 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2005 Scrapping my 52 is out of the question because I've used it so much because I only have a PW and gap. For mid distanced chips my gap is money. I don't know if I want to drop like 225 dollers on a CG10, but I was thinking about getting a titleist vokey spin milled, or a nike TW wedge. I just hope the tiger wedge is not one of those gimicky things because it costs 20 dollers more than the spin milled. At golf town the CG 10's are over 200, the tiger wedge is 180, and the spin milled is 160 canadian of course.

hitz14 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2005 i used to only have a 56 and i could hit it for a variety of shots i just adjusted the way i hit it, but i left it on a green once and never saw it again, i got a callaway 60 for christmas and its great. but i do wish i had a 56 or 54 to go with it.becuase i hit my pitching wedge 90yds and then my 60 like 60-65yds. I have no club for 80 yds. So if you can i would get a 56or54 and 60 degree wedge. You will never go wrong with that. The callaway pro chrome wedge i have is like only 90 bucks to.
