Allsmokenopancake 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2005 a couple of my mates were talking about eating a battered mars bar and i've just remembered it so i thought i'd make a topic about it and see if anyone has either hear of doing that or even tried it. I am not sure where your mates are from, but battered mars bars are popular back at home (Ireland).Heres where I will confuse you perhaps. A mars bar at home, is the exact same bar as a milky way is over here (USA).So, if your friends are Irish, English or Scottish, and talking about a battered mars bar, and you want to try it, they are probably talking about a milky way over here.A cup of flour, bit of salt, water, mix in enough water to get a stickyish batter going with the flour, thats all you need (I wouldn't do beer batter, as it adds a bit of a taste, which is nice on sausages/fish savory stuff, not on sweet goods)Coat your mars bar in batter, and deep fry for a few minutes.I am sure the mars bars over here will be fine too, the only problem may be the nougat center, with the milky way (again, this is a mars bar at home) its got the nougat, but also the caramel, so that melts through it, then stiffens a little after its taken off the heat.Haven't had one in years, used to get them after a nights drinking in the fish and chip shops in glasgow when I would go over to my brother for the weekend

#96 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2005 I saw a travel show on Scotland one time and they had them on the show. They looked pretty damn good. I love Milky Ways, and have had the Mars version as my cleaning lady is from Manchester and brings English stuff over here for her and her Irish husband. Petey21 1 Report post Posted December 13, 2005 The other day I saw some program on TV about Scotland and they went to some place and ordered deep fried Mars bars with ketchup, and I was like WTF? :P But it might be good though, I'm not judging it until I've actually tried it, it just looked bizarre to me. technophile 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2005 has anyone had deep fried twinkies? what are 'twinkies? we don't have them over her in England. Yellow sponge cake with marshmallow creme in the center. There's an Irish pub here in Austin (Mother Egan's) that serves deep-fried candy bars with ice cream. (They're not on the menu as far as I know, you have to ask for them.) They're pretty delicious. :)I've had fried pickles too, and those are better than I thought they'd be. The best of all fried pub food, though, is the fried chips and rarebit at Dressel's Welsh Pub in St. Louis.
