Kor Hockey Unimold Skates

I'm dead set on getting a pair of KORs this winter. For the guys that have been skating in them...any issues with durability so far?

I'm glad to see they focused on getting a good product to market and took the time to work out most, if not all, of the bugs before they released the product. Other colors or models can come later for me.

Which is exactly what we are doing.

I figured they would roll out the shift two next year once I saw it wasn't going to come out this year.

OK. I tried a pair of Kor Shift's last night. WOW!

My shoe size is a 9.5 so i went in to a size 9 KOR.

They were baked already for someone with a wide foot and I have a narrow foot.

They felt great, instantly, very comfortable. MY Vapor XX's are comfortable too, but this was different. The Kor's were solid and strong and no real pressure points, except for my inside left ankle.

I could hardly skate on them at first. The sensation was very different form my Vapors. They were super sharp and I had trouble stopping without biting in to ice too quickly. turning was crazy tight. and straight-aways were fast and furious.

Putting it all together in a game environment was not so smooth, almost comical, kinda like rollerblading for the first time. angles, balance, and center of gravity was way off for me.

I put my Vapors back on and noticed instantly that the Vapor XX is a crappy skate.

like a paper boot with a blade on them. so light and flimsy compared to the solidness of teh Kor.

will post more later...

gb

If they were super sharp, it was not the skate, it was the hollow they put in when they were sharpened. All skates need to be radiused and have the proper hollow.

When I spoke to Kor today, they said they were working and testing a different model. It is not a lower end model, just a different fitting model, lower cut. Perhaps production in Oct.

I asked a few questions, first were they going to discontinue the current model next year, and if any "cheaper models would be in the future. He told me that they were working on a new model, but it was NOT going to be cheaper, only a different fit. Testing almost done and production perhaps in Oct. No other details.

Yes, I will probably buy these skates and get them molded and radiused and sharpened to my taste. The skates themselves felt great, so I guess we just have to tinker with them a bit to get them feeling right.

looking forward to it!

Right now I have a pair of Graf 705s with Tblades and a pair of Vapor XX's.

The Kor Shifts feels the best.

For those that might have gotten confused with the wording, no, the Shift1 will not be discontinued for '06.

There will be a Shift2, however, with a different cut, not fit.

Price will be the same.

As a rep, I cannot wait for the goal skate to come out!

You could damn near use the shift 1 as a goal skate. I blocked 6 shots with them in one shift and never felt a single one of them.

Besides the different cut boot, what are the other differences? Color?

no doubt Chadd!

Man are they built rock-solid! Some NHLers have to be taking notice of the protection that they have?

I spoke with one of our PuckSkin pros who just signed with the Oilers, His teammate last year, Rocky Thompson, is wearing the Kors and swears by them.

I can't imagine Rocky is the type of guy anyone would want to acknowledge as using their product.

He was here a couple years ago.

42 games, 0 goals, 3 assists. 143 PIM.

Actually Chadd, fighters are very tough on skates. Kor is very happy that Rocky uses them.

Does your comment also mean that stick and glove companies shouldn't approach fighters as they are not the "types of guys anyone would want to acknowledge as using their product"?

Yeah, both shifts a game must really wear them down.

He's been a lot more places in his hockey career then you have... :o or for that matter, all of us.

I guess the hockey companies should tell the fighters that "no, sorry, we don't want your business; you're not worthy of using our product."

Pro hockey is a business Chadd. Part of our business is to promote our products on ALL players, not just the elite.

Since I am sure that you have never been a pro rep, let me tell you, it isn't everything it is cracked up to be. It is one of the toughest and mentally challenging jobs that there is.

Personally, I enjoy all of the ups and downs that the job brings. I have been fortunate to have learned from one of the best in the business and it is the things that I have learned through him that have taught me all I know about selling to pro hockey players.

Try doing it with a brand that is new, or has inferior product. I've been there! You reach for whatever business you can get, because your job depends on it.

No doubt about it. He's 10 times the player that I ever will be as well, I have no illusions about that. I'm also sure that Kor is happy to have every pro in their skates that they can get. His use isn't going to inspire any customers though.

I know other guys who have been there and have heard a lot of the stories. It's a cut-throat business and you can bust your ass to get a guy in your stuff and watch him change because someone gave him a big check or because the wind is blowing in a different direction.

Chadd, you'd be surprised at how good the fighters are at playing hockey. I remember back to when Paul Kariya was at his first Ducks Training Camp and Stu Grimson was the fastest skater of the bunch. Stu f**king Grimson, Chadd! Can you imagine?

I remember watching that guy practice, for almost 7 seasons here in Southern California with the Ducks and then the Kings. The guy was one of the, if not the hardest working guy on the team, both on and off the ice.

Being a tough guy is the NHL isn't just about fighting. You need to make sure you don't f**k up when you are out there playing a "normal" shift. You have to make sure that you cover your assignments while on the ice. You have to show the coaching staff and GM, as well as your teammates that you can be counted on.

IMHO, I feel you are completely off base with your comment.

You're right. So until you live that life and go through the struggles that some of us have gone through, don't bring your nonsense here about "I can't imagine Rocky is the type of guy anyone would want to acknowledge as using their product."

At the end of the day Chadd, you as a store owner still fall for the "we have 60 guys in the NHL using the product", and some of those numbers, include guys like Rocky Thompson. With that in mind, maybe the shoe is on the other foot...

What bug got up your ass tonight? I made a friggin joke, as all of us do every day. If I happened to pick a friend of yours or even an acquaintance I'm sorry. Hey, I loved watching Bob Probert play and in his prime he had good wheels, but it wasn't because of his skating that I enjoyed watching him

As for the comment itself, I watched him play in Hershey and his skating was below that of many of the other players at that time. He seemed like a good guy and hard worker, I'm sure it has improved in the last couple years.

Actually, I couldn't care less how many guys in the NHL use a piece of gear. I look for quality gear that I believe in and good people running the company, that's why I signed up with Kor when I first got a chance to check them out in person. In fact, the one or two lines we sell that I don't personally believe in are probably going to get cut from our lineup. And one of those brands is Eagle who has the best NHL representation of all of our brands.
