LegoDoom 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2005 NOOOOO. You would not buy this car to track it, it is a status car, not a track car. Sure it has and will put up some amazing numbers, but by all means, you buy it to say, hey, look at me, im cool. If you wanted a track car you could spend about half the money have much better results. Better results than what? This car won LeMans. You have to be joking. Vapor 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2005 ahhh, yes. I know for a face that the Bentley EXP Speed 8 (2003 winner) can demolish it, but thats not fair, it is 5 years later, and they spent around the same amount on the car. But the C5R (corvette), who beat Porsche in 2003 (the gt3 rs) would defeat the Gt1, and has beat the GT3 (a better car in my humble opinion), and they spent nowhere near what porsche spent. The GT1 put up better numbers on the same track. And aren't the C5R and GT3 are in different classes?
delpiero81 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2005 Because you have to modify the 959 for federalization, it outperforms the F40. The result of the $85k in modifications (which is why US 959's cost more money than ROW ones) is 0-60 in 3.3s, 0-100 in 11.4s and a top speed of 215. A US 959 will give a McLaren F1 GTR a run for it's money, and will drive much better. As far as weight, you can't cut much off of the 4WD suspension (not that you'd want to).I think both are wonderful cars...F40 it's more a race car, 959 it's more an "everyday" car (0-60 3.3s? Everyday car? ).Just to think about firts version of F40 had plexiglass windows and a cable to open doors.Yes a cable to open doors.I've got an old review of this car 959 vs F40 vs McLaren F1, while the 959 was way more "userfriendly" the F40 put way better times on the track but has been described as way more difficult to drive.Mc Laren F1 was in a totally different planet, and it's funny how the enginner (Gordon Murray) says that both this cars inspired him when projecting the F1:the truly racing attitude and performance of the F40 while an easy and safe to drive sports car like the 959.And about the Bugatti, there is a good video of it in nurburgring on fastdrive.orgwhere you can clearly see the monstrous accelleration of it and the not so good agility and handling. Still a monstrous and superfast car anyway...
LegoDoom 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2005 The F40 and McLaren are both basically race cars though, something that the 959 definitely is not. If you consider that the 959 can perform as well or better than the other two you mentioned while being 500lbs heavier is a testimate to what the car can do. And those two cars were manufactured much later than the 959.

LegoDoom 0 Report post Posted November 30, 2005 Can you read the classes? the C5R is in the GTS class while the GT3 is in the GT class. Those are overall results.

asdfa 0 Report post Posted November 30, 2005 the veyron is a dumb car. if a car needs to change "modes" to get to top speed, it's not really the same car. it's an aerodynamic brick, has the fuel economy of the QE2. the only good part of the veyron is that it's built almost in the same spirit as the 959, bu it's far too fat and pretentious a car.to reduce weight, the f40 paint is so thin that you can see the carbon fibre weave underneath, i think easton should apply the same technique:rolleyes: I know for a face that the Bentley EXP Speed 8 (2003 winner) can demolish it, but thats not fair, it is 5 years later, and they spent around the same amount on the car. But the C5R (corvette), who beat Porsche in 2003 (the gt3 rs) would defeat the Gt1, and has beat the GT3 (a better car in my humble opinion), and they spent nowhere near what porsche spent.Bentley is owned by VW group, which owns Audi, which won the LMP900 class for 3 years prior (or 2 years?). the bentley is a modified an Audi LMP8 with a closed cockpit and different paint. VW definately spent far mor money on the Bentley when development costs for the Audi effort are factored in. The C5R's would not beat the GT1, don't be ridiculous. C5Rs race against S7s and 550s, not GT3s, which essentially have their own class (except for 360s).

SR27 0 Report post Posted November 30, 2005 Have you guys take longevity into consideration? I got a 26 year old 924 Turbo sitting in my garage. It has about 200.000 miles on it´s back and the only thing I had to do besides minor chassis repair and getting new seast is to replace the Turbo charger. (whch was really cheap) Today I can still go about 230 km/H with it. As a sidenote, me and my dad are playing with the idea of putting a more powerful 944 engine into the 924 chassis, which is quite a bit lighter than that of the 944. That should be fun. Anyway, what I´m saying is that Porsche is known to build cars that last decades even when used as "everyday" cars. I can´t judge the 959, though as I have not as much insight as some of you seem to have. Anyway, I knew a guy back in school who´s father had an early 90´s Ferrari 355 and he had used the car on an every other day basis for about 3 years before the engine started to cause troubles. He had to get it fixed a number of times but in the end the whole engine had to be replaced. I´m pretty sure you can buy a nice car for the price of a Ferrari engine. That is just an example out of my personal experience of course but I think I heard similar stories quite often.
Dan_The_Man_16 0 Report post Posted December 1, 2005 I was thinking of buying an 87 National for my second car. How do you like em? I LOVE my Grand National. If you get it, strip the A/C out of the vehicle and become prepared to laugh at little tuner Civcs as you destroy them with raw horse power. Such a mean car, I just can't get enough of it. I would be weary bying a 15-20 year old turbo car though. The AC is run off the accessory belt from the engine. By removing this component, less strain is placed on the engine (its true power potential is reached). You gain about 30hp for free..

Vapor 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2005 I really cant even see you gaining 10 hp. But is it worth it? Without a doubt not. Why would anybody sacrifice being nice and cool in during those long summer nights, to gain 10 hp? Throw a maggie in there, nothing like a supercharged, turbocharged 6 banger beast.
