TPS HGT

Recommended Posts

I'm looking at ordering a pair of TPS HGT's and I was wondering if there is anything I should have ordered on them? A certain type of palm, etc. Any comments would be great. Thanks.

I'm sure I'll take some heat for this opinion, but here goes: Personally, HGT's are by far my favorite glove, but I would never get a nylon TPS glove again due the the lack of durability. I have had 2 pairs of portofino shell HGT's in the last 3 years (the THG version with no plastic inserts, the '05 HGT) and loved them both. I had a pair of '04 cable knit HGT's that I returned after 1 game due to multiple cuts on the backroll and fingers (they were, however very comfortable, light and flexible).

Yes, Nylon does not hold up well. Its great if you play on a team that has equipment provided...nice and light.

I still like real cowhide leather for durability.

I have a pair of Lousivilles that were the pre-cursor to the TPS HGT in all leather. I take good care of them with Lexol and new palms, I take them to the bootmaker for stiches/repairs, and they still look and play great. The are practically part of my hand now.

IMO, nothing beats a pair of pro-quality all leather gloves if you need to keep them for awhile and you want a pair that's worth re-palming instead of just getting new mitts. They are expensive, but if you take care of them, they last and perform. They quickly become one of your favorite and most trusted pieces of equipment.

I've had my nylon HGTs for almost a year, other than some discoloration in the white cuff they're perfect.

I have cable knit and digital palms on my TPSs and both have held up extremely well. Only marks or scuffs that show up on mine are from sticks.

I own a pair of Response+ with CableKnit for 1.5 years and that stuff is tougher than anything I've ever seen on gloves.

Mik, the cable knit has been durable? How many games do you play a year? Thanks.

I rotate them with a pair of eagles, but they've seen a lot of time. Very very slight wear shown in the left palm and some discoloration on the cuff. otherwise, look just like the day I got them.

I have a pair of HGTs that have cable knit/nylon except for the backroll on the cuff and thumb. After a year the nylon looks great, but the portofino is scraped and cut in a couple of spots. Going all nylon next time. Love the digitech palm as well.
