First fight

Recommended Posts

Basically, I think we can learn something from what other people have had over experience. Fighting might be a good thing.

I haven't been in a fight yet but I will post back when I do.

Bombs away!

I got in a little bit of a scrap this year. Somebody came down on me and i hit him into the boards and then in the same shift they scored a scrappy goal and one of there players was skating infront of our net after they scored and we collided, sending him onto the ground hurting him and then the guy I hit came over crosschecked me said "wanna fight?" and I was like.."sure" he got in one good punch all the other ones were thrown by me.

I remember it fondly and can have a laugh about it now. The first real fight I had was in my first year of juniors. Of course there had been some facemask slapfests in bantams and midgets when everyone thinks they're tough, but the end of my junior year I got called on just before the final roster for the playoffs. Well first game I dress for is the last of the regular season and we're playing the last place team (ie no playoffs). We're up big and a liner breaks out. I grab my guy just to hold on and wait for the tough guys to finish up and figure out partway through the guy I'm matched up with has veins popping out of his neck and about 4 teeth. He goes "You think that peewee goal you scored is gonna keep you here so you're gonna hide behind that cute birdcage? You aren't out this late cause the coach wants you to score the game winner" Well me being dumb, 16, and called out, lose the bucket and drop em. I swear I was the only one in the building who didn't see the first left coming and he got me good with two of them. In a weird twist of luck, the first one caught me so good and off balance that the second one glanced off and put him crossed up in front of me. I'm hanging on to his jersey for dear life and figure I'm screwed and throw a homerun, catch him square on the jaw and one punch him. I got 6 stitches on my right eyebrow shortly after, but I thought I was a stud. Next week one of the vets comes over after practice and tells me I got lucky as hell against a 200 PIM guy so guys are gonna be looking for me. He gave me some pointers for the next week just to keep me alive.

Word of advice though, don't do it unless you've spent a little time figuring it out. "Nobody ever gets hurt in a hockey fight" is not true at all. I've seen a lot of kids play tough guy in their first junior game and get worked over by a vet who isn't even a fighter because they simply don't know what they're doing. Coaches hate to see guys go looking for a fight and not know how too. You learn to hold your own, but it's a rough road getting there.

I've been in one...in house league brawl at the Wachovia Spectrum.

End of the game. Our team is doing the handshake, when one of their kids slashes one of our's in the shin. Next thing you know, a brawl broke out. I grabbed the first kid I saw (who also happened to be coming towards me) and threw him against the boards, got in about 5 or 6 good punches on the kid before he fell and I skated off the ice. Won the fight, lost the game.

My first and only fight was a year ago in the lowest level, recreational intramural league in college. My team had a lot of beginners, so we thought we better play in the lowest league. The team we were playing consisted of about 8 girls and 5 guys. The guys were all showboats who thought they'd dominate anyone despite having their girlfriends on the team. They weren't even any good, just tried to be flashy. Anyways, my team dominated them, and the guys got pissed. The game got really chippy in the 3rd period. They guy I ended up fighting tried to throw a monster hit on me and missed, so I had a few words for him. I threw a big hit into him when I was playing D and he slashed me in the back of the knee later.

So, as I'm skating to the bench at the end of a shift with about 45 seconds left in the game, I get crosschecked in the back of the helmet twice. The second literally breaks my helmet off. I turn around to see my attacker and my immediate response is to rip his helmet off (everyone has to have a cage, and what kind of a fight would it be if one guy has a cage and the other didn't). I get the helmet off without a problem by pulling it over the top of his head, but I also pulled both of us to the ground with him on top of me in the process. While down on the ice, I got one nice punch in right before the linesmen got in to separate. It was enough because the kid just knelt on the ice after the linesmen pulled me away.

Needless to say, nobody expected anything like this to happen. The league manager said there had never been a fight in C-league intramural hockey at MSU. The kid who attacked me was suspended from intramural hockey forever, and I was originally suspended for the rest of the season but talked it down to 1 game B)

I Played one year of Midgets, fought about a half dozen times, went to Jr B the next year. I got my ass kicked there the first few times I tried to fight people, and honestly was a little intimidated being 16 and lining up against 20 year olds that were much bigger and stronger. once you win a few though the confidance comes, and you will win more than you loose. Had about 15 fights that year, Id say won 10 of them, so I asked for a trade the next year to a better league, started there scored a few, fought a lot, then moved up to Jr. A where they brought me in to be a defenseman that fights. Well, I never played D in my life first of all, and the team was terrible so they made me fight all the time, and i got tossed most of the time, but stayed in there.

In college I manage to get at least one or two Dq's a year for fighting, best two were: 1) Freshman year, last game of the year, dont get to play much so might as well get on the scoresheet somehow. Try to go with someone, linesman grabs me to break it up, and the guy pops me while I am being held, so i slip out of the jersey and shoulders toss the elbows off and go with the guy for 2 or 3 Minutes. 2) Last week a liner happened and some guy at lewast 100 pounds bigger than me tossed me and got me down where he proceeded to beat the shit out of me by just feading uppercuts into the top of my head. It took 4 staples to close me, but didnt hurt one bit. The tip is if your loosing the fight, drop your head and make him have to hit you in the top of the head. It doesnt hurt at all, and the only thing you might have happen is a few stiches or a bump. Lot better than a broken nose or some new teeth, trust me.

lol im still only a bantam so they are all stupid cage fights that really mean nothing lol. The first fight i got in i won with one hit. 3 kids from both teams were on the ice fighting and one kid started going for this small kid on my team who was suprisingly beating the hell outta a kid close to twice his size and i came head on at the kid and hooked him and he just went down to the ice and got up crying lol it was actually pretty funny. the ref ended up calling the game early.

Most hockey around is automatic suspension for even dropping your gloves. It's quite a deterrant. I'm not sure at what level fighting becomes acceptable, but certainly not in the HS, travel, and Junior C and B levels that I've been exposed to.

I tend to save my fighting for bars :)

I had a few "little kid" fights where the helmets were on and such and did well by those standards. My first "real" fight was decent, exchanged a few shots, none landed either way, wrestled him down when I was tired. I came out with a scratch across my right eye, but I don't think it was from a shot. It was almost like a rug burn, so I figure it was from a sock or ref's jersey when I wrestled him down.

I've gotten into fights in roller hockey. It's more of a recreational league than it is a competitive travel one. I always assume fighting at just about all ice levels was strictly looked down upon, until you get to Junior A or one of the other ones in Canade like QMJHL or something like that.

But yeah, I've gotten those "rug burns" too EZ. It's the glove. It burns you. I'd almost rather take a bare knuckle. You get sore, some swelling, a bruise. But with the glove burns, they're just annoying. And they take longer to heal IMHO.

He never had his gloves on though, which is why I am not sure how it happened. Maybe he grazed me? I just know I didn't catch any, but didn't land any. I'm not a good fighter either way.

Strange! Maybe he had his knuckles taped lol. That's why they do it. Protect their knuckles and to impart more damage on your face.

I'm sure he wasn't taped. But that is strange. I almost always get burned by gloves.

My first scrap is fondly remembered. The two of us, lightweights, throwing punches aimlessly until the linesmen stepped in and sent us to cool down in the box.

I since learned to shorten up the punch and keep my balance more. The big roundhouse punches are desperation moves. I think I've been in less than 10 scraps - not counting holding on to a guy watching two others go toe-to-toe.

Any more story's?

First real fight tonight. Still a midget but play alot with junior kids. This one kid was hunting me down all night and shooting in my direction, throwing boes and alot of slashing. So i got him in the corner and started pushing him. i took my helmet off to be respectful and droped the gloves he drops his gloves but helmet and cage stays on. so i had to rip it off while im getting beat i finally got the helmet off, then landed my first punch( felt amazing hah) . From then on i started to land more punches and then he wrestled me down and all of the kids broke it up but he pinched my nose? any one have this done to them? i mean that was the worst part. then i got my hand in his face and everything was over.

anyone know how to get rid of bruises?

Not a hockey fight, but it was my first and its probably funnier than a hockey fight.

I was a drunk 16 year old that somehow got into the bar, so being the greaser that I am I hit up the dance floor and started grinding some slut I knew from school. After respectively making out with her and doing the ol' hand up the back of the skirt trick I got bored of it and went outside for a breather. Turns out she was with some guy there. The guy comes out and starts beakin' me down so all my older buddies tell him to cool it. Couple mins later the guy comes back outside and takes a swing at me, hits me on the side of the head. I grab him, toss him against a fence and start feedin him. The cops come and tell me to let him go and they tell us to go home or else were going with them so I tell them I live at a house across the street where a highschool party is going down and walk over there to cheers from all my buddies.

Next fight I got into turned my nose into the Yzerman curve.

In midget tryouts this year I hit a vet and I got him pretty good. Knocked him over and such so he was pretty upset. So then he challenged me and I agreed. So in one of the last shifts of the tryout "scrimmage" that was going on, there was a faceoff and me and him were out. So we made contact and as soon as the puck was dropped we took of our buckets and made our way to each other. Just before we met the coach stood up in the stands and screamed his ass off at us. He told us to get off the ice and when the session was done he called eveyone into a room and had a chat with us. This would of been my first fight. The guy has been in few fights before but for some reason he was afraid of me. I was nervous as balls even though all the parents watching said I looked real calm and like I've done it a million times. So in the end I guess it worked out best for me, it showed I wasn't a pussy and I also didn't get my ass kicked. Haha.
