Reebok 8k Pump Roller Hockey skate

Christmas? Ouch. Nothing worse than getting your product out 2 months later than Mission and Tour.

Or 10 months earlier. ;)

i think those are a rip... for that kinda of money you should be getting top of the line rinkrat blueflame wheels and not a aluminum chassis... that is so yesterday. to top it all off they don't even look good. <_<

I find it funny that rebok's top of the line skate couldnt even hold a flame to mission or tours second or third best skates. abec 7's and aluminum chassis....gee didnt that come on the HE 550's last year? I know componentry isnt everything, but geez, if you want your product to be taken seriously wouldnt you want to have it be able to at least compete with the other companies products that are out there and in its price range. Garbage I say!!!!

I'm all about trying the pump out and I love my skates with lacelocks, but $500 for a skate spec'd like that is terrible. I'll probably pick up the 6ks after I go with some Missions.

Sass,

Reeboks intentions with this skate might not be to compete with competitor's top-of-the-line skates though. They may just be looking to create a mid-range skate, fairly priced, to target the recreational-to-slightly competitive skater. Perhaps they feel there is no market for them at such a high level of skate.

I don't know if it's true, but I had 30-90s...Bauer's attempt at a high lever skate, and there is no way they could compete with Tour or Mission's top of line skates. Not even close. That One-up chassis was WEAK, poorly constructed and it even looked cheap. I swapped it out as soon as I bought them. There is no way Bauer thought that skate could come close to Mission's HE950 or Tour's Beemer (at the time, now Code1). After using them, I truly felt they were just supposed to be a good skate, for a decent player. No more, no less.

If you feel you "cant compete" in the market, then why would you put out a product and slap a Five Franklin tag on it?

Well that's just it, they aren't trying to compete. It's like comparing a Ford Taurus to a BMW M3, two different target markets. The Taurus, a good family car that lasts to a BMW that is all power and expense targeted at the young yuppie with some cash to flash!

I'm not saying that is the case, but it does happen. Maybe Reebok thinks there is more of a market for mid level skates. I dunno. My 30-90s were Bauer's top of the line. They cost $300. Mission's top cost $399, as did Tours. And like I said, that Bauer skate was nowhere near as well constructed at the Missions or Tours. And I'm sure Bauer knew it. So my point is, perhaps they are targeting a lower price range sort of buyer.

I'm sure if Bauer or Reebok really wanted to compete at that level and price range, they could have just taken Vapor XXX boot and slapped a magnesium chassis on it and charged $500 for it. But they didn't. They took basically a mid level boot (like an XIV or so) and put a crappy (IMHO) chassis on, and charged $300.

#96 I completely understand what you are saying, and I do get the analogie of the BMW to the Taurus, but for rebok (ford) to price the 8k skate (taurus) in the same range as the BMW (MIssion, Tour, etc.) would be extremely silly, and correct me if I am wrong but that is exactly what they are doing. I was told by my LHS that rebok is gonna look for 400-500 bucks for the 8k skate, that just seems like a whole lotta money for not a whole lotta skate.

that is what i heard as well.. around the mid $400 price range. if they are for $300 then it wouldn't be to bad... but not if they plan on selling it for the same price as high end skates.

Have a pic of someone useing the 8kPump skate at a tournament in Switzerland a coulpe of weeks ago.

They were fitted with Red Star Alloys and Rink Rat blue frames, pretty badass skate

The quality is not that good, but if anybody here will host it (and post it) I'll send it by e-mail.

Sorry guys I didn't know the MSRP on the skate...shot my mouth before understanding the facts! Yeah, I'd say a $500 prices tag is trying to compete with the other guys top skates LOL.

Nike did something similar with their Hi-Ho skate and it worked out fairly well for them. Use a good design, high price tag and some neat features to build up the hype around a skate.

Bottom line.... folks will still buy them cos of the RBK brand same as every one buys Nike.

I must live on a different planet, everyone raving about Mission and Tour boots. The Tours are heavier than a sherman tank and any company that constantly changes the design of the boots the way mission does gives me big concerns. The old VSi type boots were decent boots, the helium range just look like snow boots with those ridiculous eyelets on them. I can't remeber Mission having the same boot two years in a row.

Stick to Bauer Supremes, CCM or Graf boots..... not really changed much in construction for the last decade but have added nice new touches i.e. lack lock on CCM type boots and use of new materials.

Hey Stampede,

I feel what you're sayin'. I know with Mission it's like what new gimmick are they coming out with this year, i.e. the Vibe chassis. I hate it when I finally find a boot I like they go and change it on me. I only stick with CCM's for the most part because that's what fits my foot the best. My thinking is why reinvent the wheel? I have no problems with improving it.
