tapered grip shafts

Recommended Posts

A friend of mine is looking to get into tapered stuff. I suggested to used the R2 or XN10 but he said he will need the shaft to be a grip one preferably a grip like the one on the old golden Synergy grip. Really tacky. Is there anything like that available?

The gold synergy was a lot more mild than most of the new grips. Tell him to check out the Bauer XV.

Hmn...not sure. I have never used the old golden ones. He said he liked that kind of grip better than on the yellow synergy. So in Inno it´s the soft grip? BTW: Chadd is the Grip on the Vapor XV the same as on the XXX OPS?

I saw some XVs that had a mild grip on them, I don't know if it is the same as the XXX. I don't use either stick, nor do I sell them.

i find that the RBK pro-feel grip on the 6K shaft is mild, but not too mild where as you cant feel the grip. though i never had the chance to use it on the ice i was holding it in the store.

On a similar note:

Which shaft would feel better with a wood blade in it ( for those who have used both, but all opinions are welcome) An L-2 or A 6K shaft?

A lot of the kids who got L2s with their skates via the Mission promo now have Christian or R2 wood blades in them and like it much more than the comp blades.

You should be able to find our TF10 over in Europe pretty easily. It's tapered and definitely grippy.

If the grip is like the TF1, it's probably not going to be what he's looking for.

Why do you say that? I find the TF1 really sticky, particularly when I use the '05 PG1's.

Is he talking about a different textured grip?

The TF grip is very similar to the grip Easton used on the yellow synergys, maybe even more tacky. The old grip they used, like on the gold synergy he likes, is much more mild.

Thanks, because i like the feel of a wood blade in my shafts that i have right now( SW taperflex and TPS Genesis) And i want to be able to keep that feel while still having a pretty good balance, Chadd or anyone, could you tell me the difference between the R2 wood blade and the bauer 7500 if there is any besides the blade wrap.

ive found the R2 woodies get soft really fast. if you can find pro stock tapered R2 blades id go with those because theyve last me longer then any R2 blade.

i had a L-2 with a wood blade cot to fit tapered(and cut the hosel too) it was not so bad...i would say great balance...but still pretty heavy(well compared to my R2XN10 and SYns blade)

it really comes down to if you want grip or not...IMO the 6k has great feel, but that may be more because i like the feel of a slightly heavier shaft, which the 6k is. my l2 is 85 which is very whippy for me, but it is also an excellent shaft, i just grew out of the 85 flex's for the most part.

ive had alot of problems with wood tapered blades. they all go soft on me really quick. the hybrid easton cracked really quick, the r2 kevlar wrap didnt help and the blade was really soft after a week or so, and the 7500 was good but the bottom wore out pretty quick. i shoudl invest in a nice tapered drury blade thats composite.

Do you remove the tape after every game or practice? It makes a big difference.

Since your tape is full of water and if its left on the water in the tape finds cracks in the outside meterial seeking into the wood making the blade die quicker

Chadd, Does taking the tape off each time make the blade last longer or the other way around?

Yes, it does help the blade last longer for the reason shagel posted.

Another difference to consider is the shaft shape of the two sticks. The 6K is much boxier and thicker than the L-2.

yeah i always take the tape off chadd. especially with wood blades i try to get the tape off right when i get home and let the blade dry, even if the tape is good shape. for composite blades i tend to be a bit lazier and use the tape from a game for a practice, but still no more than 2 icetimes with 1 tape job for me.

i just had problems with the hybrid synth and the 7500 cracked and chipping, and the r2 went soft really quick
