If he goes it'll be more of a publicity stunt than based on merit. I can't imagine him deserving to be on an Olympic team his rookie season, but at the same time I can see him being put on it.

Talk about hype!! He hasn't even played 1 NHL game with the big boys, and they are already talking about him possbily being one of the top 23 canadain players in the world!

i dont know if im the only one but i am sick and tired of hearing the name sidney crosby. i mean i respect his talent, but all the hype surrounding him is getting rediculous. or the past 2-3 year only everyday in the local paper is something about sidney crosby, and the week leading up to draft day it was none stop but i thought hey after he goes #1 we'll stop hearing about him for a while. WRONG, i still hear about him on almost a daily basis. AS malcb33 said he hasnt even played a game in the show yet and there talking about him going to italy.

I guess im going to have to learn to deal with it becuase its not going to go away anytime soon.

Hockey Canada isn't stupid. They realize that 2010 is in Vancouver, it is expect that Sindey Crosby will be the focal point of that team. Being as Italy is nice and far away from Canada they can give Crosby a controlled learning experience, with some of the best team leaders of all-time. There is no way that he will go if he doesn't earn it.

Frankly I don't want Mario in Italy, unless of course he plays every regular season game leading up to it.

Didn't Lindros play in a Canada cup type tournament with Gretzky either in his rookie year or before he played an NHL game? I thought he put up good numbers as well.

Edit: Just looked it up. He played on the National Team, 24 GP 35 Pts and played in the Olympics 8 GP 11 Pts. Crosby has just as much hype surrounding him. For those who've watched him play he is very similar to Forsberg. He is playing with NHLers this summer and has played with them for years. If he makes the team, it'll be because he is good enough. I can definately see it happening.

I'm willing to bet he will be on the team but will not see a lot of ice time. It's a good chance to get him exposed to the environment of the Olympics before the media crush in Vancouver. I'm willing to bet they sell a lot more jerseys if he goes, too.

Lindros played in the 91 Canada Cup, and that was before he played a game in the NHL (If my memory serves me correctly). I am not saying Crosby should, but Lindros did it, and was not out of place at all. If Crosby plays well enough, he will be there. If there is a player in his mid 30's that is having a similar type season, hockey Canada will pick Crosby, because they like to get there young guys used to the climate. Lets remember, Crosby wasn't he even the best player on Canada at the Jr's last year, might not even have been in the Top 3. So I think we are getting ahead of ourselves a little.

you cant compare the physical force of an early eric lindros to sidney crosby. Lindros was the size of a meat frezer when he was drafted, crosby is still a baby comapred to guys in the show. i despise lindros, but in jrs he would get into a fight, and score a hat trick. ive seen crosby lay maybe 4 hits in 2 years, where eric loved hittign until his head turned into a grape.

I was at the games in Meribel, Albertville Olympics 92' when Lindros played for Team Canada.

He was awful to watch. Super dirty behind the plays and in between whistles. I guess he was trying not too get clinicked by some of the veterans by playing that way, but we were nonetheless, not too impressed.

Tha same thing could happen to Crosby, he may have to reinvent himself to compete with the big boys for a couple years until he settles in to his own game.

I say let him play...and get me some tix!
