What's up with the Blues?

Recommended Posts

I just went over to NHL.com and found out that they're much worse than even my hometown Blackhawks. If you had the misfortune of watching the hawks play, you'd know that's bad.

Why are they sucking this year anyways? Nothing going on their 2nd, 3rd, 4th lines? Not even a good first? I never really paid attention to St. Loius, but always thought they were competitive.

Mack you hit the nail on the head. Attendance is terrible and last I heard, they are 30th in the league (at least their attendance matches the standings...). So many young guys and people just aren't going to go see people who they don't know. Hell I live here, they're my home team, and I still haven't sat down and watched 60 minutes of Blues hockey yet.

Saturday after the 5-4 OT loss to the Rangers, Mike Kitchen basically blamed Patrick Lalime on not having good puck awareness on the GW goal (bounced off the glass, hit him in the back, and rolled in the net.) Lalime didn't take kindly to this. In today's newspaper it said that Lalime played his last game in a Blues uniform and as Kosy said, hours later he's gone.

Rams suck, Blues suck, Cardinals are losing half their squad..... I'm adopting a new hometown.

Yeah it all starts from the top. New ownership is priority #1. Once the new owners are in place, I think Larry Pleau and Mark Sauer need to go. Don't go away mad, just go away.

What everyone else said. The fact that the Blues are for sale seems to be messing with everything.

The Blues traded away Pronger because they didn't want to give him a long term deal. Lalime has been bad all season and just doesn't look to have an 'up' side anymore. Brewer, Christian Backman, and Matt Walker (all D-men) are all hurt at this moment. So we traded away Bogunieki for Poapst. That's not going to fix anything long term. Everyone knows Tkachuck has been hurt, but is back now (12 points in the last 4 games).

Basically all the role players are having to fill roles they don't usually have to. Like third type types as the second line and AHL types as their fourth line.

I think people here in St. Louis are waiting for the team to be sold to someone who will make some big long-term deals. The fans have definitely given up on this year. A lot of people are also worried the new ower will move the team, but some deal with the City of St. Louis means they can't move for something like 5 years (iirc).

The Blues are actually exceeding my expectations. I was certain before the season they'd be the front runners in the Kessel sweepstakes and so far there right on track.

This would be the first time in like 25 years(?) that they wouldn't make the playoffs. I'm might be wrong on that number but I think they hold that record.

Yes, which is part of the problem. Ownership has been so afraid to mess up the record that they've been making "safe" deals rather than actually trying to build the franchise towards actual Stanley Cup contention (which would entail some risks).

Rough. I didn't know they were going through an ownership change right now. I guess they haven't got much effective firepower either. It's true though, the Blues have always been playing playoff hockey, but not this year. Kind of tragic, as St. Louis is a pretty decent hockey town. I couldn't see them moving hockey out of St. Louis anyways.

I thought the Checketts group pulled out of buying the team?

Checketts is back in with a local buyer on his side. Also, Andy Appleby, the founder of General Sports and Entertainment has placed a bid on the table.

Bill Laurie has told people that he wants a deal done by the end of the calendar year, preferably by Christmas.

I don't think I could name 5 Blues other than Brewer, Tkachunk, Weight, Sillinger and Drake.

maybe not much longer for weight. on cbc sat nite they said there is a rumor that the sen are going to trade havlat for weight.

Good win for the Blues. They needed one and it coming right after waiving Lalime adds a bit of confidence. One game at a time. One game at a time.

At least Gamache is finally getting the ice time he deserves, especially PP time. even if it is for the Blues

I've really enjoyed watching that kid. Great play just a minute ago to set up McAmmond. Check the NHL.com highlights tomorrow, not a super-highlight reel...but still a neat play by Gamache.
