Hey i know they just did a piece like this on NHL tonite but what do you guys think, is he hall of fame worthy, did he play long enough? also do you think he will ever play in the NHL again?

On second thought, if he puts up amazing numbers in Sweden, then he might be considered. Look at someone like Larionov who didn't even play in the NHL during his prime, but yet he still deserves to be in the HHOF.

Right now, I say no only because he needs a couple more solid years (let's say by an average of 65 gms and 82 pts over his 9 seasons played)..

But you never know with the HOF if Clarke Gillies got selected while Rogie Vachon who's 14th on the all time career wins (355) is still just an outside observer ?

If Foppa does leave for Sweden and win's the Swedish championship, who's to say he won't be back.. Robert Reichel came back from the Czech Republic (although his situation was different) but anything can happen.

# 21 should be in the rafters with # 33 and # 19 in the future..

BTW, did anyone see the look on Ferraro's face when Melrose commented on why Foppa should not be in.. that was classic..

No, didn't play long enough in the NHL. One hell of a player, but like Lindros, I think injuries hurt him.

i personally don't think you can even compare Lindros to Forsberg, i mean Peter came back after his injury and won the Scoring title and stuff, no to mention Peter is a much better player than Lindros, just look at the numbers, not to mention, who would you rather have on your team? they are both roughly the same age, but who is/was more dominant? So if Peter played lets say one more season and had a good 90 point season than is in the HHOF ?

also, Peter has 2 cups , maybe one he didn't play the whole time but the first he was one of the reasons they won it, he also has some olympic gold(i think lidros has one too but he didn't really have anything to do with it) we all remember Peter's clutch shootout goal.... but thats if international success counts towards the hall...

can someone give me a lesson in history of larionov?

did he just not get picked or something?

I'm not an expert on his career status because he was around long before I was, but it was very difficult to depart from Russia when he would've been in his prime. I know he came to North America and played extremely well and just built on his Eauropean career.

LOL

Ya I think he will get in, not as soon as most people though. I don't necessarly think he should as he is leaving the league before he really should, but hey, he's a grate player.

About Larionov, the short of it: He was one of the first group of players that went from the military (read: Red Army) communist world team to a NHL career. Communism was very much in full effect when he made the move to North America. For those of you that aren't old enough to remember, it was VERY difficult for a russian citizen to even step foot on US soil because of all of the restrictions and tensions between the countries.

a neat article about Larionov:

Melrose said with a firm "NO, he will not make it.." then starts with the lack of games played etc.. Ferraro just looked at Melrose with this "are you kidding me look" which lasted for a good 10 seconds as Melrose continued. It was that pure stunned look on Ferraro's face that was truly comical.

Also, when the crew talked bout the Leafs/Flyers series, Buggi (can't spell his name) told all the hockey critics bashing the game (those who don't know the difference between a cross-check to a cross dresser) to simply "SHUT UP".. simply classic..

Eazy B's got it. He played for the Soviet team during the prime of his career, so his numbers in the NHL don't accurately reflect his ability. He centered the famous KLM line for the Soviets, and won a two gold medals I think, plus three Stanley Cups.

My Swedish friend told me theres some reason behind "Foppa", I'll ask him what it is.

yea it's just a nickname in swedish , not sure what it means either , i think it's just short for Forsberg somehow...

heres another little article

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?ID=82837

"The Swedish forward has put his downtown penthouse up for sale and there has been strong speculation this season that Forsberg will return to Sweden to play for Modo, which will be coached by his father next year."

i think that pretty much answers the questin of him leaving or not...

Larionov's story is great. I've never seen Igor like that but now, I respect him at the highest level.
