For those who play NCAA?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

For those who play in the NCAA or know about it : can you go on the ice when you want, example : if you play for Middlebury : can you go on the team ice whenever you want. Maybe iglod will know it.

Any ideas?

Odd that someone with so many posts and noble image would not know the answer to such a question.

Why do you ask?

I got a couple buddies who play there and as far as I know, no.

Edit: Speaking of Middlebury specifically. However, most places don't allow it. There are often intramural leagues on the campus rinks which dont take a backseat to a couple of the players on the big team.

Middlebury has shown a good amount of interest in me, and my SATs and GPA arn't anything to be proud of...

If they want you for hockey, then they'll get you in.

Nice, Kovy, maybe we'll get to be teammates in the future, eh?

Kovy it definitely depends on what college you go to and their rinks. My daughter is a HS senior and is hoping for a d-1 hockey scholarship. She's visited several colleges and universities in the last few months. At some they allow the players to use the ice just about anytime, but for most they don't have exclusive use of the ice. For instance, at Ohio State the men's team plays home games at the Schottenstein Arena, which is a multi-use for basketball, hockey, concerts and the like. OSU also has the OSU Rink where the men's and women's teams practice but also is used for public skating and intramural hockey.

Like someone else said, the men's and women's players at most of the schools (at least the ones we've visited) can often use the ice when no other group has it scheduled. When we were visiting Colgate University in August, some players on the women's team were there because they were preparing for the Canadian women's Olympic camp, and they pretty much had the ice to themselves.

Got to love a rink where you have to walk up a flight of stairs from the locker room to the ice (osu's practice rink). Most places have to rent the rink's for money, so you will not have any time you want on the rink.

It all depends on where you go.

There were stories about when Zach Parise was at North Dakota that he used to go to the rink between classes and just skate around and work on little stuff all the time.

At Clarkson, I'm sure guys could get on the ice when they wanted IF it wasn't being used for something else. The nice thing about going to Clarkson is that students could rent the ice for dirt cheap. Although, I graduated almost 10 years ago, but back then I think it was something like $65/hr for ice at Cheel Arena which was really new.

They also had intramural hockey and broomball at nights as well.

I'm older than Jim Bob, the old Clarkson rink (Walker?) was $35/hr...saw some great battles up there while visiting friends who went there and SUNY...
