Drury/Kovalev to Crosby

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

I went out for a skate today, the first time I've played a form of competetive Ice hockey is about 18 months (although it was only shinny) and obviously I was a little rusty, but found my shoot to be just awful. I used a Novius and R2 Xn10 all summer long with 5 and 5.5 lies, but used a Crosby today and had alot of trouble. I think the curve was good, but the lie was just wrong. the stick blade never felt right and I seemed to be missing my shots. I didn't use this stick for roller, but had no problems at all. I am wonder if I am just used to an inline puck right now, if it was just the rust, or if others have had the same problems?

maybe both, but for sure your not used to the ice puck yet.

im having the smae problem, only placed ice twice since the rollar season, still trying to get my lighting quick release back. when you carry the puck with crosby, do you still carry the puck with the heel/ where you normally keep the puck? if you find your stickhandling with other areas of the blade than your usual, then its time to switch lies. other than that i don't think so, prolly it's the wieght of the ice puck from the ligh roller puck.

I use the Inno Kovalev retail pattern and close substitutes (5.5ish lie) most often. I recently bought a Crosby wood blade because I liked the look of the curve, but like you had a lot of trouble shooting with it. Shots seem to flutter off to the right (I am a RH shot). Like anything, I probably could have adjusted to it with time, but I just put the blade in the doghouse after one use.

changing lies is the hardest thing to get used to , i would say just stick with the drury . I went from a sakic to a yzerman once and i couldnt even handle the puck, same thing happened when i tried a modano

I find when changing lies the key thing to figure out for shooting, passing and stick handling come down to one concept. Figure out and retrain yourself on where to put your lower hand on the stick. Sounds simple but thats the way it works for me.

Changing lies is very tough. I too notice a big difference between a 5.0 and 5.5 and after about a week of trying I gave up my Sakic and went back to Modano.

The added rocker on the Sakic could be part of the problem.
