Well...I don't know what the problem is over in Devil-ville, but whatver the Rangers had for the past 8 or 9 years, looks like the Devils caught it. Good luck guys, it only gets worse from here!

And of course, being a Ranger fan, I'll turn this thread towards the Rangers for just a second...

In a previous post, I mentioned that it seems like whenever a player is hurt or in a scoring drought, or the team needs a big win, play the Rangers and you get the big win or your first goal back from injury.

Well last night, Mike and JD are saying that Joe Sakic only needs TWO goals to tie John Bucyk for goals all-time. And wouldn't you beleive it, Joe scores TWO goals, ties Bucyk, and the Avs win. Incredible.

I'm talking about right now, and right now, things aren't going well for the Devs.

They're just pissy cuz they can't trappy wappy anymore. Poor babies.

you can play aggressive counter attacking hockey with a trap...its great for it..but its like playing the brazillian box when playing roller...or a modified Y...if you have a lower skilled team..it will keep the score down..but the game goes to junk...

of course in the NHL I think the lack of a red line/2line pass makes all the difference in the world since you see a team move it from left to right...near center ice..pass back just inside the blue line..then back up the center and stretch the floor.

The Devils suck this year because without Stevens and Niedermayer, Brodeur is just an average goalie. I've said it all along, without a good defense in front of him he sucks. It's easy to have a good goals against when you're facing 15-20 shots a game. They have no one on defense that can step it up. Thankfully Malaknov retired, have no idea why they signed him in the first place. I would have taken Marchment over him. I think the Devils should do what Boston did and shake things up. Maybe a Brodeur and White for Luongo and Bouwmeester? Maybe they should hire Ted Nolan or Barry Melrose.

well I think Brodeur has proven himself to win games when it counts..and in the new NHL..players have free reign to just crash into the net..I think that's a big difference so far...

The trap is alive and well in Minnesota. Lemaire can coach a trap with or without a red line. I have watched his team set it up inside the neutral zone this year every game. It can be done.

Robinson never wanted to be a head coach and it wasn't in his make-up. He's a great instructor and assistant coach but he was always reluctant to be the head man. Lou always had to talk him into it.

When Malakhov was motivated or pissed he was a fantastic defenseman, he just never had the motivation to reach his full potential.

Without the clutch and grab the Devils will go no where. They were the best clutch and grab team for the last 10 years. Lemaire with the trap, I believe he single handedly ruined hockey with his trapping system in Jersey.Trapping makes for boring hockey.

Dallas has been using it very effectively lately too.

Yeah, I've seen some teams run the 1-2-2. Colorado was runnning it last night vs the Rangers, and it just made a mess of the neutral zone for them.

You can still trap. But you just can't do it as well. The trap needed clutching and grabbing and other obstructions in the neutral zone in order to really slow down the opposition. Without that element, the trap just isn't as effective anymore.

They have cups, you guys have...?  I hope Ftorek isn't coming back.

4 is more then 3 GRG

How many years longer have they been around? That has to be the least amount of the original 6 teams, except maybe the 'Hawks. Good argument.

Let's not bring the Hawks into this. They can make any other organization look professional.

I dont care. Dont say the devils have more. They dont. 4 is more then 3. Say they have more in the past 10 years, fine. But we still rock. GRG

Hmm, don't see where I ever said they had more, but okay. If you want to hang your hat on cups won over 60 years ago...all right.

Hey, I'm a Ranger fan and I have nothing against the Devils. They've played great in the last 10 years and deserve all the cups they've won.

At least they bring some sort of notarierty to our state...other than the Sopranos and big hair.

True, but Christ they suck this year. I don't think it has as much to do with the new rules as much as how many people they've lost and Brodeur just being a sieve for most of the year.

If people can take real shots without wearing the NJ defensemen instead of jerseys Marty isn't nearly as good.

Stevens would be useless in the modern day NHL, but they do miss Niedermayer. Ted Nolan is blacklisted forever. He's a great coach though, it's unfortunate, but the old boys club runs shit. And if the Panthers accepted Brodeur and White for Luongo and Bouwmeester, I'd pee myself, b/c that would be the most hilarious thing Rick Dudley or whoever is Florida GM these days ever did.

I said it during the lockout and I'll say it again now;

Jeremy Jacobs and Bill Wirtz need to be removed as NHL owners. As long as they own teams, there will be problems in those cities.

Honestly, that trade would be crazy, but no way in hell (no pun intended) is Colin White a top four D-man. I though Rafalski or Martin would step up the offensive side but I have yet to see it. The Devils need a shake up to their lineup. I would definitely keep Suglubov in there as he's got potential. The way it's goin' now they'll finish above Pittsburgh in the standings.
