ktang 34 Report post Posted September 3, 2005 I'm glad that I commute with an econo-mobile - manual transmission, no power steering, Honda Civic. The 1-yr oil futures are down to US$50 per barrel, though, so the prices should eventually drop barring further energy-related events.Anybody considering downsizing their transportation? seanmccann 3 Report post Posted September 3, 2005 89 cents CDN /litre to 97 cents CDN /litre. About 16 months ago our city has a huge price war and gas was 23 cents /litre for 1 day. Pretty big difference.

I've been looking for an old Fiero so I can down size. I will say I'm only going to drive downtown once or twice this weekend, there's a nice little festival along the riverfront. My part time guy is covering the weekend and I'm driving 30 miles all weekend, tops.I recall reading a Saudi oil guy saying there was no justification for oil being above $40 a barrel, and that was a month ago. jay 1 Report post Posted September 4, 2005 Apparantly gas supplies are drying up all over the south. There's none left in Pensacola as of yesterday and a friend from Orlando said he couldn't find gas there today. This is going to get much much worse then any of us can imagine. Dangles 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2005 Can someone in Chilliwack help me out? I just read that gas is 195.9/litre ( ya thats right almost two bucks a litre) at the Chevron station on Vedder Road. Can anyone confirm this?
Jason Allison 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2005 Wow $3 + dollars for a gallon of gas! Jesus christ! Here in Los Angeles I filled my car up today at a chevron for $2.93 a gallon. But we've been paying this much for quite some time (give or take $0.10). I don't think we've really been affected by Huricane Katrina in terms of gas prices as much as the rest of the US yet. My Wife's visiting her family in CT and she said it was like $80 + to fill her dad's escalade. At that point do you really need to drive an escalade?
Fury of One 6 Report post Posted September 4, 2005 Thanks to all the people who voted for Bush. "If you don't need gas, don't buy it." What a dumba--. Stupid Oil rich Texan won't open up the reserve. If the oil refineries were shut down because of Katrina, what are we doing in Iraq? We don't even use our own oil.

zingbergeur 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2005 I wish more gas stations did it the old fashion way where they would set prices according to what they paid when they last got their supply in. Of couse, that would just delay the inevitable, but it would be nice. Now they are free to change prices even to what future price figures look to be for them. Most stations get fuel from their suppliers daily. Believe me, the prices at the pump accurately reflect what the station owners are paying. My dad owns a truckstop, and this is the worst thing that can happen to a gas station owner. They are NOT making any more money off of you than under normal circumstances. In fact, 99% of stations are worse off because of these prices...except for those rare instances of $6/gal gougers who should be delt with accordingly. Do you realize that the margins made by a station are a mere 8-12 cents/gallon? I didn't mean to go on a rant, but I just thought I'd share some info. Yeah, convenience stores can make money from stuff like fountain sodas and whatnot, but some stations sell below cost to run out the competition too. I think the state of Wisconsin tried or did pass legislation to not allow stations to sell below cost. What might be good for the consumer in the short run would be terrible in the long run when those stations who sold below cost no longer have any competition.
