Good Sunglasses

Recommended Posts

I need some good sunglasses for tennis. Mostly to block out the sun, but I want them to look good as well. Does anyone know of any sunglasses that block out the sun really well that wouldn't make me look like an idiot? I don't want to spend any more than $50.

EDIT - By "to block out the sun..." I mean reduce glare.

For a GOOD pair of sunglases you may have to pay a bit more then that. Mine are some Spy M2 chrome and bought them for 100$ CDN and they cover my eyes well and are good against sun ray's. For 50$ you could get a good pair but would probably be accompanied by some crappy lenses.

Make sure that the ones you get are 100% Polarized. That is the most important part if buying sunglasses, that and UV protection. Just so you know Oakleys and Ray Bans aren't Polarized, and are way over priced.

Oakley offers a polarized version of most of their models. And UV protection is more important that polarization. To my knowledge, all polarization does is prevent glare.

I also seid UV is important, you don't want to neglect it, that for sure. As for polarization on Oakley's they just don't cut it compared to some sunglasses. I tried on a pair at my local fishing store, because I fish alot and wanted a good pair of polarized ones to take the glare off of the water. I don't know the brand name of the top of my head, but they had a test there to see if you glasses were polarized, and these things took EVERY bit of glare of during the test. My dad's Oakley's (yes, the polarized version) didn't do as well. All I am saying is make sure they are polarized well and that the UV protection is as high as possible.

But he said they're for tennis. There's not a whole lot of glare involved. I'd look for something that's doesn't move around a lot and reacts to sweat really well. When I played beach volleyball it was tough to find a good pair. Unfortunately, I rarely spent less than $100, so I can't really help.

As has been said, polarized lenses are unimportant unless you have to deal with glare. I also think its a tough task to find any pair of sunglasses without UV A/B protection, and I dont think there are any differences between different makes. If it has the sticker UV A/B protected, its fine. How about a pair of foakleys (fake oakleys). I use a pair for when i go kayaking ever since the time i left my eyejackets on the bottom of a river. A good pair of foakleys are indiscernable from the real thing in my opinion.

The reason I need them is because of the glare mostly. The only bad part is when I'm serving the sun glares so much and I completely lose where the ball is and can't serve. So mostly I want them to stop glare.

Coming from playing beach volleyball, there's no pair of sunglasses that will help you that much with looking directly at the sun. Sure, some are better than others, but it was tough to find a pair like that. I always used killer loops because of their vision quality and comfort while jumping and sweating.

I guess it's not usually directly, just out of the corner of my right eye. That makes a huge glare.

I'd suggest Boles my dad wears them for skiing and has had them since he went out to Cali probably around 10 years ago they are great glasses. I've used them and the glare is almost non-existent.

i know your asking doe some suggestions but im going to give you a heads up on what not to buy. i have a pair of nike airleon. They are great everyday glasses, nice design, polarized so i can actually look at the sun for a couple of seconds without flinching or irritation but the way the lenses are cut lets in some sin at the corners. I have the square cut ones. so i would just watch out for those. if you can find the round cut ones maybe try them out and see.

B) I need a pair of good sunglasses for baseball, and a kid on my team says that there's a pair of Oakleys that block out the sun, but still give clear vision. I'm wondering if anyone knew what he's talking about.

Edit: By the way, I checked the Oakley website and couldn't figure it out. And for bringing up an old topic, I searched B)

If you want them solely for baseball, depending on how much you want to spend, the Gargoyle F8s are great. If price doesn't matter the Oakley X-Metal Juliets are good.

Ive never tried them on, but i know a lot of baseball players use the m-frame. they look like they give good coverage but look hideous to me. The plastic eye jackets I used to have before they fell in the river didnt let in any sun in around the frames but I think you might want something a bit further away from your face. On my face, my juliets dont offer as much periheral coverage from the sun, but it seems to work for ichiro.

yeah i used to use M-frames. but for wearing outside of baseball... i didnt like them so much. most people dont. but for baseball they are really good shades.

I don't see how you couldn't get enough coverage unless you had fish eyes.

peoples faces have different bone structure. unfortunately i wasnt blessed with neanderthal brows.

im pretty sure m-frames come in magnesium and plastic. i imagine they would look great wearing them out on the town if you also had the matching mullet, loose-fitting tank top, and iroc.
