New Skates

Recommended Posts

Im going in August to get new skates for high school and midgets, since my synergys are getting small and I sold my vapor 10s to my friend since I had alot of pain in them(too narrow). The four skates I want to try on are RBK 8k,CCM Pro tacks 2005,Misson S500, and Nike Flexlite 12.Im pretty sure the Nikes dont fit from experience when the v12 came out,but it never hurts to try them on.But I have a question about the mission skates, are the S500 pretty stiff and are they wider than mission inline skates,.Also on my friends 04 S500 the tongue ripped out when he went to pull it up, have they fixed this with the 05 model?

Im probally goning to end up getting the synergy skates again.

I have a pretty wide foot and the Nike's fit me pretty well even in a D width. I fitted synergys almost pefect. They were a tad too narrow if anything in the regular width.

It wasn't a widespread problem.

I really recomend the mission skates. The s500 arnt overly stiff or anything. They wont be as stiff as nikes bauers eastons ccm's ect. Im not sure about the width. I imagine there the same. Also Ive never had any problems with the tounge being riped out and I've had two pairs of the mission supple fit line(s400, s500). Anyways Id go with the missions. There sooooo comfortable.

Well, the stiffness of the vapor xx was perfect for me ,I do like really stiff skates though but if the S500 are as stiff as the vapors then thats perfect.

The Vapors are much stiffer in the ankle but get soft. Missions are stiff around the base of the foot. It's a much different concept.

Chadd, are the ankles really flimsy like low end skates

no, but they aren't restrictive like a vapor is when it's new.

Grafs have flimsy ankles, and the're not "low end"

Only the 727s really qualify as flimsy.

eh, every Graf I've had for over a year was less stiff than my Nike Shox, but I guess in terms of out of the box your right. Again though, stiffness does not equal support, and you would be surprised how much easier it is to maximize stride length and power with a softer boot.

I really cant wait to try on the S500.From the sound of things im really likin them.

Cavs, I only said that because I thought only lowend skates have really flimsy ankles. As my Bauer impact 100 pond hockey skates have the most flimsy ankles Ive ever used, other than the rental skates for Phys. Ed. at school.

I agree. That's why I like the Mission Supplefit concept. It's stiff and supportive around the foot yet flexible enough to allow for a long, powerful stride. Not that I have either a long or powerful stride. ;)

I didn't have any problems with my 609s softening up. From the list mentioned above, it seems the Missions might be a little narrow. I haven't worn Eastons in a while, but I thought they were a little wider than the Missions I've had. What was the problems with the V-12 fitting? I'd say determine which is the best fitting skate, and then come b ack for questions. Its best not to go in with a bias.

They are going to feel nothing like you Synergy skates. It could be good or bad depending on what you like about them. Only you will be able to tell what you like more.

Hey did you you have the Synergy 1300c? I'm looking at buying those. If you like a wide® skates then I would take a serious look into the RBK's and the CCM's. The Hockey Company is known for making wider skates. But I have also been hearing great things about the new mission s5000 around the rinks. Its all up to your preference. You won't know til you try them on. Good luck with your choice.

justin,

i just saw a pair of your '06 skates today(the holder said itech). i forgot the model but they were lite and stiff. a guy i skate with is friends with a mission rep. i will be looking for new skates next year and mission is at the top of my list. i would have tried them except they were a 8.5 and i wear 12. i also liked the vent system on the bottom, and hte fact they are heat moldable. looking forward to the release of them next year.

All of the pairs of Grafs that I've had have felt pretty flimsy around the ankles too.

I have used Graf for years and never considered them to be flimsy. I have a pair of 709's that were so stiff i couldn't break them in. I currently use the 703's that i have had for about 7 or 8 years and they are still stiff as hell.

I got to try on the RBK 8k and they fit perfect. The padding in them was very comfortable and like a quarter inch thick. But I still really want to try on the S500,Flexlites.If the new pro tacks fit like the 8k I think thats what im going to get.

You have till september to try the pro tacks, if you don't like them, CCM will give you your money back. So, you have nothing to loose if you are considering them.

The synergy skate you have is the most stiff skate out there, maybe besides the Kor but I couldn't tell you anything about those. 8k sounds good for you, but I wouldn't go without trying the S500, by far the best fitting skate I've tried on. It's too bad I have little money or else I'd buy em'.
