NHL on OLN...

lol

don't tell me guys no one have seen Crosby's ***assist***?

I just saw the replay for the second time on ESPNews. It's one of those "harmless" add on assists you see all the time for star players.

Also known as the "Gretzky rule".

I never saw it with him firsthand, but I have with others. Some official scorers will look for a reason to give a guy an assist others look for reasons to take them away.

Very true but yesterday the pens were in Pittsburgh so the official scorers had good reason to give an assist to Crosby, but I think it's not fair, I hope this will not happen too often.

Dunno if this has been commented on, but I'm watching the replay of the Rangers/Panthers game and they have the score ticker on the BOTTOM of the screen...annoying!

Yeah, it's distracting like that but I do like the fact they replay games back-to-back rather than times like 2am ala ESPN.

A little blurb in yesterday's Boston Globe about the NHL on OLN: Boston Globe Sports Media article

''For the regular season, we're about where we thought we'd be, and as far as where we are in the playoffs to date, we're at an average of a 0.3 rating, but our household impressions are up 95 percent, and men, 18-34, are up 357 percent," Phillips said. ''So all of these are fantastic numbers for us."

The article went on to say that OLN will change its name to Versus and also have exclusive broadcast rights on Monday nights. Last, the NHL would like to create an NHL network in the US to complement its existing network in Canada.

Isn't . 3 really, really, bad?

For a major network, yes. For a small time cable channel with limited distribution, no.

i like the idea of them possibly developing an nhl network for the US

That was part of the OLN deal they signed before the season

OLN should learn to stop screwing up hockey. Sometimes it's so bad that if I can't watch CBC, I'll just go do something else. And it's not like me to turn up a chance to watch hockey.

Curious, how exactly is OLN Screwing up the game? Sure the announcers aren't the greatest, but overall I don't think the coverage is that bad.

Half the time I don't pay attention to the announcers. During intermissions I usually switch to another channel. The coverage is sweet though, 2 games a night, how can you complain about that. Anyway, 24 was on last night so that takes precedence to hockey.

I'm more annoyed that the game feed is flickering and sticking and doing all kinds of wierd crap that makes watching it nearly impossible. They need to keep the homer announcers away from their teams in the playoffs too. Too bad they can't get JD and Doc for all the games.

Is anyone else annoyed at the goal horn sound effect that OLN produces every time a visiting team scores?

Yeah, that is a little stupid. I guess they figure viewers need more emphasis if the visiting team scores. They might as well add the Gary Glitter song after the horn too.

Yeah, that'd be nice, add a Jock Jams feel to the broadcast...

I've said it elsewhere but

1. The commentators suck. I don't mind biased commentators (the CBC ones always are) but please don't be stupid and biased.

2. The play by play has more "uhs" that meaningful information. Which, if I'm watching a team that I don't normally follow (which is what usually happens with OLN :( ) then I'd like them to be quick about names etc.

3. The away team should not get a horn. That is stupid.

4. The "intermission report" or whatever they call it is retarded. They talk about nothing and don't even touch the important stuff. I need to get on the internet just to figure out what's happening in hockeyland during the intermission. Oh and they try to sound like Don Cherry: "Oh hey kids... watch this clip! That's a guy... playing hockey!" LAME

5. No Don Cherry :( Basically if I'm not going to get Coach's corner on TV, I'll go go workout or shoot a puck against a wall.

OLN is not worth my time really. I'll only watch it for a really really important game maybe. Like game 7 of finals?

Those are some valid points, but I watch the games to watch the games themselves. If the announcers suck I just tune them out. With the quality of play that has been displayed this playoff season I would hate to not watch a game because the visiting team gets a horn (which is dumb) or the announcers say "uh" too much.

What do most baseball or basketball games on average get on ESPN?

The announcers are bad but, that is pretty much anywhere in the states. I have been impressed that they are using the CBC video feed. CBC is still the best at following the game. I usually hit the mute button and fire up the XM.

Now if only they could broadcast in HD. The NBC HD feeds are amazing on the weekends.

I would think your XM would not be in sync with the video feed from OLN.

It's usually pretty off, at least in my experience. When I listen to Sirius and watch simultaneously, the radio is maybe 15-20 seconds behind.
